This is a twist on this topic. Are there any movies that you absolutely HATED? I have 2 of them. The Talented Mr. Ripley, I thought was the worst movie I ever saw UNTIL I saw Mystic River.
I guess I just can't stand a feel-bad movie. That one got good reviews, so I no longer care what the professional "critics" think anymore. I was so upset by Mystic River I posted a negative review at yahoo movies (the first time I posted anything).

That would have to be Dude wheres my car. When it came out my teenage sons came to visit and they wanted to go see it. There was 3 of us and two other guys came in for a total of 5 people. I thought that was strange! little did i know i should have run then. It was just awful!

Movies that I didn't like? Ummmmmm...never thought of that one.....I didn't like - ahhhhhhhh.......Shoot my mind is drawing a blank...let me continue to think.....

I remember one from way back......City of Angels with Nicholas Cage.....it was too long and drawn out.

I didn't like the Austin Powers movies......yeah, that is just me......I don't have that sense of humor, I guess.

And.....Scary Movie.....I didn't particularly like those either.

I can't stand any of the HALLOWEEN movies or RING/RING 2.

DUMB AND DUMBER reminds me too much of some students I've had when teaching English at Elm Street High. Could that then be called: NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET?

I agree with Lily - Meet Joe Black was pretty bad...and LONG!

A pet peeve of mine is all the remakes they do of tv shows - Dukes of Hazzard, Starski and Hutch, etc. How about an original idea??

It's interesting to see what everyone's tastes are in movies. I actually like some of the ones that others on here seem to dislike. I liked The Talented Mr. Ripley, Mystic River and all of the Austin Powers moveis (yes, my husband and I like a lot of the mindless, silly movies - LOL).

I agree about The Royal Tennenbaums. I rented it because I thought it was supposed to be such a good movie, and it really has a great cast, but I had to turn it off because it just didn't grab me.

Another one that was supposed to be good that I didn't care for was Punch Drunk Love with Adam Sandler. I like a lot of his movies, and I could take it if he transitioned from funny to serious in an interesting movie, but I thought Punch Drunk Love was just wierd.

Some other movies that I thought were pretty bad are The Day After Tomorrow, Random Hearts and Blade (my husband and I actually walked out of Blade and can't understand why they made so many sequels). My husband and I actually bought Monster House before we saw it because we had heard it was very good, but we really didn't care for it. I like some romantic comedies, but there are more of them that I don't like. I guess I'm just an action/adventure, drama or comedy kind of girl.

I have to confess, a movie that I hated at first, but now I love to watch is Harold & Kumar go to White Castle. I can't explain it - I know it's stupid, but I crack up every time I watch it.

This was many years ago ,but my husband and I were just talking about when we walked out of the theatre during FIVE EASY PIECES ! We thought it was the stupidest movie we had ever seen. Then it won like 5 Academy Awards! So much for our taste in movies!

It seems that I am more and more disappointed in movies. My most recent disappointment was The BReak Up. All the funny parts were shown in the previews. Does anyone remember when movies had meaning and moved a viewer wherether it was to tears from heart felt emotion or true terror from what lies under the bed? It seems once you have seen one you have seen the next three that will be following it in its genre. Dont get me wrong I am not a movie snob, i love love mindless and funny and things that go boom but the past few years in movies has been terrible.

ok im done Lol :)

Some of your posts reminded me of two more disappointments - Dreamcatchers (walked out of that one) and an awful western made a few years ago about open ranching (its so bad I can't remember the name!) but there was a character called 'Button' and I thought the whole thing was long, drawn out and dumb! When it was finally over, I said 'Thank God!'

I was extremely disappointed in "RV." Or shall we say "Vacation" revisited?

My hubby and I turned "Syriana" off after about 30 minutes. It kept jumping around, so we lost interest. I've only walked out of one movie at a movie theater. Years ago, my sister, future brother-in-law and I walked out of "Lust in the Dust."

If I can think of some more, I'll post.

I know it came out a long time ago but...That would have to be my choice...I missed it at the movies (Was working way too much) so i waited for it to come out on DVD. Of course my old brain wont let me remember titles, but I cant stand anything with Jim Carrey!! I tried to watch an Austin Powers movie once and it was just stupid, couldnt watch 5 minutes. and I hated Youve Got Mail, so sappy. and I am a Tom Hanks fan.

Shrek the Third proved a chore to sit through. We loved the first Shrek, adored the second Shrek, but only liked one part of Shrek the Third. The part where Queen Lillian, Fiona, and the fairytale princesses break out and take on the bad guys was funny, but the rest just dragged and seemed like really tired, worn out, overdone schtick. The first Austin Powers gets into overdone schtick badly in the "elimination" scene, but that wincing piece of film is tolerable as the rest of the movie is funny. Shrek the Third, unfortunately, is mostly a long wince. :(

Agreed. Let's hope this was the last one.

Just watched a movie even my husband couldn't sit through this past weekend: Even Money (2006). It has so many big names (Kim Basinger, Danny DeVito, Kelsey Grammer, Nick Cannon, Ray Liotta, Forest Whitaker, Jay Mohr), I though it would be good, and the plot sounded similar to Crash - where they follow the stories of several different people and they all end up being connected somehow, but this movie was bad. I watched the whole thing because I just couldn't believe that it was that bad - thought it had to get better at some point, especially how all the characters were tied together, but no. It was like a bad Lifetime movie (and I usually like ALL Lifetiem movies!), I just couldn't stop watching. Another bad one this weekend (that's what I get for going to Blockbuster on Friday at 5pm!!), Eastern Promises with Viggio Mortensen and Naomi Watts. Not that good either. The only things I remember from that one are the nasty, very visual mob-style murders and the fight scene in the men's sauna. Let's just say we see ALL of Viggio. ALL. And a sweaty, ***** man is NOT attractive to me. I would've preferred to think of him as the handsome warrior from Lord of the Rings, but now my mind's tainted (pun not intentional, but it works for this one - sorry, it was just terrible!!)

I also don't like stupid characters. I am a middle school teacher and the kids just love them. That says a lot about the movies. If you aren't familiar with middle school kids...well, 7th grade is when the hormones kick in. Enough said about that. I also dislike any slasher (human murderer) films. I do, however, enjoy monster and alien horror films. I just don't think we should promote human on human violence. The kids think it's humerous. I think it sends the wrong message.
