InfantSEE, a project sponsored by the American Optometric Association and The Vision Care Institute of Johnson and Johnson, provides free eye health assessments for infants between the ages of 6 and 12 months. Former President Jimmy Carter and Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter serve as spokespersons for InfantSEE, as two of their grandchildren suffer from eye conditions that could have been caught much sooner with an infant eye health screening. InfantSEE advertises regularly in Parents magazine, so I believe InfantSEE is legit, though not all of their website is updated--page says 2007 on the bottom, but some of the text says "will start in 2005", for example. The Dr. Locator feature at the top right portion of the page, lets you search for participating optometrists in your area--several turned up in the twin cities that are closest to me--the program has over 7,000 participating optometrists. I would make certain to mention that you are calling for the InfantSEE FREE exam, though, to make certain that the provider is still participating.
