OK, originally, this came from the thread "McDonald's Sweet Tea":
Originally Posted by mom2fussbudgets: For those of you who drink a lot of tea, be sure you are getting plenty of iron in your diet. Not too long ago, I went to give blood, and my iron level was too low. I was surprised because I take a supplement, and I eat a lot of spinach. She asked me if I drink a lot of tea, and said that the tannins in tea can negatively affect iron absorption. Just a heads up! My response in kind: Thank you for the heads up! I had NO IDEA. Perhaps that is why I am sooo tired, they have never tested my iron levels. Thanks again! mom2fussbudgets, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I have a nerve disorder called RSD. It makes me very tired and worn out, so I never thought twice about the fact that my draggin a** could have been something else. HOWEVER, when I read the above info from mom, it was like a lightbulb went off. I had an appointment at the Dr.'s a week ago Monday and ASKED my Dr. to test my Iron. She agreed and guess what??? My iron is really low and my cells are very small. Your body needs iron to make hemoglobin which is a substance in red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs to the cells throughout the body. The tea is obviously part of the lack of iron, but then it is also from blood loss too. The Dr. said that the blood loss factor is probably from the horrible periods I have. Which now I have to go to the GYN and see if it is all connected. Basically, all of this story leads to this....THANK GOD for the wonderful people in here that add their two cents! If it wasn't for mom, I may never have been tested for iron and I might have developed a life threatening condition. So many of my symptoms, which I had told the dr. about, are associated with iron deficiency anemia. So you see, if it wasn't for that thread that was started about McDonalds Sweet Tea, I might never have known. The next time you want to start a thread, ask a question, or add a comment, and think it might be silly or no one would be interested, think of this. To one person, it might be all they need to save the day, give them the giggle they needed, let them vent and get something off their chest, or possibly help to find a diagnoisis to a problem. Thanks to vealcalf for starting the thread and to mom for the warning!!! To the World, you are just one person, But To one person, you may be the World! (Don't remember who said it! sorry) |

Can coffee do that? To make me tired?
I always tired. I only drink hot regular tea like maybe once a week. I love vegetables! |

Possibly?? I don't know, but they both have caffeine in them, it is always best to go to the doctor and get a check up, home remedies are not a good idea without first ruling out any underlying problem first.

When I use to give blood they would test my iron beforehand. If it was low they would always ask me if I had coffee that morning. Yes it can.

Wow! I drink tea by the bucketfulls and I had an issue with extreme tiredness a few years ago. Then I started taking Nature Made Multi for Her with Iron and Calcium and it made all the difference in the world. I try to get the huge bottle at BJ's when they have coupons that I combine with a manufacturer's coupon. Still pricey up front, but you get 300. That lasts almost the whole year!!
