Anyone else having this problem????? Started about 6 months ago for me - I go several days at a time with only a few hours / or no sleep at night...last night being one of them! Nothing has helped. OTC drugs, the 2 new presciptions on the market....I look like warmed over death today and feel like it too. I have got to get better sleep!! HELP!!

Try not to drink caffee (coffee, Tea, etc) and take a nice hot bath and get a special aroma for relaxation candle (don't remember the name).

Good Luck.

I also have trouble sleeping too.

I go through the same phases too. Some days no sleep then others I can sleep for 20 hours. I have OTc meds and nothing helps. I drink no caffeine after 4 in the afternoon and it doesn't make a difference. I'd love to be able to take a nice relaxing bath but we only have a shower in our place. I've tried reading and nothing. I just deal with it.

I am trying to just deal with it...but on days like today - I need my energy, don't have it - so I get "energy drinks" to combat the fatigue, which causes even less sleep later. Lesser of two evils I guess?

Just wanted to see if anyone has had this issue and has success dealing with it!

Welcome to the club, lol I have had trouble sleeping for years, it has gotten a bit better over the years but I never sleep all night, and get maybe 6-7 hours hours of sleep, but get up to go to the bathroom a couple of times, I can't even remember the last time I slept all night! It is very frustrating, I use to get up at all hours of the night and just be wide awake and could not go back to bed, grrrrr, now I force myself to stay in bed most of the time....then I end up taking a cat nap at 5 in the evening....a vicious circle! A couple of years ago, right after I had my knee replaced I had the worse time sleeping and the doc wrote me a subscription for sleeping pills, ambien, anyways I still have all 30 pills, lol I just could never get the nerve up to take one of those, lol

Worked off shifts and long shifts for over two decades. Some times, it just doesn't matter what you do, you just can't sleep.

One friend swears by valerian. I bought an entire case of fresh Alvita herbal teas for pittance at an auction. He hopped on the Valerian Peppermint boxes right away. He says he goes right to sleep and sleeps like a baby when he drinks it.

Another friend swears by melatonin. It's suppose to help you sleep if you take it right before bedtime. I tried it for several months when they changed my shift from third to first--it was very hard for me to sleep at night after years on third. It seemed to help me, but it didn't help my husband.

Usually pretty lucky myself--I can sleep in broad daylight when I work straight nights. My husband goes with blackout curtains, total darkness, and absolutely no noise. Difficult to achieve with a household and toddler :(

When I worked alternating 2-2-3-2-2-3 with fifteen hour nights starting at 6:00 p.m. for a year and a half up until this past spring, nothing helped. It's just a wretched schedule, and you are never on nights or days for longer than three days in a row, so you never adjust. Excedrin PM, Benadryl, and other things helped, but still couldn't do the job some days/nights. Plus, you have the dried out thing going on in your nasal passages from the sleep aid--YUCK!

I got a bottle of valarian root - I had some in Yogi Teas' "goodnight" that worked pretty well - if you can get past the smell (sweaty feet - I swear!!) It seems like I build up a tolerance to these things fairly quickly. They will work for a few weeks - then back to pinning my eyeballs open with tooth picks during the day!!!

Start exercising regularly, and your insomnia will be finished! I sleep the entire night through every night, but I sleep especially well on the days that I weight train. Weight training really kicks my behiney! When bedtime rolls around, I am asleep within minutes.

LOL---- I should really start lifting again anways - gravity is taking over - and if it will help me sleep...BONUS! I guess it is a good thing my hubby is putting a weight room in our new place :)

The main cause of insomnia is due to stress........Your concerns may make your mind too active, making it hard to relax.....Try not to drink coffe, tea and cola....I have heard that herbal supplements also sometimes create sleep problems, it boosts your energy but keeps you awake.......Start doing yoga....I think yoga will surely help you.......:)

I have bad insomnia. I have tried Lunesta, Ambien, Ambien CR, Sonata. They do not seem to work well. It is like they will the first night and then after then I am like immune to it. I have been like this since the birth of my 14 month old. I go to bed around 3 or 4am and get up around 8am. I used to could sleep all night and all day. My mom on the other hand has trouble staying awake.

