I work as an administrative assistant in outpatient mental health. When I lived in NY State, I worked for a clinic.

I worked with one of the new doctors, Dr. S, on Fridays. He, being new, got the newer clients and some of the tough cases. We did have patients who required hospitalization.

One Friday, a patient came in, suffering from severe depression. Dr. S decided that she needed to go in patient and asked me to get the paperwork for him, and to call Mobile Life for transport to the hospital.

I got the paperwork and filled it out while I arranged transport for the patient. I then went into the hallway and waited with the paperwork for Dr. S....

Mobile Life came and they looked at me standing in the hallway, and asked me, "Are you ready to go?" I just STARED at them.....I was all dressed up for work, with a name badge and my picture on it!!!!

Dr. S and Kathy, our nurse, just started laughing. I said, "I ma not the patient, I WORK here!!!!" They said, "Oh, sorry", and brought the patient to the hospital.....

I ended up sticking a posty note to my name badge that said, "Please don't take me away, I work here!"

I did get back at Kathy and Dr. S tho.....Kathy had a hotmail email account and I knew her user name and password because I had set it up for her....I changed her password to IAMATURKEY! :D

Dr. S got his just desserts too....I scheduled hospital discharge people with him, and they were on Clozaril, which is a very highly monitored medication for people with schizophrenia. They have to get blood drawn and are seen every 2 weeks...plus there is the dreaded paperwork that he had to fill out whenever they were seen.

I loved my job, I loved my job, I loved my job.....

That's so funny. Things that make you go hum...? This story reminds me of the time I had taken a leave of absence because I was on maternity leave. I worked for a school district so I was able to take a very long one, 18 months. After my baby was about 6 months old, I decided to take a part time cleaning job to supplement our income. As I'm applying for the job the guy asked me about myself, I explained that I was on a leave of absence and he asked me "when is the baby due?" I said I had her 6 months ago. :o Awkward!

Another story....nearly 7 years ago when my son was a newborn I went, without him (cold and flu season, decided he was better off at home with dh), to a newborn massage class. The woman leading the class asked, when I came in, "Are you a new grandmother???" I thought, PLEASE! I am wearing a maternity shirt and still have a tummy, WHAT DO YOU THINK? Thank the Lord I was not suffering from postnatal depression or there might have been an incident.....I was 38 but this, to me, was like what Dave Barry said. "Never ask a woman if she is pregnant unless you see the baby coming out!"

Needless to say THAT wasn't one of my better days! :)

I would have murdered that person!!!

My mom went to the nursery when I was born and they asked her if she was my grandmother!!! (She did not color her hair when she was pregnant and she went gray early....I have the same wonderful trait...thanks to my Grandma Dot! ) She was the oldest first time mom on the floor...she was 26 (13 days shy of 27) when I was born...in 1970, she was considered ancient!!!!
