[QUOTE=notyard;33243]Just a thought for a new thread--

Rave Hair Masque--a thick conditioner that came in a big tube--contained waxes, but I didn't care as it left my hair shiny and made detangling go so much faster--I didn't see any of the much talked about buildup problem from waxes and I used it for two years--discontinued in the late 80's

I remember this--scary thing is I think I still have some:eek:

Many years ago Nabisco made their own baked Tortilla Chip w/Cheese, it came in a box like wheat thins and it was AWESOME! We bought a box for a family vacation and when we came back home they were no where to be found.

Long John Silvers used to have wraps which were huge tortilla with your choice of fish or chicken, rice, tartar sauce or ranch dressing, and lettuce/tomato and they were the yummiest things! I remember they were so big I could only eat 1/2 but you can be sure the other 1/2 was gone by the end of the day ;)

Last fall they had the McRib Farewell Tour. I took that to mean that they weren't bringing it back. Or maybe that was just clever marketing, I dunno. But I do know that it's been over a year. (Yes, I keep track of these things.)

I miss McDonalds soups in the winter time. I loved their broccoli and cheese soup. I even asked the manager one time which brand it was and she said it was Campbell's. I even went and bought the soup in the store and it just wasn't the same. I could eat a bowl of it a day. When I was pregnant I craved that soup and would make my daughter's father go buy me like four bowls at a time.. so I could have them just in case I got a pregnancy craving and he wasn't around.. They were good sellers, I don't know why they took them off the menu

I really enjoy reading these posts. Brings back the memories.

I miss Banana Suzie Q's. My mom used to really love Hey-Dey cookies (not sure how you spell them). She said they had caramel and nuts and she thought Nabisco made them. I remember when I was a kid I loved Crazy Cow strawberry cereal- it made the milk turn pink.

They were these little packets that you put in the mirowave for 1 minute. It would heat up and pop open and there was a nice warm lemon scented wipe in there that you would use to wipe out the microwave. They worked great and smelled wonderful. I couldn't find them anywhere so I contacted the company and they said that they discontinued them. :(

Another good place for hard to find items is The Vermont Country Store--even the previously mentioned Horlick's wafers! Their website is: http://vermontcountrystore.com

It's not run very often at the plant that makes it--it's still made by Kraft under the Seven Seas label--and it's not distributed to very many stores.

You are right about the Green Goddess made by Seven Seas, they do come out with it every so often but it doesn't taste the same to me....and the Vermont Country Store is a wonderful catalog with so many "oldies" that I remember, and their prices aren't too bad either....thanks for the updates!

Just an FYI--I saw Green Goddess Salad Dressing at a Wal-Mart SuperCenter in Glendale, AZ(suburb of Phoenix) today.

The food that I miss is Momma's Cookies(not sure if that the correct spelling:( ). I grew up in the southwest Ohio area(Dayton & Hamilton) & remember my grandma always having at least 1 box on hand everytime I visited. If I ever found them again I would probably buy at least a case. I especially loved that chocolate ones. The cookies had a hole in the center and I use to see how many I could fit on my finger at one time. Boy do I miss those carefree days.

Brach's made the best red licorice that I ever ate. You used to be able to buy it in little packs to hand out at Halloween. I wrote them a letter to tell them I could not longer find it and see where I could buy it, and was informed that they no longer make it. Nothing compared to it so not I don't eat licorice.

Hi everyone...

Once in a while I have a craving, or would like to have something particular that has been discontinued. I discovered I can do an internet search for the item... especially candy and find the item and order the treat through the company online.

I saw Marathon bars (Marathon bars had another name as well Curly Wurly, which has peanut butter from years ago), licorice snaps, and other goodies in my wanderings.

Hope this helps!!

On the Food Network the other day, can't remember the name of the show but it is hosted by Marc Summers, they were showing the Clove Gum and the people that produce it said that it is a product that they bring back every few years to select markets. I miss those Big Stuff Oreos. They were giant and were yummmmmy! Oh, and when I was a child my mom would give us I think Creamulsion when we had a cold. Seems like there were kids on the bottle and it was a cola colored liquid. I would get in trouble for sneaking it and drinking it. LOL

OK...this hasn't been gone for too long yet, but I REALLY loved Dove "Nutrium" body wash and bars. Fortunately, when I first couldn't find it on the grocery shelves I call Dove(lever?) and they sent me tons of coupons, (for other products), and told me to search ebay & small mom & pop stores for them. I did, and got quite the stockpile of them. Currently I have only 3 big (24oz) bottles of body wash left, and approx 40 some bars left. I am however, hoping, they will come to their senses and bring it back. Why do they stop making something if the demand for it is so high? That baffles me!!

