Hello Everyone,
I didn't know where to place this request or if it is even allowed, but I would like to ask you all for prayers for our new Grandson.

Cashton was born after 22 hours of labor, he swallowed a large amount of amniotic fluid. He was diagnosed with an infection in his lungs and is on antibiotics. He is in the NICU.

Our son and D-I-L were told today that he has now been diagnosed with a heart murmur and will have to stay in the NICU for at least 7 more days! They are heart broken since Kim will be released today.

Thanks in advance.

He is in a very good Catholic Hospital so if need be Fr. Gerald will be there to Baptize Cashton.

I will definently keep them in my prayers!

My son was in the NICU for 2 weeks after he was born...he was born premature at 5 weeks early. It was tough to go through, so I understand!

Your family will definitely be in my prayers. Both of my kids have been in and out of hospitals since they were born, so I know it's not an easy thing to go through. Hopefully everyone will remember to not only pray for the baby's health but to also pray for his family to have the strength to make it through such a difficult time.

I work in the NICU here and he is in excellent hands. The nurses there are always so caring and helpful. Another great resource would be the March of Dimes for your family. They can also provide great services.

Thank You ALL very much for your prayers, kind words, and words of encouragement.

We have trust and faith in the staff in the NICU. They took care of our now 17 month old Grandson when he was born by emergency c-section. He was a preemie 2 days shy of being 6 weeks early. He was a teeny tiny one 4lbs 5 oz and 17 1/2 inches long.

I haven't heard yet tonight how the new baby is doing, but hopefully I'll have an update tomorrow.

Once again... Thank you all!

Just an update....
Baby was air lifted to Loma Linda hospital tonight, he might be having heart surgery. They found a problem with one of his valves where the flap is staying shut and not open.

The cardiologist there wants to run her own test since the echo cardiograms at the hospital came back inconclusive.

My continued thoughts and prayers are with you and yours after reading about your grandson.

We all have intertwined lives. I, myself, have had experience with premees. My grand daughter was 3lb 1/2 oz when she was born. On the 13 of November she turned 12. We owe alot to the prayers and selfless acts of others on her behalf.

I think it's a wonderful idea to post a need for a prayer. Sometimes they are the only Voices that Will Be Heard.

Thanks once again for all of your thoughts and prayers!!

After a VERY rough night last night, then rushing to the hospital at 2:30am today we FINALLY have a diagnosis, Cashton is suffering from hypoplastic left heart syndrome (http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=1353).

Our son and D-I-L were told that the world renown Dr. Leonard Bailey will be the surgeon to do the operation. He will meet with them either tomorrow or Tuesday.

As for now, baby is stabilized, and kept on medication until his lungs dry out and he is able to have the first of 3 operations.

Thanks be to God, there IS a light at the end of the tunnel!

I am glad that they have pinpointed the problem with your grandchild and now they can work on fixing it. I am praying for a speedy recovery. My sister and I were both sick at out birth. My sister was born premature and was immediately taken to another hospital for treatment without my mother being able to see her. My mother said imagine having to go home without a child. They did not think she would make it but did make it for 32 years before dying from complications after gastric bypass surgery. I was diagnosed with spinal meningitis at 3 weeks old and my mother had to be put into isolation with me while I got treatment. I think about how my grandmother's first child had this also back in the 30's and they were not able to treat this child and she was sent home to pass. Medicine has come a long way and I would not be here if I had been born those so many years ago. Your grandchild has been born at a time where he can be treated and cared for by very knowledgable doctors. I wish you the best and am praying for your family and can't wait for you to post us some pictures of when the baby comes home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once again... I cannot thank you ALL enough for your words of encouragement and your prayers.

I haven't heard anything this morning. Richard and Kim are going to try to stay at the Ronald McDonald house that is near Loma Linda so they will not have to drive the 1 hour drive each way to the hospital each day. I think Richard is going to take his last week of vacation time, and he might take his 12 weeks of family leave allowed by the state so he can be there with Kim.

