Question Backyard problems - anybody relandscape a hill?

This seemed like the best place to post this question. A large part of my backyard is a steep slope and part of it is eroding away. My husband and I would like to add retaining walls somehow but also make it easy for mowing. (ha.......) I just wanted to know if anyone else had a similar problem and/or solution.

TIA!

Default Possible backyard erosion solution.

Sometimes when your backyard has much of a slope, it is better to plant low-growing plants (sometimes called ground cover) or to plant tress or bushes that can give you privacy but does not require any mowing for your safety. I love to watch gardening shows on DIY and HGTV and their websites, www.DIYNETWORK.com and www.HGTV.com, for suggestions. Hope this may give you some options for your problem. Good Luck.

I have a carport in the backyard and there is a slope to that, so I was planting low growing leaves/flowers that are especially for erosion. I used Creeping Red Sedum and Wintercreeper. You can check these out at www.directgardening.com. That is where i got them from, you can read all about them and do a search for more low growing perennials, they have quite a few depending on your taste. They may take awhile to grow in, but will be worth it in the end. Hope this helps some!