Another thing I miss, that was only out for a short time a few years back was Taco Bells Frito chili. Man....was that stuff good! Now whenever I have chilli, I make sure to have fritos on hand!

And....a good place to find old time candies, etc, that are no longer on store shelves, is

I used to like Carnation Instant Breakfast bars. They had a great chocolatey coating on them and the center was kind of dense and very tasty. I also liked Milk Break bars. Part of their lingo was "there's half a glass of milk in every Milk Break bar". There are alot of different breakfast bars around now, but nothing like either of these unfortunately.

I miss Panera's Fandango salad. I'm still upset that they got rid of it.

And while this isn't discontinued, it's now VERY hard to find: Johnson & Johnson's Soft Creme. They have Soft Lotion, but this stuff is thicker and actually worked.

Aveda is discontinuing their Brilliant Forming Gel and I can't figure out why, because that stuff is amazing for curly or straight hair. I bought all they had left last time I was there.

Speaking of haircare, I am saddened because Infusium discontinued it's 'Repair and Smooth Lotion'. This worked great on my unruly hair. I contacted the company since I didn't see it in the store anymore, and sure enough they discontinued it. Luckily I stocked up on it when it was in my Big Lots store, so I still have some left. Maybe by the time it is used up they will bring back something similar, because years ago they had a similar product with a different name that they ALSO DISCONTINUED. Both of these products were the best thing I have ever used to keep my hair tamed. What a bummer!

Ambush was launched by Dana in 1955. It is a sharp, oriental, woody fragrance possessing a mix of lavender, jasmine, oakmoss, sandalwood and patchouli accompanied by fruity notes of fresh citrus, melons, peaches and plums. Ambush is recommended for daytime wear.

There is some talk on this site about the NEW Ambush versus the old...

CANOE is the male equivalent to AMBUSH, by the way. Both were very popular in the '60s.

I'm gonna go WAY BACK...Does anyone remember Swanson frozen dinners
that came in the alumium trays? Swanson used to put out an International
flavored frozen dinners-I used to eat the German one all the time....

How about Rice Cream Flakes Cereal?
Ragu Pasta Meals (came in a jar)?

I used to remember years back when I was a kid that those little boxes of
cereals that came all together (kelloggs snack pack/or kelloggs Jumbo pk)
You could open up the front of the box and each the cereal with milk right out of the box itself...it was lined with thick wax paper.

Well, General Mills put those out only the cereal was in one long box and
each different cereal was in a cellophone pkg you could see right thru.

I have found memories of the Swanson frozen dinners in the aluminum trays. They were so good.

I remember the individual cereal boxes that you could put milk in too. So convenient.

The one thing I would like to have that I used to eat a lot is the Tuna Helper Tuna Tetrazzini. I don't know why I liked it so much because I normally don't like foods that aren't homemade but for some reason I just crave it.

They still make Lik M Aid and candy dots on paper, I can get them at my local grocery store, but they don't carry fresh herbs, garlic or ginger....strange town I live in. You can also find them on oriental trading, ebay and nastalga (way spelled wrong) stores usuall found in tourist towns.

Anyone Remember Fizzies? It was a round pill type thing the size of about
a quarter that you put into a glass of water and "PRESTO" you got a soft
drink in a glass. I used to LOVE those drinks as a kid on a hot summers day.
I wonder why they quit making it? They would come on a sheet of 6 or 8
and the pills things were in foil you just punched out.
I remember the flavors of Rootbeer, lime, cherry, raspberry, orange and I am
sure there were others.

I don't remember the fizzies, but I think I would have liked 'em. I do remember a candy called Zotz. It was like a hard candy, but the inside fizzed up in your mouth. Those were so good. I had never heard of these before so I did some research... If you don't mind ordering online, I found a website called Old Time Candy http://www.oldtimecandy.com/packabag.htm , that sells individual packs of Fizzies for $2.69, or a case for $14.99. The quantities on the Fizzies website seem to be for retailers to order. Just thought I'd throw that out there! :)

You folks are making me hungry!

