WHAT WAS THE STRANGEST, UGLIEST OR "WHAT ON EARTH IS THIS THING?" GIFT YOU RECEIVED AT YOUR WEDDING SHOWER (S)?
My aunt gave me one of my showers back in '76. When all the other gifts were opened a 3ft x 3ft box was placed in front of me. "What on earth did I register for that is THIS big?" I thought. When i opened it it was filled with foam popcorn but sticking out was a brass ring...I start pulling on it. Attached was a macrame' line made out of that unfinished rope type stuff. Then in the middle was a ceramic lamp shade finished in a streaky light lime green w/cut outs in the shape of leaves. Then the rope line split into 4 lines to hold a 2ft diam. planter in the same color. Underneith it all, the tassels (total legnth? apx. 4ft.). "oh how lovely! I know just where i'm going to put it & what i'm going to plant in it! TY!" I exclaimed in a straight face.
Later when my cousin (brides maid) & my best friend (maid of honor) & I were walking in the garden I asked...."What on earth am I going to do with that green monstrosity?" they both started laughing then my best friend said "Oh thank heavens! I thought you had lost your mind!"
