Let's start this new section off by talking about what kind of car or truck you drive and what you like - or don't like - about it...

I drive a black Chevy Trailbazer which has 4 wheel drive, I live in Big Bear Lake, Ca, where the elevation is 6,700 ft. so we do get snow in the winter, 4 wheel drive comes in handy for this situation. I love this car, it has every bell and whistle on it, complete with heated seats, temperature and compass, and yes I do get lost, lol but all in all this car is great, and can haul alot of shopping! I would buy another one in a heartbeat.

I drive a Hyundai Sante Fe. I love it! It has a moonroof and monsoon stereo. We got rid of the van we had and it was a wise choice. Great for hauling kids and dogs.

Nothing right now, because as soon as my husband brings home a car for me, all 4 wheels seem to fall off the second I look at it.
He brought me home a great dark green mini-van. He test drove it and it ran like a charm. I never even got past "wow, does it have a radio?" before it was over-heating on me.
His mother gave me a gorgeous blue-grey BMW with a sunroof. I thought "Wow, I'm riding in style now!" (a bit like wearing a mink coat with sneakers in my case, but who am I to complain) ... I had it 3 days before we realized there is a short somewhere in the dash, draining the battery. This means the car *might* start, if you run out there and start it up every 2 1/2 hours and let it run for a few minutes. If you have to sleep, well forget it, then the car won't start without a jump (which requires removing the entire back seat). The car also secretly thinks it's an oven, and blasts extremely hot air on your feet the entire time you're driving. While this may be handy if you live in Alaska, alas, I live in Florida. If and when I drive it, I have to hang my head out the window and pant- but on the plus side, I can bake muffins and drive at the same time.

You are a riot, thanks for the laugh, this brings back memories of the time I bought a car off the lot because it was on the turn style out in front of the dealership, it looked so pretty going around in circles up in the air, well I bought that baby and as soon as I was about a mile down the road it died and never recovered, it was down hill from there.....thanks for the memories!
Nice to know I am not the only one who had car troubles!

You're a hoot; very descriptive; have you ever thought about writing? I do, and have a monthly column which is free to anyone who wants to read it. My humor borders on complex insanity...a bit of levity in this crazy world.
As an English teacher, your account is vivid and leaves nothing to wonder about.

I have a 2004 Toyota Camry. I really love it and it is so big and roomy and also has a huge trunk.
The only things that bother me are that the driver's side window rattles a little bit sometimes when the window is all the way up and where the radio/clock is, it squeaks/rattles a little bit due to friction. Other than that, my car has been great. I do wish it got better gas mileage though - I currently average 23.5 mpg.

I drive a yellow 2005 Chevy Cavalier- that's the last year that they made them. Mine is a 2 door with a spoiler. It is a nice car, I don't know why they changed it to the Cobalt- I don't think they look nearly as nice. (No offense to anyone that has one of those).
I used to have a black 1996 Mitsubishi eclipse turbo. Sweet ride- paying for premium gas because of the turbo sure wasn't too nice though. Trying to keep a black car looking nice and clean was no picnic either.

I know what you're talking about in regards to trying to keep a black car clean. I used to have a white car, and I think that was almost as bad as black. My car is silver and I love that the dirt doesn't show until it gets really, really dirty! :D I'll have silver from here on out as long as I have that option.

Talking about the color of cars in this thread... when my husband and I first got married, all we had to drive was an old '73 Pinto and it was ORANGE. The funniest thing, was that people with other orange cars would wave at us, as if we shared some sort of special orange car bond! :p

I have a 2003 Jeep Liberty. I love the aesthetics, of course. I also love the fact that it sits high off the ground, and that it's rugged. I frequent a McDonald's here, and every once in awhile, I get blocked in by the drive-thru crowd (Why won't they let people out? It's something I do not understand). With my Jeep, I can just drive over the curb and into the parking lot of the business next door--no problem. It's also small enough for me to zip around, but large enough for me not to feel like an ant among giants on the expressway.
I don't particularly care for the gas mileage, and when one or both of the back windows are rolled down, the wind blowing through the car makes some kind of loud, weird helicopter noise. The first time it happened, I thought there was something wrong with my Jeep!

