Well it is obvious that a holiday is near, with the price of gas sky rocketing. Today ours was $2.55 up 30 cents in a week. Here is one thing we are doing. I know it won't help but it makes us feel better. When we buy gas, we do not go into the station for anything, anymore. If we want a soda/coffee, snack, lottery ticket, we go somewhere else. If everyone would stop buying inside the stations, the owners would really start to hurt. They might then start putting some pressure on the places they purchase gas , and maybe the gas prices would start to go down.;)

Here in Indiana prices are 2.59 to 2.65. Always go up on by several cents on Thursdays and sometimes will go down a penny or two the following Monday evenings. It is ridiculous how the oil companies are allowed to earn millions in profits but still stick it to the little guy. We just returned home from a vacation in Florida. Cheapest we saw for gas was in Georgia at 2.30 per gallon. Guess that state doesn't tack on as much tax as some of the others do.

Here in VA I paid $2.46 last week. Most of the local stations are around $2.60ish...then there's the one right before Interstate 95 that's charging $2.99. There's one where I will plan on filling up before we hit the road for a trip is still at $2.44.
I have to say that we are the LOWEST gas prices around No. VA. Most of the area has $2.60-$2.80 on average. If you head into DC, you might as well see what you can get for your first born.

Here in Memphis, regular was around $2.75 Friday evening when I filled up my car.
In response to the question of why it is so high in California, I believe from what I've read it is two-fold. One reason is that because of all the air pollution restrictions, the gas costs more to refine for use there. Also, the cost of living is generally higher there than in many other places in the United States. I happen to in Memphis, generally considered one of the least expensive major metropolitan areas to live.
As for why gas is so high, it is whatever the market will bear. It is called free enterprise. As long as folks will pay it, they will keep raising it. I personally, don't like paying such high prices and my husband and I both drive vehicles that get pretty good mileage. If I need a bigger car for vacation or whatever, I just rent one and use something small around town. I don't need an SUV to run errands. However, there never seems to be a shortage of customers when I pull up to the pumps so it doesn't seem to have affected too many customer's in the wallet yet. I believe the prices will continue to climb and that we won't see any let up until after LABOR DAY, when the big driving season is over. They always go down in September unless there is a major hurricane that shuts down the drilling.

That won't hurt a bit. Wanna know why. Because if you stop going into the stations they will close then you will do it somewhere else then they will close. Catch the drift? The only thing you will be doing in the long run is hurting yourself. If everybody would just stop panicing all the time and get gas when they need it the supply and demand would stablize and so would the gas prices.

I just got gas yesterday and had to pay $2.75
but when I drove to a town that is bigger and about 35 miles away it was only $2.68
some of us have to get gas in order to get where we need to go. I know that I have cut down going places out of the way because we just can't afford anymore gas every week with our budget.:(