Richard was a preemie and I had to go home without him, but it was only for one day. It nearly killed me. I cannot imagine how Kim feels as a new Mother. I know how it feels as a Grandmother and my heart aches!!

I am relying on our faith as Christians and knowing that God is in control.

Thanks once again!

Thanks for the update Mae.

Both of my sisters had preemie baby that had to stay at the hospital. Since the drive home was three hours and The Ronald McDonald house was full, the nurses suggested hotel in the area. The hotels discounted the rates knowing that they were staying there due to the full Ronald McDonald house. The hotel even gave our whole family a break when we went there when my neice had surgery. She was born with Spina Biffida. I think we paid like $50 a night.

Prayers are with you & yours..............

Surgery is at 7am today, PST. (Tuesday)

One of the cardiologist who will be assisting Dr. Bailey did another echo cardiogram. He said Cashton's heart has actually IMPROVED!! He said the surgery will take anywhere from 4-8 hours.

Of course, I cannot seem to fall asleep tonight.

Thank you all for your support and prayers, they ARE working!!!!!! :D

Today our family has been truly blessed!!

Our son called me at 9:35 am and said, "the repair is done, they need to raise Cashton's body temp since they had to flat line him to do the surgery, it will take 1 hour to bring him back up. While they are bringing him back up, Dr. Bailey said he will watch his heart pump for 30 minutes before closing him up to make sure it is working as it should. He just came out and told us "the repair looks good!"

At 10:40am, he called back and said, "Cashton is off the ventilator, they closed him up, and Dr. Bailey said "ALL is well!!!!!"

Hubby and I went down at Noon and spent the rest of the day with Richard and Kim. They were allowed to spend the first 30 minutes of recovery with him, after that only 10 minutes every hour so Cashton would not get over stimulated.

He is being weaned off of Morphine and is being given Tylenol for pain. His drainage tube will be removed from his tummy tomorrow, and so will his feeding tube. Hopefully, tomorrow the rest of the family will be able to visit him. Dr. Bailey said 24-48 hours depending on how well he is doing.

The surgery was expected to be between 4-8 hours long. Dr Bailey started at 8:03 am and was finished at 10:40 am!!!

God is GOOD!!!!

I know I have said this many times before, but once again I want to THANK YOU ALL for your continued prayers for my family, especially our 6 day old Grandson, Cashton!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU ALL!!!!!

Today Cashton's 2 IV's were removed, the drain tube for his incision, and his catheter. :D

He has gained 2 lbs so far. Dr told them it was from all the fluids from the IV's. When his feeding tube is removed he said not to worry if he drops a few ounces and even up to 1 lb that is normal.

Thanks Ladies, the news just keeps getting better by the day!!

Richard called tonight and said the feeding tube, the ventilator tube, and all of his IV's have been removed. They also removed the tape from his incision! I think the only thing he has left is the shunt they put in his neck and the oxygen nose clip. The shunt will probably be removed tomorrow!

One of the nurses said Cashton is doing so well that he might be released to go home as early as Tuesday!!

Hubby and I took the crib we bought for Cashton over to Richard and Kim's apt last night. Looks like Cashton will be coming home either today or tomorrow!!

The kids had to take a few classes at the hospital, infant CPR, RSV class, and had to learn now to insert the feeding tube into his nose. He does not finish all of the formula in the bottle. The nurses' said he is just lazy. Kim says he make a HORRIBLE face when they give him the bottle so she doesn't think he likes the taste of the formula. Can't blame him there, that stuff stinks! LOL!

They also found our Cashton qualifies for CCS (http://www.dhs.ca.gov/pcfh/cms/ccs/). Looks like they will be getting financial help for all of his medical expenses. Cashton will receive his first RSV shot before he leaves the hospital. Each shot costs $1000, and he will need to have 6 of them.

Thanks once again Ladies for all of your prayers and well wishes!!

Debbie, our middle Grandson Dylan (17 months old) was a preemie too. He was born 6-1/2 weeks early by emergency c-section. He weighed 4 lbs 5 oz. He is now as tall as our Oldest Grandson Braden (20 months) who was full term.
