I noticed that alot of the laundry detergent samples are not for HE (high efficiency) wash machines. They are mostly for top loaders.
How many here have an HE machine?
Do you use the (non HE) samples in your HE machine?

I have HE front loaders. When I use the samples I just use about half the pack. So far it hasnt seemed to matter. :)

They sure have a gimmic going with this HE detergent, with the price they charge! I had an HE machine 5 years ago, hated it! took it and it's brother (dryer) back for a return. BUT that was when they were pretty new, so maybe they have changed since I had mine.
I think what Dee suggested will be fine, 1/2 of whatever sample you get.

I have front loaders also. I bought them from Conn's (a semi-local appliance store) when my sister was working there. She told me to be sure not to use anything other than the HE detergents. She had several customers who had bought front loaders and used the regular detergent. The washer can fill with suds if you do that. If that happens it will shut down and not work at all until ALL of the suds have been cleaned out. This is not covered under the manufacture's warranty and in some cases can void the warranty. Don't take a chance. Get the HE detergent. It is formulated to not sud like the regular ones do. It's a little more expensive but definitely worth it in the long run.

I have had my front loading washer for five years and I just now switched to HE detergent. I never had any problems. I used less than half the recommended amount for top loading washers. If you normally use HE detergent and use your samples occasionally you should be fine but only use half the amount they recommend for top loading otherwise you may have problem.

I just read this in Consumer Report Magazine. "Our top-rated detergent for front-loaders was Tide 2X Ultra Concentrated with Color Clean Bleach Alternative HE." Don't know if that is helpful or not. :o
