:( Hi, I am 35 yrs old and I feel like I am 100 with my aching back! It hurts severely in the lower part and off to the left side..it almost has a burning sensation with the hurt/ache. I have been to the doctor (awhile back) and they did xrays. He said that I had a herniated disc but it wasn't "that" bad to be causing me this much pain....and that he wasn't sure what it was exactly!
What my question is: Does anyone else have this (these symptoms or a bad back) and what is their home remedies for it when it really starts hurting?? Some mornings I feel as if I can't move! (it is getting unbearable!)

PS: I don't have insurance coverage at this moment so I am trying to "grin & bear it" until I am covered in two months!

Oh gosh, I am SO sorry! Back problems are the worst! My mom suffers from back problems, and I see what she goes through.

Have you tried the Ben Gay patches? I've used those in the past when I've had some back pain. If your pain is severe, I'm not sure how much they'd help though. Hopefully, the time will pass quickly until your insurance kicks in. I can relate to that one, I don't have insurance either. It truly is the pits!

I would be to your advantage to go to a chiropractor and get adjusted. Drink a lot of water to help lubricate the joints. Lay on the floor with your legs (at the knee) on the chair or couch....you'll look like an angled 2. Relax yourself and gravity will help you. put the phone next to you so you won't jump up and answer it.

There is nothing worse than back pain!! I hyperextended my back a year ago...I felt aweful!! These worked really well for me....

you may want to try some yoga stretching, espom salt baths, and hanging (?!) if you have a bar that will support you try hanging with your arms completely extended and let gravity stretch out your spine.

If you have a herniated disk, be careful, I use to have a back problems too, I had a wide brace made of elastic with velcro so you could adjust the tension on it, worked really well, you might of pulled a muscle in your back, or have a kidney infection? with your explaination of how it hurts to the one side, we really do not know the cause of your back problems, but rest helps wonders, and drink lots of water, hope you feel better soon!!

I HURT MY BACK (L1-L5) AT WORK ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO AND I ALSO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE ARE TIME WHEN I WILL BE STANDING AT THE SINK DOING THE DISHES AND I WILL MOVE AND IT WILL FEEL LIKE SOMEONE HAS TOSSED A FIREBALL AT MY BACK AND I GO DOWN TO THE FLOOR. MY DOCTOR PUT ME ON PAIN PILLS AND RELAXERS BUT THEY STILL DO NOT HELP. I HAD A FRIEND THAT SUGGESTED TO ME TO GO TO HER CHIROPRACTOR SO I GAVE IT A TRY AND IT HELPS. I ALSO ICE MY BACK TWICE A DAY (FOR 15 MIN) WHEN IT HURTS THE WORST AND I ALSO HAVE A PORTABLE TENS UNIT AT HOME FOR WHEN IT IS NEEDED. I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS AND THERE ARE DAYS THAT IT SEEMS LIKE IT JUST HAPPENED. I GUESS IT IS TRUE WHAT THEY SAY ONCE YOU HURT YOUR BACK IT IS NEVER THE SAME. I WOULD TRY A CHIROPRACTOR AND/OR ANOTHER DOCTOR...(TRY THE CHIROPRACTOR FIRST)... HANG IN THERE AND JUST REMEMBER THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT ARE IN WORST SHAPE THEN US....

I dont know about HErniated discs but if a chiropactor can help with one of those I recommend them. They can be scarry at first if you have never been but OMG they help. I was in a car accidnet when i was 5 months prego (everyone is fine) and I waited to see one until after the baby was born. The relife was instant. When i got preegnant again I continued to go and belive it or not it helped with the morning sickness and the pain. Might be worth a consult. My hubby suffers from back pain that brings him to tears and he cant move, he said the chiropractor is the only thing that has given him relife. Good luck.

Chiropractors will sometimes offer a free consultation & exam, and are honest enough to tell you if you need stronger intervention than they can offer. My darling hubby went to one, turned out he needed an L4-L5 spinal fusion. Which is done & he's halfway through his healing process. Until he could have his surgery, we alternated cold or heat packs as needed. Cheap cold pack - we bought a big bag of store brand frozen peas (peas because nobody in the house will eat it. Molds to what needs icing, just refreeze it when you're done. Use it until icky, eventually the peas just turn to mush. Want a cheap heat pack? Put some dry, uncooked long grain rice (the cheap stuff from the grocery store) in a clean sock. Fill it full, but not so full you can't mold it to your back. Stitch it closed. Don't get it wet. Run it in the microwave for 1 minute, if it's not warm enough 'wave it longer in 30 second increments. Be careful not to run it so long that you burn your skin or set the sock on fire... It will radiate moist warmth for 15 minutes or so. You can rewarm it as needed. If you need something bigger, make a little pillow with some old flannel or something. These will last for years if you're careful to store them in a dry place. You can add a bit of cinnamon stick if you want. They can also be made with field corn, be careful not to get seed corn - ask & make sure it hasn't been treated chemically with insecticides or anything. Corn bags smell kind of like popcorn when warmed. But they won't pop... Good luck! Be well!
