I LOVE my vacuum sealer! I bought it several months ago and man it was/is sooooo worth the money. I only buy baggies now for odd ball stuff to go in the fridge. Before, I would spend $20 easy on baggies...now I spend $6 on cut your own size vacuum bags. Holy cow...my meats look as pretty as when I bought them at the store and they have been in my freezer for months! Does anyone else have one?

Yes, I have a vacuum sealer, I bought my first one 10 years ago, and a few months ago I treated myself to a new one, It has every bell and whistle on it, I have the "Food Saver" and I reuse the bags, I wash them with hot soapy water and put them over a huge plastic cup to dry, of course they do get old over time, but what a great product, I would not be without mine!! If any of you were thinking about investing in one, they are well worth the money. ;)

Oh I know! They are worth their weight in gold I tell ya! I reuse some of the bags...like from veggies or fruits...too nervous about meats...my youngest son (now 10 months old) somehow contracted salmonela (sp) when he was 3 months old...so I'm a bit nervous now. Otherwise, I agree with you as to anyone who has thought about buying one but maybe thought they were a bit pricey.....they pay for themselves the first time you use them!!

I absolutely love my Food Saver!!! I have convinced several friends to buy them since buying mine 5 years ago. It is truly amazing how long things can last! I have had meat that has been in the freezer for 2 years, (yes, you know, those lost packages in the depths of the deep freezer) and they tasted just like they were brand new.
I would die without mine!

I have often wondered about these, so I appreciate the 411. Thanks!

I've had one for years and years and have only replaced it once even though it's one of the cheaper ones. I couldn't do without mine as well! It also keeps lunch meat and cheese fresher - I put mine in the sealer bags when I come home from the store and they stay fresher and last a whole lot longer because the air can't get in.

Can anyone recommend a vacuum sealer? I need one that's at least 11"-12" wide to package my cheesecakes. Do they make a non-commercial size one that would work? Thanks for any help you can give me!:)

Food Saver is the best! But I would only get the one that you can vacuum to a certain point then seal the bag, otherwise your cheesecake will be mooshed. They do make them with this feature....Otherwise you have to go commercial to seal items that are delicate.

I usually freeze my cheesecakes after making them, so it might just work. I'd really like to seal them in the packaging and not just the cheesecake itself. What does the Seal a Meal cost?

Oh that sure makes a difference then if you freeze the cheesecake, well the Food Saver cost me just around $100.00 it is a very good one, and I am sorry I put the wrong brand in the earlier post,(seal a meal) I meant the Food Saver, it is the best! I got mine on QVC, but I am sure you can get it at Coscto or other major dept store, or look on the web, perhaps Amazon.com has them, I give it 10 stars out of 10, it works that good, goodluck in whatever one you decide on.

I just bought one today for my sister at Kohl's on sale for 50% off. It was $99.99 reg $199.99. It has everything - roll storage with cutter, 3 canisters and bags. It's so much nicer then the one I have.

I LOVE my foodsaver. It was a bridal shower present from my sister. I have to say though I do prefer the bags from the rolls. They seem to seal better. One thing I really love to do is marinate meats with the bags. Enjoy your new addition! :)
