I don't think there is any way to prevent it, but I do know this, when my daughter had strep throat years ago, I took her to the doctor, he prescribed an antibiotic for her, he said that strep throat can affect other organs if not treated promplty....and, she was to take all of her meds until they were gone, not until she felt better.

Here is more information on Strep Throat...I hope your child feels better asap!

Vitamins and frequently washing hands. Not to mention sharing items. Children like to share, thats what they are taught in school, so it continues on to hair brushes and etc.

And I know some of us use that hand sanitizer. Don't use it ALL the time, if used all the time it kills the good germs on our hands, making it easy for the bad germs to take over!

I have suffered from strep throat since I was 12 years old. I usually get it around the holidays.

There really isn't much you can do to prevent it other that what has already been mentioned by others on this board.

If your child is prone to getting it more that 2 times a year, ( like I was when younger) my suggestion is take him/her to the Dr as soon as they complain of a sore throat that lasts longer than 2 days, OR ASAP if it is accompanied by a high fever and and a rash. Strep throat can go into scarlet fever and damage the heart and kidneys.

Make sure you do NOT give them baby aspirin for the fever. ONLY Tylenol or Mortin.

There's nothing you can do, but make sure the test is a true positive for strep.my daughter had to have her tonsils removed due to reoccurring strep this June. She had it at least 4 times a year.I feel for you its fustrating.

Make sure there's no sharing of cups or glasses, I used to babysit in a home that the parents kept practically sterile & they couldn't understand why the kids were always getting sick. Well, things were spotless all over the house...except there was 1 cup in the kids' bathroom & the kids were both sharing it. Whatever one got, the other got soon after!

Also, change out the toothbrushes often. Especially when the child is ill, get rid of that toothbrush. A friend of mine runs her family's toothbrushes through the dishwasher, that's a little extreme for me though.

One of my nieces would get strep several times every year. Both of her parents were smoking at the time, her ENT told them to not smoke in the home or vehicles & never to smoke around the child. She never got strep again!

Good luck, stay healthy!

You're very welcome. It's sad that some parents will send their children to school when they should be kept at home.

Like LadyPyro mentioned, make sure your son is not sharing drinks or food with the other child. All it takes is a few sips from a drink or a bite or two of food the sick child has, especially if that child is contagious (running a fever).
