This site made me feel really old!!
If you have any spices, except black pepper, in the rectangular can....
IT'S AT LEAST 15 YEARS OLD!!!

Tells you how to figure out how old your spices are, shelf life, and I didn't check yet, but hopefully some coupons to replace all that has to be thrown out!!

I know I have no idea how long to keep spices around. And I hate to toss them because of how expensive they are. This site is very helpful! Spices and extracts actually have a longer shelf life than I had anticipated.

I can't believe it's been 15 years since we had spices in tins!

What a neat site! Although I'm not sure about how they came up with their dates! I got married 7 years ago, and still use most of the spices I bought then! They still work great!!

I had forgotten about those tins - I grew up cooking with my mom using those! I'll bet she still has a bunch of them!!

Now I don't feel so bad. I have spices in my cabinet at least that old!

Don't feel bad at all! I think as long as they are stored carefully they will last a really long time! I still use my Mom's when we have dinners over there - they work just fine!!

Wow - I used my older spices (7 years or so) last night to make mock KFC chicken strips, and it was too spicy! I rarely overspice, and I followed the instructions for the most part, so I think my spices are still good - yeah!!!!

WAY too expensive to toss/replace! Use it till its gone, then replace!

This site is of course so that you will feel the need to replace your spices. I will not follow it for sure, but I will at least get rid of the ones that are 10 years old.
I like how you can enter the code and get the date, but wouldn't it be easier for them to just put the date on it?!
I also at least learned the expected shelf life--never know when I'm gonna have to whip up a prize winning pie for the county fair:rolleyes: LOL......
and what about the spice police? I'm sure they don't give you any warning......see what you guys get when I don't sleep the night before:p

That's very interesting. It's too bad they don't provide coupons to encourange you to replace your outdated spices.

What a great idea - it might be worth seeing if they have a feedback link - if enough of us suggested it, maybe they would do it?
