Diazone granules not sure if I spelled that quite right. I would read the package to be sure. We buy it in like a 3-5 # bag at walmart and sprinkle it around our foundation it has never killed the grass. I f we have any left we shake it in the yard around the deck.

I don't know how the flowers will feel about this, but I know that natural deterants for ants include cinnamon and chili powder, as well as white vinegar.

We had the problem with ants, they were coming into the house but they were all over the yard, plants, everywhere! I sprayed outside and sprayed inside but could not get any relief so I ended up calling Clark pest control. I am worry free and life is so much better.
Good luck, I know how frustrating it can be.

Yes, the diazinon granules will kill the ants. However, PLEASE mix it down into the dirt a little bit. If you just sprinkle it on top and a bird eats it, it will kill the bird.

I have used white vinegar and it works. Also to keep weeds out of cracks of sidewalks and driveway vinegar works too.
For heavy duty ants, I have had to upgrade to diazonon granuals. Works everytime, just make sure your outside animals stay away from it.
If the flowers are bulbs, don't use vinegar though, my iris came out white one year.. stripped it of color..
hey a science experiment for anyone with older kids.. gl
