I love cookbooks! I have atleast 100 of them, I use to have alot more, but space limits me now....my favorite cookbook is....

"America's Best", A National Community Cookbook to benefit the U.S. Ski Team
I bought this book in 1984 and have used so many of the great recipes in it. I love the Quiche recipe, it is the best!

OK, what is your favorite cookbook??? :)

I two favorites The first being my own! The only recipes that go inthat are things I've actually amde and it was a hit.

My second is great american baking-Brand name baking I have used this book so much the binding is coming loose so the pages are falling out.I think I've made every cheesecake recipe in that book!

I am like you I have a lot of them I collect old ones especially the ones from like jiffy etc.. that came out when the products did years ago.

Ok, you have made me drool with all this talk about Crab Cakes, I want some too, so what time is dinner?? That just sounds like something I want to eat right now!!

I have Beef Bourguignon cooking right now, (Ina Garten's/Food network recipe) I darn near burnt down the kitchen awhile ago, after adding the Brandy I had a flame 2 feet in the air, if my husband wasn't there to put the lid on the cast iron dutch oven I would of melted the microwave oven above the stove, lol I was so amazed with the flames I think I was in shock, it was funny, but I am glad all ended ok.

I have never heard of Beef Bourguignon. Let us know how it goes!

I could not live without my Cooking Light cookbooks. Nowadays, I go to their website to hunt for new recipes. The cookbook it comes from is listed along with the recipe, so I simply look up a recipe, then go pull the cookbook it's in to make it. It's very handy.

I love cookbooks! When my Grandma passed on (23 years ago), we found a whole kitchen drawer full of recipes she had written on the backs of old envelopes. Some of them were so funny, especially her recipe for company roast beef... Which started with 25 cents worth of good beef... Nowadays, that would give you maybe one bite?! I did the best of them up in a cookbook program, and gave copies to the family.
My current favorite cookbook was written by a friend who was teaching me Thai cooking, and has all the recipes that she has ever taught. My daughter is vegetarian, and it's very easy to adapt these recipes as long as one doesn't fear tofu...

I read cookbooks like they're novels! I don't have one particular favorite, but I can never seem to get enough of the Taste of Home magaines - original, Quick Cooking and Light & Tastey. My favorite types of recipes are appetizers, salads, desserts and slow cooker items. I'm always looking for the next potluck hit!

I don't know if you have ever heard of Gooseberry patch cookbooks? I have a few of them and they have some great recipes. There are so many types of them. There's one for Slow cooking, Grilling, 5 minute meals and they have some great tips and facts in them. I got my first one called " A pinch of this, A dash of that and from there I just can't stop getting them. I love my cookbooks! :)

Are any of you biased against cookbooks that don't have pictures? I find myself preferring them, even if the end product (that I make) doesn't look as good! :p

Cpogie

I really don't care if a cookbook has pic's or not, and remember that the pictures in the cookbook are done by food designer's and sprayed with water or oil to make them shine before they take a pic of them for the book, that is why they always look so appealing!!

I would rather that the cookbook have pics, BUT sometimes it's best if it doesn't. I could tell Hubby "it's suppose to look like that!" It's a toss up, now! :p

My favorite cookbook is not a book at all lol its a magazine! Kraft food and familys and yup its FREE. Their web site is also great! You can find all the back issues there and I love that you can do a search by typing in an ingredient like stove top stuffing or such. Its all very simple quick and easy stuff!:D

I have that problem too. I bust a sweat daily, but if I don't watch it, I gain. I gain weight fast too! It's so depressing. :(

I get the Kraft magazine too (I believe there's a whole thread about it around here somewhere). I like it, but I wish they had more light recipes.