I really miss Kraft's clam dip!!! I even wrote to them about it but *sigh* they have no plans on bringing it back. :( Any of you have a good recipe for clam dip that tastes like Kraft's?

There are 2 items I miss and think about a lot though I can't recall their names. One was a chip that tasted just like bacon. It was even shaped like a small bite of bacon and was striped to similate the strips of meat and fat. Haha ... that sounds gross but it truly was awesome! The other was a chocolate and caramel candy bar. It was about 6' long and the caramel was twisted in a pattern similar to a lattice strip and then covered in chocolate. Anyone remember these? I am 43 so if you are around my age then maybe you will recall them.

Oh yeah ... wanted to tell you ... I see Razzles at the Dollar Tree all the time! Hopefully those of you wanting them have a Dollar Tree nearby. :) I love that place because they carry several items I can no longer find in the grocery store. Such as "Not So Sloppy" Sloppy Joe sauce. I LOVE that brand so much better than any of the others.

You are talking about the Marathon candy bar! I loved those darn things. They were huge! I used to take a bite, let all the chocolate melt off, then eat the caramel. They'd last forever that way! Sure could use one now! :D

OMGoodness! You are right! After reading your reply, I looked up Marathon Candy Bar so I could see if I could find a picture of the actual candy w/o the wrapper. They have a picture of it at the oldtimecandy site. Apparently, at one time, they were also called Curly Wurly. :) I have got to have one (or 2 or 10) of those!

Hey, I found all of the flavors of Fizzies, even the rootbeer, on the shelf at Farm and Fleet of all places. $1.99 for a package of 8--MUCH better price, and MUCH easier to try when you only have to buy a single package, not a case!

I like Fizzies, Black Jack gum, Teaberry gum, Chuckles, and a bunch of other products--old childhood memories that made me happy when they reappeared in the physical form, not just as memories. I never ran across Razzles before in my life until someone mentioned them here. Now, if you find some of that gold nugget gum stuff--rather like Chiclets, but all yellow and irregularly shaped little pieces of candy-coated gum, shaped to look like little "gold nuggets", sold in a little cloth drawstring bag--on that sort of sale in your favorite dollar store, give me a holler. :D

For triggering memories, nothing beats the sense of smell—one whiff of Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific shampoo brought us back to the time it first hit the scene and discos and mood rings were still in vogue. I agree with you, those were delicious. I posted this back in December (It's post #155):

I used to like Carnation Instant Breakfast bars. They had a great chocolatey coating on them and the center was kind of dense and very tasty. I also liked Milk Break bars. Part of their lingo was "there's half a glass of milk in every Milk Break bar". There are alot of different breakfast bars around now, but nothing like either of these unfortunately.

Bring back soda in glass bottles. Nothing like popping the top off a bottle and drinking straight from the bottle.

Everytime I see a soda in a glass bottle I cant resist the urge to buy it! Taste so much better!:)

Same here, we have a vegetable store sorta like a farmers market only in store form, anyways they have a section with sodas all in bottles, some old brands that aren't sold in stores anymore.

My kids loved the Campbell's Goldfish Soup with Meatballs. I don't know if they stopped making it, but it is no longer sold in our area. I have checked all the grocery stores and Wal-mart and Target. I filled out a product request at the grocery store I shop at weekly with no luck. I also emailed Campbell's customer service and got no response. I buy the Goldfish soup that has no meatballs, but the kids say it is not the same.:(

Target is selling a limited edition of 4 glass bottles of coke for Christmas. Not cheap though.

Things we miss: O'Boisies potato chips. My daughter e-mailed Skippy to
tell them to please bring back the Skippy Bar!

I miss reduced fat slice and bake Pillsbury cookie dough. That was awesome and didn't taste low fat.

I miss Baked Lays Sour Cream & Onion. They still make it but they don't sell them anywhere near Savannah, GA.

I miss Grandma's fudge cookies - ditto... they make it ,but not around this region anymore.

Salon Selectives shampoo & conditioner. I loved that apple smell.

OOOOH! I forgot about Salon Selectives! I used to use that ALL the time. Darn. Why do they always discontinue the good stuff! ;)

My roommate in college always had a huge bottle of "Stiff Stuff" hairspray ---it was like superglue you could spray on your hair. Took 2 or 3 shampoos to get it washed out, but man, it could hold that 80s hair like nobody's business!! :)