mom2fussbudgets your mcdonalds comment is so funny. I was in town earlier today and my daughter was yelling about being hungry well taco bell is right next to mcyd's I slipped and pulled in to taco bell and looked hard at the curb and small patch of grass seperating the two. I drive an old berretta and wondered if I'd make it over the first hump then I thought better not do that. If I had your ride I probably would have avoided the traffic and jumped across the lots. The ground is good and dry.LOL! :D

My car is a 2002 Hyundai Accent. Not a very high profile car and, to be honest, I was rather embarrassed when I first got it. I'm a truck-girl at heart and after I totaled my 2002 Ranger in '03, the Accent was all I could afford - talk about humbling!
But since then, of course, gas prices have sky-rocketed and I'm better off - both in that department and the monthly payments. But it's still gut wrenching when I pull up to a stop sign and am subsequently left in the dust by whatever happens to be idling next to me (basically anything and everything with something bigger than my 4-banger engine!) :p

I drive a 1991 Ford pickup truck. Originally green but red primer showing through! On the plus side--you can leave the keys in it and nobody steals it. On the negative side- mileage is awful. But I haven't had a car payment in 15 years so I feel ahead of the game. I don't care what my vehicle looks like as long as it gets me there and back safely.

;) I drive a '90 Black/red Camaro Rs. It is a fun car to drive but not very "motherly"! I also have a '84 Ford Bronco II that I drive in the winter...it is an older one but I am only the 2nd owner on it and it had been very well taken care of. I am hoping that in the near future I can trade one of them in and get a nice newer car that does great on gas! These gas prices are killing me!:(

I had a Volvo XC90 and I LOVED IT!!!
DH decided we needed something more family friendly..... (needed a 3rd row of seats).
So I got a new GMC Acadia about 2 months ago. I work for a company that I get pretty good discounts on both the Volvo and GM products.
Both are/were great vehicles. Great on saftey. The Acadia feels like you're on a magic carpet...smooth. :)
Love them both.

we have an '04 Pontiac Grand Am(love that car), a 1993 Chevy Caprice and an '03 Chevy Astro Van. It took a while for the van to grow on me...man, I hated that thing. It strongly resembles driving a Sherman Tank. Actually, I think the tank might have a better turning radius. But I am on the verge of loving it now. It is amazing how people in tiny little rollerskates who don't want to let you into traffic tend to get out of your way when you are driving a beast like that(I dont know if it is the tires or what, but it sits quite high compared to other Astros I have seen). No...I don't go around cutting people off just because I am bigger. I live in a crappy traffic area and when you go to merge or change lanes, people seem to want to close the gap so you can't get in. But, I digress. Another point I like about it is the fact that I can fit quite an impressive stereo in it if I so desire. The '02 Sunfire my husband traded in for the van(we had a third child last March and needless to say, 2 adults and 3 kids just would not fit in that car) had the best stock stereo I have seen in a while. Out of all the vehicles we have owned, though, I liked my '90 Geo Storm the best. It was a standard(driving it always gave me the illusion of being in NASCAR..heehee) and for a 4 banger, it sure did have a lot of boot and scoot. That car could haul some significant butt(not like I would know...wink wink). It was very reliable as well. Had over 200K on it and still ran like a charm. unfortunately, the motor outlasted the body. Upstate NY will do that to you, I guess.

I drive an '04 Toyota Sienna Mini-van, 8 passenger. With six kids, we needed the biggest they had! We tried a Suburban, but about the time we bought our van, gas prices started to really climb. I think they were $2.50 a gallon then. I'm really glad we have it now getting 20 miles to the gal in town.
My dream car (which I'll never own) is a '57 Ford Thunderbird, pink with white leather interior, removable hardtop, and a continental tire on back! Oh, and it only seats two people, so I wouldn't have toys all over the car!! It would also eliminate a lot of "are we there yet" from the back!

