Default fireplace hazard

A reminder to anyone who uses a fireplace:

Please do not discard your fireplace embers in a plastic or non metal container. There have been several house fires ( 1 with 5 fatalities in one family) because of carelessness of the homeowners here in Ct. The life you save may be your own or that of a loved one. And make sure your smoke detectors are working.

I wait till mine are completely cool.... usually 1-2 days after I've had the fireplace cranked up. Then I use a metal "giant" bowl and transfer them outside. Usually where I want to garden. If I need to take them out while it's still hot or warm I dampen them after putting them in the bowl transfer them outside and lay the water to them!

It's a very good reminder!

To clean at the end of the season... I use a shop vac!
