ATLANTA -- Some Harry Potter fans have found pages missing from their copies of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."
The book's publisher, Scholastic, said that a few hundred of the 12 million copies of the book are reported to have pages missing.
The gaps have left ******** Potter fans rushing to stores to exchange them -- or filing them away as mementos of the book's epic release
Officials at Scholastic said that with such a massive printing, a handful of problems was probably unavoidable.
The book sold a record-breaking 8.3 million copies in the U.S. during its first 24 hours of release Saturday, and an additional 2.6 million copies the first day it was released in Britain.
Scholastic spokeswoman Sara Sinek said that as of Monday, the company has only heard of "a few hundred" instances of books with missing pages.
Sinek said Scholastic will be happy to replace any book with a defect and advised customers to take defective books back to the place where they were purchased.
Several copies of the misprinted books were being offered Tuesday for sale on the online auction site eBay, with opening bids as high as $30.
The release of the book comes on the blockbuster debut of "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," which was adapted from the fifth book in author J.K. Rowling's series. The film has earned nearly $208 million in North America since its release two weeks ago and an additional $351 million overseas.
The next Potter movie, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," is slated for a 2008 release and the film adaptation of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" is tentatively set to hit theaters in 2010