Both of those are great minivans. I have the Sienna and love it, but wouldn't have hesitated buying the Odyssey if they had an 8 passenger out when we bought our Sienna. I know a lot of people that drive both, and I think they are very similar in what they offer. I have heard that Honda does have better deals though!! Good luck and enjoy whatever you get!! :)

I have a Black BMW 325i....not so fancy though....my driver side windows do not go up or down (not a problem in the winter but in the summer...easy bake oven is a great term for it) I also don't have air --- no, I mean COLD air in the summer and HOT air in the winter, at least the heated seats do work. I have a dark green 2000 Ford Expedition. Hubby has a Mitsubishi 3000gt. Unfortunately, when I say the hubby has the 3000gt, I don't get to say that it runs. He tore up something in the motor and decided he was going to change up the whole car...that was over a year ago. So, I bought him a second 3000gt for parts that is now in pieces in our yard. His car is still sitting out there with no work done to it, but he has to drive from Georgia to Louisianna every 2 weeks for work, so he takes my Expedition, leaving me with my father-in-laws Jeep Cherokee which sounds like it has a tin can rattling around somewhere and no a/c. To top things off, the hubby decides he's going to change things on my Expedition, so he put in a dual exhaust which made it sound like a loud motorcycle going down the road..kinda cool, but I never get the chance to hear it...lol Love my car and my hubby...just never get to see either one of them!!

I had a trailblazer... but a teenager ran a red light hit me and totalled it and her car. I LOVED MY TRAILBLAZER! Everything about it was perfect, the color, the ride... everything. Afterwards, hubby and I bought a 2004 Chevy Impala. I don't really like it because it's not as roomy and I feel small on the road. But, it is good on gas, and I'm about to be driving 90 miles a day for school so having this car will be a help during those months.
Hubby drives a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder. It was a "freebie" from his parents. It wasn't running and had been sitting in their yard for several months. They said if we fixed it, it was ours. It just needed a new battery and a radiator hose. It's been fine!! But, my hubby is 6'7 and this car has no head room for him.
We'd like to buy a Chevy Avalanche when I'm finished with school. :)

I have a 1992 Buick Century with only 33,000 miles on it. It literally belonged to two little old ladies; my husband's aunt and then his Mom. His Mom stopped driving and my husband asked to buy the car, but she gave it to us instead, which was very nice of her. My husband drives a 1992 Ford Ranger, but he really only drives it to and and from work so an older truck suits his purposes. Love not having a car note.

Can't wait to use the 4WD this coming winter! I was tired of sliding all over the road in the conversion van.

Up untill 2 months ago I drove a 98 Chrysler Concorde, gets about 30 miles to a gallon which my hubby drives to work, cos he does'nt get but 12 miles to a gal in his 2007 HD Chevrolet Truck, but it broke down on him one morning on the way to work, (4 AM) so he got ****ed and we went Car shopping, I drove home in a new 2007 Tahoe (15 miles a gal), well he took the old car to a mechanic and was just a minor repair, $150, I laugh at him now and tell him it really cost him $45,000 to get it fixed, and all i need is something to get me to Wal-Mart and back. The Grand-sons refuse to ride in the car now, we have named it the Hooptie, they love the new dual DVD players, and the fact they are not riding on the ground anymore. I love it too, cos I don't have to listen to them say "How much longer, is it gonna be before we get there?", it has really kept them quiet.

I drive a black 2005 Mercedes C230. It is the first new car I have ever owned. My husband got it for me on Valentines day 2005. I love it cause it is fast but I don't love it cause it is fast :)
It is easy to get in trouble with a car that doesn't get loud or shakey when you are going fast.
I saw that someone on this string has my dream car, a 70's model Corvette. My favorite is the 1980 body style. Gotta wait till the kids are grown for that one!

