View Full Version : Prayers requested (again)

Hello ladies and gents,
I have a prayer request for myself, if I may. Starting on January 4th, I began having pain in my right side, kinda like a pulled muscle feeling. It kept up through the week, so I went to my doctor's office to see the PA, and he did a UA, bloodwork, and sent me for xrays. The UA came back with elevated white cells and crystals. The xrays showed nothing. He then sent me for a abdominal ultrasound to check my gallbladder-that came back normal. He then sent me for an abdominal CT scan--BINGO!!! It turns out I have 3 kidney stones:eek: I have 2 in the right measuring 2mm each and one in the left measuring 5mm.
These would make my 3rd, 4th, and 5th stones-my first was back in 2003, second was end of 2006/beginning of 2007, and now these. I have been having a dull constant pain for 3 weeks now, and I'm just waiting for the horrible stabbing pain to hit me.
I have been asking myself, why me? What did I do and to who? I had a miscarriage back in September-wasn't that enough? It's just very frustrating. DH and I were going to start TTC again this month, but that's out the window until I can get rid of these. I apologize for the pity party post-that's why I haven't been posting, in case anyone noticed. It just hasn't been a good start to 2009 :(
You poor thing! Those kidney stones are terrible. My daughter just went through that ordeal. They were not sure exactly what it was and she was hospitalized for a few days in terrible pain. I have to tell you she was in such pain, (like bite the bedrail pain) in that hospital, that I prayed to take her place. It was awful to see your child like that. To make matters worse, she is expecting so they really couldn't give her much for the pain. Hope you feel better real soon. I will gladly add you to my prayer list.

Things can only get better, so pick yourself up and dust yourself off and get this fixed, then everything will fall into place. You have a whole network of women here that know prayer works, we have seen the results! Please keep us posted, best wishes for a speedy recovery. HUGS

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the prayers. I had a rough night again last night...
I have an odd tendancy to name things, weird things. So, in keeping with tradition-these three have been named--Simone, Ramone, and Edgar. Edgar is by himself in the left. Simone and Ramone are brother and sister, so they can be together. Edgar can't be with Simone because I refuse to have baby stones. I have to find some humor in all of this, otherwise I'm going to go insane!

Cindy, I adore your sense of humor! :D When I was in Special Care Unit at Helen Hayes Hospital, after getting the rods in my spine, I asked for a drink of water. The nurses asked me, "Are you sure you want water? We have apple juice, grape juice, tomato juice, orange juice, or ginger ale...." So I asked them, very deadpan, "May I please see your wine list????" :p

Awww, thanks ladies! Today is not a good day at all. I *think* I have one getting ready to move in my right kidney. The stabbing pain is there, but it's not "go-to-the-ER" pain yet. I talked to DH this morning to make sure he was available this afternoon. He told me he has a 130 conference call-I then told him I would see what I could do until after that time. I gotta love him though!

Thanks for the prayers hun. With this being my 3rd go around with them, I know that exact point to head to the ER. These are just like my first one-it was very gradual, then it just hit me in the middle of the night (and in the middle of a central PA snow storm ) My second was very sudden-stepped out of the shower and I had the pain. For some reason, they are seasonal for me-winter only..go figure

Thank you all again so much. I was finally able to eat an actual dinner tonight-first time since Thursday. If something is going to happen, it needs to happen soon-we are supposed to get snow in Baltimore starting tonight. And, because this is the first time we've EVER had snow here according to most people on the roads, I don't want to deal with it.

Ok, this is going to sound crazy, but I've been praying for the past few days that I actually get the horrible nasty pain associated with these. I can't keep going day by day feeling this way. I just want it to happen so I can get it over with it and begin to heal. As much as I wouldn't wish this pain on anyone, this is what I'm hoping for now.
I don't feel like eating much. I've had to stop myself from throwing up so many times I don't count anymore (sorry for the TMI). All I want to do is sleep during the day. I have no desire to drink anything--this is a bad one though.
It's getting old, really fast.

Thank you all so much for the continued prayers! I thought last night was going to be my ER visit, but nothing really progressed. I'm now hoping I can hold off until Friday night or the weekend! My DH has a meeting in Baltimore City this morning for work, and he has to be in Washington DC at 600am tomorrow morning for a meeting! Both are really important, and he needs to be there.

Had a rough night/morning. The pain began in my left side through the night, but it's now just on the right.
I managed to get hubby out the door at 435am this morning so he could make his 600am meeting in D.C. He should be on his way home shortly (things didn't go well!), and I continue to wonder if I will be making a hospital trip today:p

Unless the stones are of a massive size, most doctor's prefer not to do any medical intervention. I've never had any intervention other than pain medication and antibiotics (just to be on the safeside). Mine are not of the size to do anything at this point..it's kinda a wait and see deal. My first one lasted 6 weeks from diagnosis to getting rid of it, and my second one was only 6 days from diagnosis to getting rid of it.
Good news is, I don't discriminate between my kidneys-I treat them both equally with guests:p

I hope you get rid of your nasty stones soon! My dad right now has a stone as well (he doesnt have pain yet but says he can feel it)... and just a couple of weeks ago he had one the size of a bean! He was in a lot of pain but then with some things my mom prepared and gave him he was able to go to work and then in a few days that is when his stone came out! My dads kidneys make and make stones all the time.. he has some about every 4 months.. :(
I wish you (and my dad as well) to be pain free and stone free as well :D:p

Thank you all for the continued prayers. I still have them! The peachpit through a straw is a good example! I *think* they are still in my kidneys and haven't really moved. The real pain is when the move into the tubes connecting the kidney to the bladder. Then, once they get into the bladder, the pain goes away again...I'm still waiting for them to travel!

