What could be scarier? Small plane, way high up in the air, jumping out of the small plane with little more than a backpack full of sting and fabric. Everyone who tries it says it is amazing...might be fun!

It really is an amazing experience... the only thing that freaked me out was the wait in the plane...makes you think of all the oh man...did i do this? but it is a rush you cannot compare with anything else!!:)

Skydiving is on the top of my list. Next is spelunking and SCUBA diving.

I went sky diving on my 6wk anniversary of a major surgery! It was by far the most amazing experience I have ever had that was just for me and me alone! So much so I jump every year to celebrate my life , my goals and my dreams.
If you dream it , you can do it! :)

Well, I know this for sure: if your parachute doesn't work, you'll only sky dive once.:p

LOL Teach! Too funny! Personally, sky diving isn't for me. I'd rather drive a race car.

I am not sure if I would try this or not. However, last year on vacation I went para sailing over the ocean to celebrate my 50th birthday. I had no idea or plan to do it and I can not swim. I just saw it being done and told my husband, let's do it, and we walked right over, signed up and did it. I LOVE it, and hope to do it again this year. So..........who knows, I may sky dive for my 60th.......I will make sure I am wearing depends..:D

I am definately not a thrill seeker, all of these things sound extreme to me. I think Bungee jumping would possibly give me a small heart attack!!

Someday I hope to tandem jump. They do it a couple times a year in our area to raise money for different charities. I believe it cost around $150 donation. Someday I will have the extra money and will get to try it!!

Oh my gosh! I have always thought it would be sooo much fun to try sky diving! I'll probably never do it, but I've always thought it sounded like fun. A guy I used to work with did it a few years ago for his birthday. It was his first time, so he had to do it tandem. They actually made a video of his sky dive and he brought it in and shared it with us. It looked like it was just an awesome experience.

Bungee jumping sounds fun too, but I'd probably end up with bungee cords that are too long. LOL

I think you should definitely try skydiving, at least once. I took my first jump when I was 41 years old. The freefall was okay, but once the parachute was open, the quietness and ability to look out over the world was GREAT!

I now have almost 400 jumps. I've done things while skydiving that most people will never be able to say that they have done.

Oh...and if you DO decide to try it, you must DEFINITELY get the video/pics. :D

I used to really want to do that when I was younger. At 50, I'm not sure it would work out. I would probably hurt my back or something equally as stupid.

I have gone skydiving twice!! I LOVE IT!! I was thinking of getting certified. I went once in Alabama and once in Hawaii. Of course Hawaii was better all around. In Alabama it was nice for my first time, but in Hawaii they do the flips out of the plane and everything! I love to scuba dive and that will one day be my job (I am working on it now actually!) but sky diving is definitaely something I suggest you do if your not afraid of being that high. The plane ride up is definiately what makes most people nervous but I am a very big dare devil type person, so I was not scared at all! I suggest for your first time to pay the extra money for the video of it. I still have mine and watch it quite often! Some places will even let you take a disposible camera with you, so take one just in case and ask!!

You should go, it is an amazing experience. I am hoping to go again next time I go to Hawaii since my boyfriend has never done it. Plus you get to see the n u d e beach when you do that jump! haha!!!;)

To those of you that have not gone, it is normal to tip your diver also, just so you know when you are trying to figure out pricing! Also I suggest asking if they just jump out of the plane or if they will do flips and such. It makes it WAY more fun!! Jumping straight out was ok for my first time, but I am a dare devil and got upset when he didn't do it after he asked me if I wanted to. If you are going to jump out of a plane you might as well do it in style and do the flips!!

So you must have done the tandem jump then right? I jumped by myself...no way am I going to flip myself out of the airplane, I can't even do a flip into a pool!!

Ya most places won't let you go by yourself for your first time. Most places require you to have jumped atleast 10-12 times to jump alone. Where did you jump at? I don't know if I would want to jump by myself for the first time.

It was in Suffolk, Virginia. I had to do a class right before the jump. Believe me...I didn't plan on jumping alone! There was a big group of us. All but one other person was doing tandem. They wouldn't let me do tandem bacause I weighed too much!!:o I was quite heavy at the time, and the jumpmaster weighed quite a bit too(He was about 6'3" and stocky, not fat) Our combined weight exceeded some type of limit. I wasn't about to be the only one not jumping-especially considering it was because I was too fat, not too scared! They p!ssed me off just enough to give me the balls to do it:eek: ;)

I didn't know that they would let you jump alone if you were over the "limit". I had to take a class too before I jumped in Alabama even though it was tandem. I bet it was fun though. I would jump alone now that I have done it a few times, but that would be more scary! When I jumped my first time I was under 100 lbs (wish I was still like that, that was about 5 years ago) and my guy didn't weight too much either. When we opened our parachute it took us forever to get down. My brother jumped at the same time as us and him and his guy got down, went back to the building and had undressed and were back out on the runway before we even came down! It was a somewhat windy day, and everytime the wind caught us it would take us up more. I told my guy that I thought we were supposed to go down not up! He just laughed. I think it ended up taking us about 15 minutes once my chute opened to get down low enough to even think about landing! It was so much fun though. Hawaii was fun because they did the flips and you could see a few of the other islands. Also you could see the reef and the lower we got the more we saw and it was amazing to see the turtles and dolphins from the air!