We just traded my 2003 Nissan Pathfinder (LOVED it!) for a 2004 Nissan Quest mini-van. We just had our first baby Christmas Eve, and with strollers, bouncy seats, diaper bags, car seats, etc . . . the wider doors are great! Plus, it is leather inside, and has an automatic door, the back opens automatically, and the seats are heated!
Love the fact that we can now take more than one passenger with us when we go to dinner, etc. :)
Only 18 mpg on average though . . . .
Always swore I'd NEVER have a mini-van, but now I can't live without it - love it!

My husband has a new 2007 Dodge 'HEMI' ofcourse and I have a 2004 dodge pick up , too. I will be buying a new Dodge Nitro (new suv from dodge), in October for my birthday.
When my 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee broke down the dealer let me rent a Dodge Nitro. I hated the thing. The mirrors are so big and because I'm so short they were level with my head so it was hard to see around them. I wouldn't recommend this car to short people.

You are driving a 1988-1994 BMW 735 ?

I also love it because I do not have to carry complete coverage on it because it technically is a totaled car...Got hail damage in the annual summer hail storm two years ago. It runs GREAT!! Just looks like it has a bad case of cellulite. :o
Dream car.... Call me practical, I would Love something that would give my son a little more leg room in his car seat, and have a middle back seat shoulder belt. My middle back only has a lap belt so I bought a forward facing car seat with straps that fits a taller child, but if I had a middle shoulder strap I could move him into a booster and he would have more leg room. I like the Toyota Camery or Honda Accord, But NOT too new that I would need complete coverage.

$100 fill-up coming to pump near you
Friday November 16, 6:00 am ET
Terry Jackson
With speculators running up the price of a barrel of oil to the $100 range, there can be little doubt that the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline is headed for $3.50, and maybe even $4, before there's any sort of fallback.
While such price hikes will increase the pressure on new vehicle buyers to look for more fuel-efficient vehicles, there's a real sticker shock awaiting those who need or want a big sport utility vehicle or pickup truck.
Those vehicles are among the thirstiest gas-guzzlers, delivering an average of 14 to16 miles per gallon in combined city-highway driving if a driver is judicious with the gas pedal.
The real shock for drivers of these automobiles will come when the tank approaches empty and it's time to fill up. Because they burn a lot of fuel, these vehicles have larger gas tanks, which can mean that the final total on the gas pump can be frightening.
How frightening? How about $100 per fill-up?
At $3.50 a gallon, getting change from a Ben Franklin is not likely to happen very often. And on some vehicles, it will cost more than $100 to fill up.
Here's a list of some of the biggest budget busters on the market, including tank size and how much it costs to fill an empty tank at $3.50 a gallon:
Fill 'er up
Make and model Tank size Cost
Chrysler Aspen SUV 27 gallons $94.50
Ford Expedition SUV 28 gallons $98.00
Infiniti QX56 SUV 28 gallons $98.00
Cadillac Escalade ESV SUV 31 gallons $108.50
Chevrolet Suburban SUV 31 gallons $108.50
Chevrolet Avalanche SUV 31 gallons $108.50
Hummer H2 SUV 32 gallons $112.00
Ford Expedition EL SUV 33.5 gallons $117.25
Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD pickup 34 gallons $119.00
Dodge Ram 2500 pickup 35 gallons $122.50
Nissan Titan pickup 37 gallons $129.50
Ford F250 Super Duty pickup 38 gallons $133.00
Of course, as the price of gasoline rises, owners of more economical vehicles like the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry will also get wallet shock. Both cars come with 18.5-gallon gas tanks that would cost $64.75 for a fill-up.
We all need to drive, and while the ultimate measure of economy is the number of miles that can be squeezed from a gallon of fuel, it's worth considering what you're likely to be spending when that tank runs dry and to factor it into your budget.

