Children’s Hooded Sweatshirts with Drawstrings Recalled by C-Mrk Inc. Due to Strangulation Hazard
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: Boys’ Hooded Sweatshirts
Units: About 725
Distributer: C-Mrk Inc., of Vernon, Calif.
Hazard: The hooded sweatshirts have a drawstring through the hood which can pose a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines (http://www.cpsc.gov/CPSCPUB/PUBS/208.pdf) (pdf) to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets or sweatshirts.
Incidents/Injuries: None reported.
Description: The boys’ hooded sweatshirts have the brand name Ocean Current and RN#67225 number in the neck label. The garments were sold in the color smoke and in sizes S-XL.
Sold at: Macy’s department stores in Southern California from December 2008 through April 2009 for about $35.
Manufactured in: China
Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings from the sweatshirts to eliminate the hazard, or return the garment to either the place of purchase or to C-Mrk for a full refund.
