Check those 2/$1 and 99 cent "bargain" grab bags of candy, too--old and new stock were mixed on the pegboard yesterday at the hardware, which really gave it away--Sather's 2/$1 bags of Goetze's cream center caramels for example--old style with paper top 2.25 ounces and six candies--new style in all plastic bag 1.75 ounces and five candies

Have any of you noticed too that at Wal-Mart, the bulk packages end up being less of a deal than buying single packages? The other day I bought Viva paper towels. The 8-pack was a little over $9. Single rolls (same size roll as in the 8-pack) were only $1. I've noticed this when buying deodorant for the hubby too. The 2 packs are always more expensive than buying 2 single ones.

I noticed the Edy's round containers have gotten smaller (shorter) in size.

Apples I could of sworn that they used to come in 5 lb. bags now 3 lb. bags and they are really expensive. I don't get that I'm in NY we grow tons of apples here but we pay through the nose for them. I guess it is time to get a couple of apple trees.

Speaking of produce, I noticed at the grocery store the other day that oranges are now only sold pretty much as "each" --no more by the pound --and they were $1 each! That better be a good orange! (That's here around Kansas City, anyway)

I almost always compare single package vs multiple packages and I check cost per ounce/pound on almost everything. There is a lot of difference in "shopping" and "buying". I am a shopper! My SIL thinks I am stingy, I say I am thrifty! When I talk about using coupons she says she never uses coupons and just goes to the store and buys what they need/want without any comparisons. I think she is wasteful as she and BIL are both retired and on fixed income. Also she would NEVER wear anything from the thrift store but often compliments me on what I am wearing (which is usually from the thrift store). I prefer to use the "savings" for fun stuff!