I'm sorry to hear that you are having such problems with kidney stones. My dad has had many problems with kidney stones. I had one once. The doctor told him to stay away from tea and things with uric acid. (I think that's what it is) Anyway I always tease him because they have to blast them. I tell him he has to have another sandblasting. It's really not funny and thank God he hasn't had any for quite a few years now. My thoughts and prayers are with you and hopefully after these stones are taken care of the Lord will bless you with your bundle of joy. Blessings, KIM

Well, I am no further ahead today than I was yesterday. I was the first person taken back, and I just sat and sat. Finally, the door popped open and 2 ladies asked me which doctor I was there to see-I tell them, and the one says he is at the Elkton office today..needless to say, I'm not in Elkton, I'm in Baltimore!!! They ask me if I want to see a PA or reschedule, and I tell them I need to see someone!
Finally, a very nice lady walks in, and we go over everything. She wanted to get a copy of my bloodwork from the hospital, so after waiting for that, she isn't convinced I have a kidney infection. She is more concerned about the stone on my left side, the 5 mm. It was located in the middle of my kidney, and it could spill out into the tube at any minute. I have to have another set of x-rays done and I have a follow up on March 25th.
Today was BEYOND frustrating...

I got the latest update: I had my follow up appointment with the urologist last Wednesday. I had xrays taken the day before, and the stones are now showing up on xray. I still have three-good news, I don't have any more; bad news, I still have them all. I saw the same PA, and she said that my UA came back showing an infection, so they wanted futher testing, which I should find out about tomorrow or Tuesday. At this point, there is nothing that can be done. The stones are too small to have the shockwave therapy done, so I just have to deal with them as best as I can. I go back in September for a recheck with more xrays. She did tell me that will not stop me from trying to have a baby, which was wonderful to hear. We were finally ready to try again after my miscarriage last year, but that's when this started. While I still have my stones, I'm hoping I can a mommy with stones by early next year:p

Just wanted to bump this up for some more prayers. I have been scarce the last few months because I've been sick again:(
I ended up back in the ER Wednesday night/Thursday morning with yet another kidney infection. I had to have another CT scan done, and I have 3, possibly 4 stones still in there. I was given a ton of pain meds, IV antibiotics, and sent home with the same. Those little puppies are just swelling due to the infection. I'm getting concerned that I could have long-term problems with the recurrent infections. It can't be good for my body...
Baby plans have been put on hold, indefinately at this point. I got to get my kidneys working again before anything.

Cindy.. sorry you are not feeling well. Our oldest daughter had kidney stones when she was in her early 20's. Her urologist put her on medication to dissolve them after a 2 day stay in the hospital. He also told her to drink lots of lemonade and cranberry juice. He said the acid in both would help dissolve the stones.

Thank you all so much for the prayers.
The ER doctor who treated me actually called me this evening. After I told him I was not doing better and my fever is still present, he suggested that if I'm not feeling better by tomorrow just to come back into the ER and they would admit me for IV antibiotics. I am running the risk of having the infection going into my bloodstream.
My DH called his parents and asked them to put us on our the church prayer list. I could use all I can get right now...

I hope you get rid of those nasty stones asap. I will add you to my prayers.
My dad gets kidney stones every 2-3 months. Before he would have to to go the E.R. also. Now he drinks Ego Plant a drink from OmniLife and is able to pass the stones much faster than before. No more E.R. visits for kidney stones now.

Guess where I just got back from? Yep, once again. DH took me a little before 700am, and I was finally discharged around 115pm. This trip was 1 1/2 liters of fluid, 4 injections of Dilaudid pain meds, 1 round of Zofran, and 1 round of promethazine for nausea. I'm not very happy they sent me home, but what can I do.
Thanks again for the thoughts/prayers ladies-I appreciate it!

Thanks again! I slept through the night, and I finally got up around 1015am. I did a load of sheets, took a pain pill, and went back to bed. After getting up, talking to my mom, dad, and my FIL, I ate a little dinner and took another pain pill. My temp is still running on the high side (for me), so I'm hoping the antibiotics kick in soon.
I do appreciate all the prayers and posts!!

