Hello folks, new to this site. First time poster. I was reading earlier in one of
the postings about a product called Terro ant liquid. I'm guessing that this has
taken the place of the old Kelloggs ant paste. My question is this. Is this product safe to use around dogs and cats? I don't want to kill anyone's pet.
Anyone that can shed some light on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Jim Geary.

Welcome to the site! Hope that you find some useful stuff here!
Terro Ant Killer is basically just borax in a clear sweet liquid like runny corn syrup that attracts the ants, so it's pretty safe for humans and pets. We use it with dogs and cats about, and there's never been a problem. Here's the blurb direct from their question and answer page as to human and pet safety:
Q: I accidentally stepped on one of the ant traps. How toxic is this bait and will this exposure harm me? What if my cat or dog gets into the bait and eats some?
A: TERRO® Liquid Ant Bait is a sweet food based product similar to pancake syrup combined with Borax. Borax is a mineral that is mined in the desert in California and is a common active ingredient that is used in soap
products such as 20 Mule Team Borax.
The product kills ants but will not harm people or pets. If you spill some
on your skin there will be no reaction at all. Simply wash with warm water.
Pets occasionally find the Terro and eat it. Our advice when this happens
is to do nothing at all. The product is not toxic enough to cause a problem and the pet will be just fine.

I have used 20 Muleteam Borax with sugar mixture on sugar ants and it worked wonders. Only had to use one time and ants were gone. I soaked cotton balls in the mixture then placed them along the ant trails. Hope this helps!:)

Hi Jim, welcome!!
Years ago my husband used to spray around the parameter of our house for ants. He heard from a friend who is a retired exterminator, that instead of using those costly and toxic sprays, there is an easier way to rid yourself from ants.
Dig a trench about 6 feet long by 3 inches wide and deep away from your house, say 10 feet or so, or in any inconspicuous space. Buy a cheap brand of maple syrup and pour it into the trench until it fills 2/3 of the way. Then sprinkle cornmeal on top of the syrup. DO NOT cover the trench!! Wallah... no more ants!!!
The ants smell the sweetness of the syrup and go for the trench. They cannot digest the cornmeal so are stuck in the trench and die.
We've used this method here in the high desert for years, and it works for us!
Good luck!!
Hugs,
Mae

No not yet. Soon though. Ants have spread to kitchen. Will be leaving soon
to pick up Boraxo or Tezzo. Thanks to everyone. Jim.
Will post results as soon as I have put some down.

I LOVE Terro ant killer. They are the only bates that work for slab ants, that I have found. We have placed the ant bates outside and the animals leave them alone. I have cats, so if I place the traps inside, I place them where the cats can't get to them.

I haven't heard of this product before, but I know if you want a "natural" way to get rid of ants to use cayenne pepper. It works great.
