I know this is not the best place to post this but I am in dire need of help. I live in the deep south where the little buggers are everywhere. My husband and I moved inland after Katrina and I have a MASSIVE problem with mosquitos. I have no standing water...but they are ALL over the place. I have a 10 month old who loves to be outside but can't because as soon as I open the door they are all over me. Having to rub my body down everytime I go outside is getting to be a CHORE! Any ideas on what I can use/do to rid them from around my house? ANY suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

you could try those citranella (sp) lanterns and tourches. We have the tiki tourches in our yard and they work pretty well but we dont have them as bad as you do either. Good Luck!

I don't mean to push Avon products but I live in the river bottom (small river)we have tons of skeeters me and my friends swear by avons skin repellent and there skin so soft is a great insect repellent.as far as outdoors we just do our best to keep standing away from the house and yard area like you do but once early eve hits watch out. I use the skin so soft in my bath water in the summer anything that might help. Does a bug zapper help maybe attract them to another area?

I'm gonna watch this topic maybe I'll learn a trick or two on keeping those things under control.

Yes, I grew up on SOS by Avon. It was a life saver indeed. The thing about candles is that I would have to burn them 24/7. We are in and out so much that the candles aren't feesable. Thank you for the thought though. Hopefuly someone will read this and have the SAVE ALL answer for us all lol.

I eat odorless garlic. It secretes out your pores and you are no longer appetizing to the bugs. They LOVE me and this works for me, and its good for you. :D

When we go camping at a friends, on the Red River, there are tons of skeeters. I started buying the Off Yard Guard that you spray in the area that you will be in. It seems to work really well.

Also, if you buy a chiminea and burn pinion wood, it will keep all of the bugs away.

My last bit of advice is that you should stop eating bananas during skeeter season! I read this several years ago when the West Nile Virus began to reek havoc in the Dallas area. I thought it was just an old wives tale but it is soooo true. When you eat bananas, something in them gives off a pheremon that they are attracted to. My neighbors daughter benefited greatly after I told them about it.

Hope some of this helps!

No wonder the skeeters love my husband so much lol he eats 1 nanner a day! I have contacted several places( including the health department) concerning the skeeter problem... I live outside Waco, Texas on 26 acres and we have had an unreal amount of rain this year( so much rain in fact that one day while looking for one of my kittens in a bad storm... I found a lil 5 inch catfish in my back yard.. my back yard is a hay field lol ) and I have standing water everywhere with no real way of getting rid of it except with time and I swear I have billions of skeeters. None of the places I contacted had any solutions except to buy some kind of skeeter poision to pour in the standing water.. no help to me it would cost me a small fortune ughhh. The only thing I have found to use to keep them off me and that I like is the new "dry" off .It dont make you all wet and sticky but I still get bit on my back.. After reading the posting here Im going to try out the avon stuff.. Im tired of walking around with my back scratchin stick lol

I'm not sure if it really works, but I've read that if you take a vitamin B supplement, the mosquitoes don't bite you! It's worth a try if all else fails.

You could always get some bats they eat about 600 mosquito's per hour. Although they would be a little strange they do work. I would probably stick with the Dry Off.