I'm baaaack:D I was in the ER from 500pm-200am..long night. My kidney infection is gone, which is good. The doctor was concerned about my pancreas, but it's swell too. I ended up with a diagnosis of intractable pain. I'll spare you all the crazy details, but it's not a good diagnosis to have:( I have to try to meet with my primary doctor today and get a pain management plan started. They sent me home on some crazy strong painkillers. Things have gone from bad to worse..
I do want to thank you all for your continued prayers and support. I appreciate that more than anything!

Thank you all so much for the continued prayers. DH and I went out yesterday and today-way too much too quick! The pain is moving up futher in my back, and when I woke up this morning my entire body hurt-all the joints and such. I'm still taking the pain meds (will be done with the one kind Monday) and the nausea meds.
I have an MRI scheduled for July 13th. That may be moved up, but I need to talk to the insurance first. Other than that, I'm just trying to take it day by day.
Thank you again!

Thank you Kim! You are still in my prayers as well!
My MRI has been moved from the 13th to this Wednesday (the 8th) at 830pm. I also meet with my primary again on Thursday afternoon.
I'm just taking one day at a time..

After much confusion, irritation, and problems, I finally had both MRIs done. I got a call from my primary again last night, and she said both of them came back normal. While that is good news, that leaves no explanation for what is going on with me. She is sending me a list of pain management doctors in our area, and she said at this point, they only thing that can be done is to make me comfortable:( I'm living on 4 pain pills a day-this is not how I imagined living my life.

Just wanted to do a small update. I had an appointment with a pain management physician yesterday. I now have to see a rheumatologist to get tested for autoimmune diseases, and I also need to have a bone scan done to determine if there are lesions on my ribs:(
I can't even get into see a rheumatologist until November, so I'm going to call my primary's office Monday to see if she can order the bloodwork.
Not good news at all...

Carol, when I was trying to get an appointment with a Rheumatologist for DH several years ago I was told that he would have to wait several months. Because of his pain this really was not an option. I called the Arthritis Foundation and they recommended several. When I called one of these and told them they were recommended by the Arthritis Foundation, they were able to see him the next week. Fortunately we really liked the doctor and he was very understanding of DH's needs. DH as ankylosing Spondolitis and it was not diagnosed for several years. Enbrel, an injectable medication, had been approved a few months prior to this visit. The Rhumey prescribed it and it has been a true blessing for DH. He has been taking it for about four years (he self injects once a week) and it continues to give him relief. If I can be of further help, pls PM me and I will try to answer any questions. Hope you get help SOON! God bless.

The saga continues..
I saw my primary on Thursday, and she did the bloodwork (still waiting on those results), but she didn't want to do the bone scan at this point. After I told her I've been having mild chest pain and shortness of breath, she wants me to see a cardiologist. I now have an appointment with him on the 26th. Heart disease is very prevalant in my family as my dad has his first heart attack at 45. She just wants to be sure..at least that's what I'm telling myself.
I'm holding off on the rheumy until I get the results of the bloodwork back, which I'm hoping is tomorrow or Tuesday.
Mspete-thank you for the additional info. I will try that route if I need to see one, and I will definately PM you if I have any more questions.

Eureka!! I have one small piece of the puzzle! My doctor called back today, and the good news is I don't have what I thought I did. She did find out that I have some type of inflammation going on, but the bloodwork is non-specific. She also said my thyroid level (TSH) came back elevated. She said normal is 0.45-4.5, and mine came back at 4.6
I have to go back in October to have a recheck, and if it's still high, she's going to put me on medication. She didn't want to jump straight to meds since they are usually life-long. This does explain my fatigue and tiredness, but it does not explain the pain I'm having.
While I'm grateful to have some answers, I wish I had more. We are heading up to see family this weekend, and the thought of sitting in the car (I can't drive), is not a fun prospect!

Small update on me-I had to see a cardiologist and had a stress test, echo, VQ scan, and chest xray done. All of those came back normal, so I don't have to go back to see him.
I did see my primary today, and that was not a good appointment. I was basically told that she didn't want to create a second problem by getting me addicted to painkillers, but she also told me that I just may have to suffer for a little bit! What doctor tells a patient that! I told her through gritted teeth and tears (as politely as I could) that I have BEEN suffering for the past 3 months-what more do I have to endure? I have lost that time, and I can't get it back:(
She wants me to still make an appt. with the rheumy, and I go back to see her in 2 weeks.
In other news, DH lost his job 2 weeks ago-the good news is, he found another already and has a start date of 9/21. With his field, it's not like he can just get a job off the street (he's a mechanical engineer/project manager/designer), but he had a new job within 10 days of getting laid off!

Cindy, good luck with the Rheumey. DH has been dealing with arthritis for many years and has gone to Rheumatologist for the past five years. It is worth it to see what they recommend. DH's Rheumy prescribed Enbrel for him. It is self inject once a week and has been a God send for DH. Hope it works out for you.
Wonderful news that your husband got a job so quickly! Hope he enjoys the work. Losing his old job and starting a new one may be a blessing in disguise.

Good news about your husband! Maybe the doctor you're going to see will prescribe something for you. No one should suffer!! I'm glad all those tests came out normal.