I bet it would be nice to jump where there are awesome surroundings. I wasn't even thinking about that at the time!
I was hooked from that first jump, but then had to start thinking more conservatively. I had a baby at the time, and everyone thought I was crazy to be taking chances. Shortly thereafter, I became a massage therapist. I can't even really risk just a slightly rough landing because it would jeopardize my work:rolleyes:
And then there's the cost....:(
Bummer!

Ya the cost and the risk are the main things that keep people from doing it. Money for me. Alabama didn't have nice surroundings, but it was still fun. I don't really have anything to lose with jumping besides my life. I am going to school to be a teacher. I guess if I was injured it could make me not be able to scuba dive, and I would die if that happened, but if you think about all the things that COULD go wrong, then you won't do it anyways. Atleast you did it already before you had all those risks with doing it.

I thought I would be scared as hell when I was in the plane, but really I wasn't scared at all. I have always been in a family that is crazy and does very dangerous things, but this is great. Even my mom did it. If your not up for REAL skydiving, do the indoor skydiving over the huge fan. That is a lot of fun too and you will not be so scared!

I went skydiving about 20 years, and many pounds, ago. :D

I did tight-line, not tandem, as it was the only offering. I was trying to conquer a fear of heights (it did not help) but it was wonderful! I was the 13th out of 13 (of my group that is) to "take the plunge" (not that I procrastinated the jump or anything...LOL)!

I was so worried about jumping that it did not occur to me to worry about the plane. I had not flown before (or since) and as the plane lifted off... I became more concerned with the dynamics of how/why the plane flew than with the impending jump! :p

But... the planes speed got up to where it had to be (and the altitude it needed to be) and the Jumpmaster told me it was time. I jumped, but not like we had been trained (and yes, we had rigorous training beforehand), I instead dove, like you would dive off a pool diving board! The static -line (attachment to plane) pulled my shoot open for me, and it was SO AWESOME from that point on. It was so beautiful, and so serene! I landed in a field... bit my tounge big time but otherwise was perfectly fine from the fast landing (one lady, the first jumper, broke her nose as she somehow brought her knee up and made contact when she hit).

The little nearby airport closed not long after that, or I would have jumped again. It was so awesome! I would love to go again some day... a tandem would be neat as they dive from a higher altitude (like 10,000 feet versus 4,000 I think). My baby sisters (both were under 10), older sister, and nephew (Cody, he was 3 then) watched and for the longest time you would ask Cody what he was going to do when he got big and he would say "Me and Aunt Kimmy are gonna jump outta airplanes"! :D

If it is a dream of yours... go for it! :D Find a good, safe, reputable company (do your homework) and have a ball!

Back when we jumped, there was no choice but to go by yourself... tandems were not offered at that airport at least. We had a several hour class before the jumps began, one particular part of the (physical) training I remember was jumping repeatedly from a platform! I do know I was bruised after the training as it was practicing landings and jumps. I had never heard of tandem until much after that, but must admit, due to the difference in elevation, tandem would be awesome as well! :) I honestly prayed constantly until that shoot open and then it was so awesome I was thankful to have had the opportunity. This was about 20 years ago and I think it cost $75.00 back then.

Normally the more people you have in your group the cheaper it is. I think we paid $125 each and we only had 4 people. In Hawaii it was only $75 for 4 people though. I would love to jump alone but I think I would like to do it a few more times tandem so I can enjoy it more before I have to worry about opening the shute and all that alone.

If you do a static line jump, you are jumping by yourself, but the chute will open for you at the correct elevation;)

I could hear my Jumpmaster via a radio set but couldn't talk back (I did talk to God a lot however)! ;)

Yes, the static line made it so much easier (mentally)... I remember vividly counting backwards outloud as they had trained us to do (I think it was 7 seconds), and preparing to pull my secondary cord if the static line connection didn't open my chute. :)

I loved my one skydiving excursion and (with new knees and some weight loss) would do a tandem jump! I also think base jumping and parasailing both look awesome, but you couldn't hardly pay me enough to ever contemplate bungee jumping!

My husband and I went skydiving last summer and I have to say that it was the most exilerating thing that I have ever done!!! We went in Las Vegas and did a tandum jump- we actually just watched our videos last night- the instructor that we were attached to had a tiny camera attached to his wrist and filmed the whole way down!!! Since I was the smallest,I was the first in our group to go and that meant that I had to literally hang out of the door way for about 2 minutes while my instructor let everyone know how close we were to being over the landing zone- since he was sitting on the edge of the doorway this meant that I was actually hanging out the side of the door:confused: It was crazy- but I would do it again anytime!!!!
