What is a coupon train?

A coupon train is basically a coupon exchange. An envelope filled with non-expired coupons is sent between riders. When you receive the envelope of coupons, take the coupons you will use and replace them with your unwanted coupons. Then mail it along to the next passenger on the list.

The Guidelines:

Take only what coupons you need.
Replace what coupons you take.
Try to include coupons that everyone will appreciate.
No coupons with expiration dates within 5 days.
Remove expired coupons. Culling out the coupons is very important, especially when a bunch are added. There's simply no point in paying postage costs to mail expired coupons. You may mail them to the military or throw them away.
Mail the envelope to the next rider on the list within 3 days.
Please provide enough postage so as not to delay the train.
Limit your train riding to 3 trains or less. This prevents confusion and makes room for new passengers.
To help prevent train derailment, your e-mail address is required. If you have not been present on the site for awhile, your conductor will e-mail you when the train is headed to the passenger ahead of you. If you have not responded by the time the train is ready to be sent to you, you will be taken off the passenger list. This does not mean you are off the train permanently. You may always re-join your train by contacting your conductor.

Please remember to post the status (received/sent) in your train's thread. Post when your train comes in and again AFTER it leaves. Communication is vital to the success of the train's existence. The other passengers like to know where it is and how long it takes to get from one stop to the next.

Please check your train thread(s) often. The conductor may need to take a vote on a change, or another passenger may have a question for you, etc. It may be a good idea to check it daily if it is right before or after your stop.

Does anyone have a status update on the train? I've got some really great coupons that expire on the 31st, so I'm hoping the train will come back around by then :) If it does come so the next person can use them, I'll clump them together so they can toss them when they expire.

Another great deal, especially for the cold season, if you shop at Rite-Aid you can get Buckley's Cough or Expectorant Syrup for FREE by sending in for the Rebate. There rebate system is all online, so very, very easy to use. You just enter your receipt number and at the end of the month send in for all your rebates.

Today I got a box of 20-ct Electrasol Geltabs, Softsoap hand soap and Buckley's Cough syrup for all for .24 after Rebates and with a $.75 coupon for the Electrasol! Not a bad trip to the store :D That deal is good through Saturday, I think!!

It was my mother-in-law that was in the hospital--things are a little better now. She's back in the nursing home. Now it's just daily visit there to make sure they are doing what they are suppose to. The P.O. put it in a clear plastic envelope with an apology. Since the coupons are so wet, I will let them dry tomorrow and go through them on Saturday. I hope to have them back in the mail by Monday to Teldira. As a suggestion, to prevent this sort of thing from happening in the future, perhaps we should use bubble envelopes for larger packages. Thanks so much. I can't wait to go through them.

Good thing I've got a huge pile to toss in so we can take out any damaged ones and refresh it with new :) I've still got last weekends coupons to sort through - 6 coupon flyers in the paper x 5 newspapers = a LOT of coupons :) In lieu of bubble wrap, how does a gallon size ziplock bag sound? That should protect the coupons pretty well from any water damage.

I would say that it depends on how many coupons you have before Sunday's paper. If you have a bunch just send it out today if not wait until Monday.

I was wondering about our trains geographical order. I notice that I'm receiving the coupons from Massachusettes, (I'm in Oregon) then sending it all the way back to Pennsylvania. So, the train is traveling from the East Coast to the West Coast and then back to the East Coast. Would it be more efficient if it traveled a more geograpical path across the US? Not knowing where others live perhaps I'm just the odd ball on the West Coast ;)

As I said earlier, I received one very small train a little over a week ago. It said 'Forward' on the envelope. It only had a few coupons and I was able to send it in a normal envelope.

On Saturday, I received another train from Carol that said 'Train #13'. This train was much larger.

I have not yet received a reverse train.

I'm not sure how 3 trains rolled down our track. The only thing I can think of is if someone belongs to a bullet train or another train they somehow got them mixed up. Lets try it again from the beginning. Practice makes perfect!

yes dear, if you take out 10 coupons you have to put in 10 to replace those you took plus put some more.

The Guidelines:

Take only what coupons you need.
Replace what coupons you take.
Try to include coupons that everyone will appreciate.
No coupons with expiration dates within 5 days.
Remove expired coupons. Culling out the coupons is very important, especially when a bunch are added. There's simply no point in paying postage costs to mail expired coupons. You may mail them to the military or throw them away.
Mail the envelope to the next rider on the list within 3 days.
Please provide enough postage so as not to delay the train.
Limit your train riding to 3 trains or less. This prevents confusion and makes room for new passengers.
To help prevent train derailment, your e-mail address is required. If you have not been present on the site for awhile, your conductor will e-mail you when the train is headed to the passenger ahead of you. If you have not responded by the time the train is ready to be sent to you, you will be taken off the passenger list. This does not mean you are off the train permanently. You may always re-join your train by contacting your conductor.

Please remember to post the status (received/sent) in your train's thread. Post when your train comes in and again AFTER it leaves. Communication is vital to the success of the train's existence. The other passengers like to know where it is and how long it takes to get from one stop to the next.

Please check your train thread(s) often. The conductor may need to take a vote on a change, or another passenger may have a question for you, etc. It may be a good idea to check it daily if it is right before or after your stop.
