Default Surprise Birthday Party

Last Saturday (5/26/12) my nieces and I surprised my sister (their mother) with a surprise birthday party. My sister turned 75 on 5/31. Last summer she made the remark that she had never had a birthday party/ Weeeeeellll that got the ball rolling! It was held at the church she has attended her entire life and the fellowship hall was packed! We were delighted. We don't really know how many were there, however we estimate it to be about 100. She was so surprised, the food was beautiful, good and plentiful. Some of her deceased husband's family came from Tennessee, our nieces, nephews and cousins came from Georgia. One cousin came from St. Louis. There were many former and current neighbors in attendance as well as her church family. What fun!

Her daughters had not been successful in finding someone to bake the birthday cake. Out of the clear blue the Pastor's wife called and said a lady who attends church with my sister is a retired baker and specialized in special occasion cakes. She had told the Pastor's wife that she wanted to make and contribute the cake. It was beautiful, served 70 people, so it was quite a contribution as well as a wonderful gesture that she would do this.

We used purple and gold as the color scheme. We had a purple sash made for my sister that said "BIRTHDAY GIRL" in gold glitter. We bought one of those tacky tiara's at the dollar store. It had purple stones and matching earrings. She wore it all day.

Linda, that's awesome! I'm sure everyone enjoyed it as much as the birthday girl! Love the tiara, earrings and banner idea. What a great idea!
