I really want this to be fun and helpful to all of us, so please follow the forum guidelines for the train, and keep us all well informed if you have any issues or questions about the train. Please feel free to post questions/comments here or PM me if you need anything :)

What is a coupon train?

A coupon train is basically a coupon exchange. An envelope filled with non-expired coupons is sent between riders. When you receive the envelope of coupons, take the coupons you will use and replace them with your unwanted coupons. Then mail it along to the next passenger on the list.

The Guidelines:

Take only what coupons you need.
Replace what coupons you take.
Try to include coupons that everyone will appreciate.
No coupons with expiration dates within 5 days.
Replace expired coupons if you can.
Mail the envelope to the next rider on the list within 3 days.
If you cannot continue, please let the conductor of your train know so that the train can be continued.
Please provide enough postage so as not to delay the train.

Please remember to post the status (received/sent) in your train's thread.

We are all anxiously awaiting the arrival of the train, so it's very important for us to know where the train is. Thanks for your consideration!

If you would like to join a train, please look for the current sign-up train thread and post there.


notice/reminder for all train threads

Please post when your train comes in and again AFTER it leaves. Communication is vital to the success of the trains existence. The other passengers like to know where it is and how long it takes to get from one stop to the next.

Please check your train thread(s) at least every other day. The conductor may need to take a vote on a change, or another passenger may have a question for you, etc. It would be good to check it daily if it is right before or after your stop.

Please limit your train riding to 3 trains or less. This will be to just prevent confusion and to make room for new passengers.

And please, please don't join a train or stay on your train if you feel like you may not be able to follow through with your responsibilities as a passenger!!

I guess I'll start by answering my own questions...
Why did you decide to join a (or another) coupon train?
I'm already on one train, and I realized that while I was waiting for that one to come around, I am sitting on 100's of extra coupons, so why not join another. Then I opened my big mouth, and became the conductor :p

What kinds of coupons are you looking for the most?
Convience foods, like cereal bars and the like. Also frozen food and instant side dishes. Basically, things my husband can make when I'm not home...

What is your favorite movie/book/song etc?
Movie-right now The Nightmare Before Christmas, I don't really have a favorite, I just get into moods.
Book-Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, Welcome to the Monkey House, Harry Potter
Song-same as with movies, right now I'd say You are Everything by REM.

Do you have any questions for your fellow passengers?
Well I think I asked enough already, but do you think this whole "getting to know you" thing is fun, or just stupid (we can ignore it if you want :o )

Because I only use about a 1/3 of the coupons that I get and I thought this would be a really good plan to help someone save money.. because that is what we are all here for right?

ones that can be doubled and things that I use the most. Kids shampoo, food, etc.

It looks like we lost one of the original passengers already, and I am still waiting for info from our newest rider, so the order may change. Because of this, I have not sent anyone the addresses they mail to. I will do that as soon as the order is official. In either case, I will be mailing out the train to cdstilkey by tomorrow morning, so we can get this thing rolling :)

I haven't heard back from any other potential passengers, so it looks like this will be the train for now. I PM'd everyone the address they should send the train to, so if you did not get it for some reason, please let me know.

As far as the order goes, I tried to arrange the stops so there would be the least mailing time between passengers. Right now we're taking a straight path down the east coast (literally top to bottom), and then heading out west. I hope this works, if not we can change things the second time around.

Let me know what you think when you get the train. Ideas/suggestions on making this better are always appreciated :)

Yes I was able to get the train on the way. It went out Tuesday. I'm not too sure how many coupons are in it. I didn't count them, but I only took out about twenty and put in about fifty. (I had three weeks of coupons saved up to put back in).. I'm hoping that was good enough and helps the next people on the train. Sorry it took me such a long time getting back to you on the status of the train, Halloween and EVERYTHING else that goes along with it made it difficult to jump on the computer. :p

and now for a general question...

Originally I was planning on six people for the train, but we didn't hear back from some potential riders. I have been approached by one of those riders, who would like to join the train now. It actually would work out well, since geographically they would have been in the train right after sunsetfairy, so if we add this person to the train, it would not affect the order at this point.
What do you think? Should we add another rider, or leave the train as is? It seems to be moving at a good pace, it has only been two weeks, and we're about halfway around, so I don't think it would slow thinks down much.

Please post here or PM me your thoughts. I'm going to let the majority rule on this one, but please let me know by Sunday, so that I can give the person an answer either way :)

Yup, we just start over again. After the second time around we may switch up the order if we need to though :)

Yeah! We seem to have a pretty fast train. Could you please post again after it you mail it? That way, everyone knows what's going on :p

And, thanks for the reminder about putting the train info on the envelope...It started out that way, we just have to remember to do it after each stop.

By the way, are the envelopes still there, or are the coupons loose? Does anyone have an opinion about that? I know they add weight, so some trains have gotten rid of them...

I wasn't sure how to separate them when I sent them out, everyone I know seems to organize their coupons differently. Does anyone have any ideas on the easiest way to separate them? If we decide on one system, I'll fix it when the train comes back :)

--I too get many coupons that I just end up throwing out so what better way to put them to use.

What kinds of coupons are you looking for the most?
--I'm always looking for soda, lean cuisine, bath products, pampers and now feel and learn training diapers.