What an awesome car. I would definately recommend THAT to anyone looking for a new SUV. I cant believe the pick up it has. What a quick little car, and real cute too. the one we had was fully loaded and ran about $33,000. More than a jeep----who can figure that one.

Some mechanics advise against running with only a few bucks' worth in the tank all of the time, too. Increased chance for condensation, and other issues they say if you don't fill it up.

:( Not filling up is hard on the fuel pump and a new one can cost mega bucks plus installation . Is better to fill up and then keep it full by add ing the 20 or 30 bucks aweek .Little known fact:the bottom half of the fuel tank is smaller than the top and the fuel pump cannot get all the gas out of the tank so is sucking air and so vapor locks the motor causing it to die.My Tahoe is not fuel efficient either! I NEVER fill it up. I go the 20-30 dollar at a time route! lol

I drive a 1997 Pontiac Bonneville with 130,000+ on it! DH has a 1993 Pontiac Bonneville (my hand me down) with 170,000+ on it!
I have three and a half more years of college, then will need to find a job, before a "new" (which always translates to used for us) car is even a remote possibility! :)
When I bought the 1993 (in 1996), we retired a 1979 Malibu, and when I got the 1997 in 2000, hubby retired his (yes he drove it daily) 1963 Chevy Pickup!
We drive our vehicles forever! :D Thankfully, DH is a mechanic, and (unless it is a major electrical type problem, which one Bonneville has had) he performs all services like clockwork and repairs them as needed!

I used to drive a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo. I loved it, it had 4 wheel drive and low and high gears for that, It had over 160,000 miles on it when my hubby got me a different, new to me, car. He still drives the Rodeo, so if I need it in the snow, it will be here. We had to put in a new a/c and a new fan on the motor, they don't make the fan anymore, so it was an after factory one, whatever that means... so it is loud now, it roars down the road. It got sucky gas mileage most ever was 20mpg.
I now drive a 2005 Chevy Equinox. I absolutely love it. It drives so smooth, not like a truck like the Rodeo did. It is all wheel drive and I haven't had any problems with it yet. It gets better gas mileage than the Rodeo did but I still have to fill up once a week and it cost me about $45. I drive 22 miles each way to work every day.

i just need to take it in for a tune up i think, no matter how much it costs. It is worth more to me than to trade it in for a new vehicle. i have no car payment right now, i have liability on it and putting 300 dollars on it is small cookies compared to a 300 a month car payment

I'm in a soccer mom Ford Explorer right now. I started out in a Cougar when I was 16 - but got the taste of an SUV and have had this one since 2002. It's nice, but I definately wouldn't buy from the Ford dealer again, probably not even a Ford. The transmission went out at around 60,000 miles, we then found out that when we bought the car as 'new' from the dealer, the owner's wife had driven the car for about 200 miles and had been in an accident with it - nice to find this out 2 years after buying the car! Then at 80,000 miles, the engine went out - again, no help from Ford. So now, I've got an explorer with 110k miles with a new engine, new transmission, new wheel hub assemblies (found out when I was getting new tires in Nov. that both front wheels could have fallen off at any moment - they probably exaggerated a bit, but still scary!) but less $ in my pocket!
I did see my friend's mom's Scion SUV this weekend - that car is NICE! I don't know what it's called, I may look into that...
I just can't see myself in a minivan anytime soon, no kids yet, but I think that I'll stick with an SUV when that time comes - do you think a minivan would be eaiser for some reason?
My DH has a Dodge 2500 diesel 4x4 - he just put a 5 inch lift on and new wheels and tires so now I really need the steps he installed for me :)

Hey! I own a Ford...I just got a Mustang a few weeks ago...it's a 1996, but it runs good for the age. I only paid $2500 for it on a previously owned lot. I did a carfax on it and it's never been in a wreck. We had to replace the thermostat and oxygen sensor and have to get new struts and shocks for it. But the worth of it (according to kbb) is over $4000...so to have to put about $200 into it after paying less than book for it...I'm not complaining. Before that I owned a mini-van and hated it. I have 3 kids and hubby has the family vehicle this time around...he bought a used 1996 Jeep Cherokee.