I will tell you how Ambien will make you feel.....if you do not go ahead and lay down you will suddenly feel drunk. I mean stumbling drunk. LOL

I have cut my caffeine intake by half and won't allow myself any at all after noon. I do some Yoga stretches, but no inverted poses - too much blood to my brain & it'll be running in high gear all night, then some Tai Chi and ending with calming breaths. If I've had a particularly ugly and stressful day, I'll take some Calms Forte: 1 about half an hour before bed, 2 more just before bed. Calms Forte is a homeopathic remedy, the dose is 3. It doesn't make make me sleep, I don't feel drunk, if I need to wake immediately for a child / nature's call / etc I can & then drop right back to sleep. And I don't feel like my brain is stuffed with lint the next morning. I've tried melatonin, it did help me to sleep but it was very restless and filled with nightmares. Wreaked havoc with my depression as well. Be careful with anything like this, particularly if you're on any prescribed medications - best to check with your doctor & pharmacist. Good luck, and I'll pray you get some good rest soon. Insomnia is a tough one to deal with.

alot of time sleep apnea can cause alot of sleepless nights, much like insomnia. you might want to see about a sleep test.

its true that ambien can have a drunkness feeling but there are more gentle rx sleep aides on the market like sonata. and it does not have a hangover effect like ambien does.

the most important thing you can do is go have a sleep study done. they will monitor your brain waves, many muscles, your heart, ect. its alot but its also alot of good information for your doctor to truely get a good picture at what is going on. there are hundreds of diffrent sleeping disorders. and they can help you with almost all of them. If its starting to ruin your life I think it might be worth your time to do a study,

I looked that up because I had never heard of it, so here is what it is...lol too bad I don't swallow pills.....I chew them, this is a capsule, so that would be a no no, good that it is working for you!

I found out about Valerian root when I tried Yogi Tea's Goodnight blend - it has valerian root in it and it seemed to help, then it stopped helping. But since I have been taking valerian every day now - I am sleeping better, not a full night, but at least 6 hours!

it sounds like you are busy, but if you can fit it in, excerise helps. it wears you out, but also does something with your brain chemicals to help you sleep better later. i also have sleeping problems. otc meds stopped working for me...ambien is good for falling asleep, but does not help you stay asleep at all. you could go to the doctor and talk to them and ask for a sample and then if you dont like it, you dont have to take it again.

side note- from what i've learned and experienced, sleeping pills are not addictive. what is addictive is the result of taking them. you wake up feeling good...try not taking them and you have trouble sleeping again...etc.

I use ambien...very cautiously though. I only use it if I really really need it and never two nights in a row. That stuff is powerful stuff...and kind of scary.

I have tried almost everything for insomnia....herbals, all Ambien types/doses, Rozerem, Lunesta, Ativan, Concerta and a few more...... I took my first Restoril tonight with no results. Anyone take this and know if a higher dose will help. I was only started on 7.5mg. Thanks!

My hubby seems to have insomnia too. I swear he has to have sleep apnea too. It first freaked me out on our plane trip to Vegas for our honeymoon. He just stopped breathing!! Then he took a deep breath in and was fine. It still freaks me out! I just bought him the Simply Sleep stuff from Tylenol PM. He's just all out of whack right now since he's always worked 3rd shift and has a job now working 1st shift.

Just wondering too......has anyone ever seen a doctor about their insomnia? I've read/heard several places that it could be a symptom of an underlying problem (heart problems, etc).

Some of "my" sleep problems I can blame on my love for my dear hubby. I worry excessively about him(-and my kids).
My hubby has High Blood Pressure, and sleep apnea, and is overweight, and is totally stressed out all the time.
When he goes to bed, he "snores" pretty loud, and like, fast breathing. He twitches alot. Drives me insane. The twitching is an underlying problem...I know....we're trying to find it out- but his Dr. dropped out of sight, and just up and QUIT being a dr. so now we have to find a new one.
Anyways.....I wake up several times throughout the night, to nudge my hubby to "make him take breath". His snoring for 25 yrs had always driven me crazy-keeping me awake due to the noise. I've thought about getting him the "nose strips", But now...the silence is much worse to me than the snoring! I can safely say...snoring puts, and keeps me asleep! (unless I have nightmares!...another subject)
I do however sleep with "one ear open!"
