IF you havent heard of this USE IT --- ANY directory assitance call you need to make is FREE - yup FREE.

HOME OR CELL - it doesn't matter -- I have it programmed into my cell phone to save the dialing part --

1-800-FREE-411 --- (1-800-373-3411)

you will be asked city and state -- whether business or individual and then the name --

ALL you will hear is a VERY SHORT advertisement and then the number you requested - IF you cant be understood an operator will come on to help you out --

HOW CAN YOU BEAT "FREE" DIRECTORY ASSISTANCE ??? -- this is how --

USE IT - SAVE BIG BIG BUCKS

THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting this. I had no idea it was around. I used it for the first time and had to do the happy dance!!! I think that it is beyond RIDICULOUS that Cingular is charging $1.79 + taxes on 411 calls. And until now, what could a person do??? They had you!

My hubby has bee using this for months. Just remember when usuing your Cell that air time charges will be applied just not the extra for the 411 call.

Just one thing to add: You can use 1-800-Free411 to search by category now, too. This is in case you don't know the name of a specific listing. You can say "Restaurants," for example, and you can then search through the results for restaurants in your area. Makes it even easier.

Oh, and one more thing, for KristyT: 1-800-Free411 has live operators to assist you in case the voice recognition software doesn't work perfectly.

Google also has one for the cost of a text message, just send a text message to 466-45. Just include the name of the place you are looking for and the city and state. They answer back really quickly!! Its great for when you aren't at home, saves those outrageous 411 charges

I swear, I needed to tattoo this to the foreheads of my boss' son and husband. They do not have the capabilities of picking up a phone book and looking up a number...they had the direcotry assistance do it....and for almost $2 a pop, I was ready to pop THEM!!!!