I think you can adapt most of the recipes by just taking out some of the fat content, but that is what gives it flavor.....I should know, lol I love anything fatty, but I do try an cut it in somethings, my husband is a butter-a-holic, no lie, cinnamon rolls?? covered in butter and heated in the microwave? Thank goodness I don't like cinnamon rolls......one of the few things I don't like. It's a shame all the best tasting foods have a zillion calories.......Yes I know all things in moderation, lol

I love baking and cooking... My favorite cookbook is actually a bread book. It's called 'Classic Breads' and it has lots of rustic and common breads to make. :)

My only problem is that my family can't eat as fast as I can bake! :P

Have you thought about taking your baked goods to the local farmers market?? Homemade bread & pies sells like crazy at ours! Maybe you could have your mom take you there on sat. mornings. She could get her shopping done and usually those types of sales are over by noon and then she could pick you back up!

It would give you extra money for school clothes!!

I am actually getting pretty good at adapting recipes! Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, LOL! I definitely use sugar-free puddings, fat-free sour cream and cream cheese, etc. I am also getting good at knowing what recipes will take Splenda (although I use Wal-Mart's generic brand called Altern), and which won't.

My son and I tried one of those McDonald's cinnamon rolls the other day, and they were SO good! I only ate one bite though. Really! Do you make the cinnamon rolls for him? I use a light recipe, but I haven't made them in awhile. Even though I use my bread machine to mix up the dough, they're still kinda a pain to make. Yummy though!

Debbie, great idea!

Have you checked out the splenda web site? I'm sure you have. I love to go to splendaville or I should say Alternville LOL! I make all my quick breads in the winter with splenda I use my recipe subbing splenda for sugar and add its like an extra 1/3 or 1/2 tsp. extra of baking soda. Its awesome. I got that tip about the b.soda from the splenda site.

I also bought the splenda cookbook from avon for $10. It has some great recipes in it.

I have sooooo many cookbooks, I couldn't even begin to count them! My husband and I owned a restaurant in DC a few years ago and I have a bunch of "end table" cookbooks from local Dc/virginia/maryland chefs ( some of them are excellent chefs!!) But I have two cookbooks I use almost every day - Betty Crocker(the new pink plaid cook book) and Joy of Cooking. These actually have realistic recipes that are not to difficult to use and have a very tasty end result. I would love to hear from anyone who uses a certain cookbook all the time and why. I cook a lot. I also have supper club here at my home in the winter (I have the biggest kitchen so everyone comes here to cook when it is there turn). But after a long day at work, I want good easy recipes that provide decent meals without being 'fast food at home'. And versatility is important - who wants to eat the same old thing all the time????

Would love feedback on this!!! :D

My mom has an amazing recipe that incorporates a pillsbury quick roll and a really quick and easy cinnamon topping that tastes out of this world --- as soon as I find (lol..it may take me few days) the recipe I will post it.....it's better than homemade and takes about 5 minutes to make...remindes me of "monkeybread" / "bubble ring"...something we ate on special occasions / or holiday mornings!!!

I would like to know this recipe, any chance of posting it? I tried one of Paula Deen's recipes where you put a small cube of cream cheese in the middle of the bisquit and then roll the bisquit around the cream cheese so it is completedly covered, then roll in cinnamon sugar......I made that and it was sooo good, my husband is the cinnamon roll lover here, lol

HAHAHA, I saw the forum on favorite cookbooks, and the first two that popped to mind were the Betty Crocker (in all its variations--my Grandmother's from ???, my Mom's from the 50's, mine from the 80's, we aren't all modern like you with the pink breast cancer awareness one :) ) and Joy of Cooking (mine dates from the 80's, my Mom just bought the newest one). One favorite my Mom still uses frequently--the Gold Medal flour Diamond Jubilee softbound cookbook from the 50's I think. Lots of good, simple, wholesome recipes in that one, and lots of neat history--each section of recipes arranged by decade with an introduction on the stoves, styles, and such of the time, and the history of the Gold Medal flour company.

THOSE TWO ARE MY COOKING BIBLES - the other one I use a lot, but a bit more complicated is Simply Delicious. But I have to admit, I haveused most of them at one time or another. My FAVORITE thing to do is look at several recipes and then create my own!! Sometimes thats a good thing :D ......and then sometime, not so much:eek: ...lol
