The hard drive on my brother's IPod crashed so he told us we could have it if we want to get it repaired. I am planning on getting it repaired for Seth as a birthday present, but don't know of any good places to send it.

I have heard bad things about IRepair. Has anyone used any of the companies and suggest a good one? His birthday is in just over a month so if I am going to do it I need to get it out asap.

Thanks

Have you called any local computer repair shops in your area? they might fix this as well....worth a shot instead of sending it off.

No I haven't. I will try that. I was thinking of try an actual Apple store, but I have a feeling they will be crazy expensive. I will google some and call and check. Thanks Carol!

I called the Apple store. They said that their repair costly basically the same price as buying a new one:eek: That is insane. I found a place that says they will fix it for $31.95 but I have never heard of them so I don't know if they are good or not.

I had my music loaded on at Fire Dog inside Circuit City.
Of course Circuit City is no longer with us.
Id try taking it to Geek Squad inside Best Buy.
Its worth a try.

Do you know for sure it's the HD ?? Does it show you a pix when you plug it into your computer? Could just be the battery is bad and 31.95 is reasonable. I'm not home but there's an ipod site that sells the batteries CHEAP! They send instructions and "the tool" to safely remove it.

I will post the link later.

How does he know? Does the ipod show any sign of life? The battery will over-heat if it's still good. Mine showed me a pix of a sick ipod with the message to call Apple support.

I ask cuz mine just stopped after 3 years and it was the battery AFTER geek squad told me they thought the drive was bad. For me, didn't matter as I has an extended best buy warranty. They sent a 60G and I got back a refurbished 80G with a note saying the battery was bad and they don't send you back the same ipod you send, etc.