What is your favorite movie/book/song etc?
--I like most movies and don't really have a favorite, I don't have much time to read with a 2 year old but I am a huge fan of Dave Matthew's Band!

Do you have any questions for your fellow passengers?

I was thinking about keeping it simple(not too too many categories), but enough. Like the Pet Supplies one I wouldn't even look at because I don't have any pets. We could break it down even more, In my coupon book I usually put things together that are in the same isle so I'm not running all over the store(ha ha.. I have a three year old.. the fastest easiest way to get back out of the store is the mission!!):D

Awww...this makes me sad :( I really hoped everyone would find something they could really use! Thanks for having such a great attitude towards it, though. I saw your post in the other thread, and I know you mentioned a few item you could use. What kinds of pets do you have? Are there any particular brands you are looking for...that way I know what coupons to save for this train...

I did take three of them(maybe I shouldn't have) and they were for 55 cents. I found them on sale...2 for $4. The store I shop at doubles them. So I got each box for under a dollar. That's not bad considering they are originally about $2.79 a box. I'm gonna give the train another try though. I'm hoping there will be more I can use out of the next one.

It's fine to take as many coupons as you want, you should have taken all 4. That is what makes it worth paying the postage. It also shows the value of keeping duplicates in the train. I hope no one else is hesitating to take what they want. As long as you are replacing at least that amount, you should get as much as you can!!!!:)

It seems that there have been problems in several of the trains with riders going missing. For that reason some conductors have been asking riders for an alternate contact method. I would really appreciate it if you would allow me to have your email addresses, please PM them to me. I promise I will only use these to contact you about the coupon train, if PM's and posts go unanswered. I hope this will be all right with all of you, but if anyone has concerns, please PM me.

btw I don't know if everyone knows this, but you can set up to have the system email you each time you get a PM. That way you don't have to check the forums every day, but will still know if someone is trying to contact you. You can also subscribe to a thread, and you will be emailed each time a post is made there as well.

The train is in a Turkey Coma: It is on its way to jastark, however she will be leaving tomorrow for the holidays. So, the train will be delayed for a few extra days.

Oh, I forgot to say...Took out about 10 for myself, about another 20 or so expired, and 10 that I know were there from the begining--I guess no one wanted them :( I added about 100 more. I tried to add as many on the "food" side as I could, since it that envelope was sadly small.

Postage was $2.62, but be careful next time don't try to smush it into a small envelope. I had it in a 9x13 envelope and it was almost too thick to send first class--the mail lady had to measure it before she would put the postage on :p

Issue!! We got hit with the storm pretty bad. My car was buried for the last two days. I didn't even attempt to go out. So the train is being mailed today instead of on Saturday. I'm sorry. Also, I just put the ads in there instead of cutting them out. My daughter has been sick and now me.. So instead of bothering with cutting them I just said I'll pay the extra shipping. It should be coming to the next person shortly!

I decided to join a train because I throw away a ton of coupons and why not share them with others if I won't be using them! My train fell apart and I stepped up to be the conductor. So far so good. :) I also thought it would be fun to meet other women around the US.

What kinds of coupons are you looking for the most?
Convience foods, like pop tarts and the like. Also frozen meals and instant side dishes. I've also got a 3 year old so snack items, juice boxes, pull ups, etc. I would also like household items like Tide, Cascade, Kleenex, tp, papertowels, etc.

What is your favorite movie/book/song etc?
Movie-right now...I don't really have a favorite nor do I really have the time to go to a move. I do have to say I really like Under the Tuscan Sun.
Book-The lastest book I read was DaVinci Code and The Time Travelers Wife.
Song-I like pretty much anything.

Do you have any questions for your fellow passengers?
Well I think I asked enough already, but do you think this whole "getting to know you" thing is fun, or just stupid (we can ignore it if you want )

Thanks, she seems to be doing much better but absolutely hates taking her medicine. It's been such a fight to get her to take it twice a day. They ended up giving her a steroid and it tastes really gross. She doesn't mind the amoxicillan as much.

So I thought I'd keep an eye out on those for her b/c with the second baby it's not going to get any cheaper.

* I haven't really watched any good movies lately. And for books, I really enjoying reading when I have the chance. I find that it is an outlet for me to get away from everything that is going on and just get myself in another world. I like mostly any music, just depends on my mood!

I received the train today from Jessica. I had to pay the extra 51 cent postage. The envelope was obviously to thick for one stamp. Please, when in doubt put another stamp on. I removed a lot of expiring coupons and the index cards (too much weight) sending out to KY tomorrow.

Sorry you had to pay an extra postage! It wasn't thick at all. It wasn't organized and all the coupons were every which way, so that is the reason I put the cards in there in the first place. I was just trying to be considerate! Thought you would have received the coupons sooner than you did, that's why I left several of them that are expirnig on Monday in there. Just trying to be nice, but I won't do this next time!

Didn't mean to stir things up...just tried to make a point that its always a good idea to weigh the envelope and if it is over a 1/4 inch thick it must have more than one stamp regardless of weight.

I've actually got the train still...it's been derailed for a few days...my little one gave us the norovirus (lots of puking and other fun stuff) late last week and I'm just starting to feel better today.