My boyfriend used to have a 2003 Lincoln LS, he had the same problem with the motor. At 50,000 miles (when the factory warranty ran out, of course) the motor started giving him trouble. The car would sputter and sometimes the motor would cut off. He got that car fixed, sold it, and invested in a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe which is much nicer. I will never own a Ford, Lincoln, or Mazda, or anything else that Ford manufactures because of that reason!

i had my astrovan tuned up today, holy cow theres so much to be done to it
and it costed over 700 bucks to do it AND the kicker is, this is just because its old, not the reason the check engine light is on
and it leaks brake fluid

Jennie232323 - Do yourself a favor and don't get a minivan. Had one for 5 yrs and absolutely hated the thing. It was a Ford Windstar but should have been called the Sh*tstar, trans was going, brakes didn't last a year, new tires after a year. A gas guzzling piece of crap....I had a SUV before that and have gone back to the SUV again. I will never drive a minivan again. Also, the minivan is the biggest pain to keep clean.....

We have a Yamaha motorcycle. I love it too! I want to learn to ride (drive) but hubby doesn't think it's a good idea. I work about 25 miles from home. It adds up quick!

Wow, you must have had an imitation Chevy! My Silverado has almost 190,000 miles and has had only minor repairs. She looks terrible (Cause I was stupid and let the kids drive her), but mechanically she's probably got another 100,000 miles in her. You have to try really hard to kill a Chevy truck. But! I won't knock Fords, my oldest boy has a Ford F150 that he's had forever (I think it'd a 1996) and hasn't had any major problems either. As long as you do routine maintenance, I think both of these trucks will last a long time.

Haha, that's pretty funny. I think the yaris is like half and half. Some people love it, some hate it. It grew on me. At first i was like what the hell is that, and then I did a little research, and found it's a really good car! My boyfriend owns three toyotas, one of which is a 93 and has over 300,000 miles! They are really reliable..

I drive a 2004 Dodge SRT-4 (it is the neon with the turbo charged engine and the body kit already on it), I think my boyfriend likes driving it more cause its fast, I just like it cause I have a system and it is a stick shift! My boyfriend has a 1999 323 convertible BMW, which I will drive sometimes. He just put his rims back on so he can try to sell it, so I guess I won't be driving it anymore. He pays way to much for it, so we need to get rid of it to help pay for everything and save for our house!!

I probably drive the oldest car of any of y'all---a 1991 Volvo 240, yes, it's one of the cute old square ones! I bought it after surviving a car crash Aug. 1991 with a drunk driver..and 4 months later when I was finally able to go back to work I got that. I wanted something that could roll 3 times and get up and drive away! :)

A 2006 red Toyota Sienna mini-van, which I love because there's lots of room for our 2 big dog-kids. And room to roll out the sleeping bags & sleep back there, for the times we take a "day trip" & then on the spur-of-the-moment decide to stay overnight where ever we end up. Hey, when you're retired & 70 yrs old you can decide to not go home at night :)
Hubby drives 2001 Toyota Tundra p/u... good for hauling things, including our travel trailer when we plan ahead to not come home for awhile :) :)

I got the new on the market this year Jeep Patriot. I love this thing. Great on gas mileage. We took it from Missouri to Florida on vacation with 2 adults and 3 kids. The kids were all comfy. The only downfall to this was there was not a whole lot of cargo room for every bodies luggage although we managed quite well. I should have looked into getting one of those luggage things for the top. Especially with all the little trinkets we came back with. LOL But overall I would do it again. But I miss miss miss my Chevy Venture Van they have ALOT of room.:)
