OK Aldi's is NOT a product but a grocery store but I have to tell you, I just LOVE this place! Their products are really cheap and very high quality. I can go there and pay 49 cents for a 20 oz loaf of bread that cost over a dollar at any other major food store ;)

I personally am not abig fan of aldi's. I do better now that they offer a lite line.I do however have one favorite item. I ran a burger shop for almost 5 years and got name brand buns. three times a week we sold dollar burgers from 4-7. I would buy my buns at aldis I believe they were 39 cents. The best buns are aldis. they are soft and very tasty!! :)

I like Aldi's as well. A lot of their items are as good as the name brand types and MUCH cheaper. Their Mama Cozzi's pizzas are great! Since you bag your own groceries, I use their extra cardboard boxes to put my purchase in (then I recycle them). Otherwise you can reuse your own bags. They sell bags there too, but I don't see why people do that- who needs more bags nowadays??

sounds like a place I would love to shop. To bad there are none in CA. :(

My hubby and I do grocery outlet. They're like big lots but with groceries. They stuff carry that were promo items and packages that were printed wrong. You can get great deals. We usally walk out of there saving at least $60. I got a case of Diet Snapple for $9.99. I think there only on the west coast though.

Huge Aldi's fan here! I can get bagged salads for 99 cents, salsa for 1.49, bread for 49 cents and more! The workers are always very friendly and I can get in and out quickly. Definitely recommend!:D

We also shop Aldi's. I buy all my fruit as it is so much cheaper than other stores. I buy my salad as well. I have never seen anyone buy toilet paper or paper towels there. I wonder why? Trash bags and plastic zip lock bags are very cheap as well. :D

You guys'll love this! I'm so excited - they opened a brand spankin' new Aldi's yesterday in the shopping area that's closest to me! I was there when the doors opened! LOL I used to have to travel at least 10 or 12 miles to get to an Aldi's so I didn't go very often. The very best buy I've found is Pure Vanilla Extract for $1.99 for a 2 ounce bottle! It's not imitation, either. I do a lot of baking and it works perfectly! A comparable size bottle of McCormick costs way over $4.00! :)

We actually buy all our paper towels and toilet paper there. When our puppy was new we went through A LOT of paper towels, couldn't afford a roll of Bounty with every potty accident!
We also buy all our cheeses, pancake mix, chocolate chips (real chocolate), and pancake syrup at Aldi's (my daughter won't eat any pancake syrup but Aldi's Light).:)

I like the prices at Aldi, and the products are usually great. Their frozen fries are trans fat free, as are their onion rings (when they have them), which is awesome! I do have complaints though. The selection is not very good, and the fruits and vegetables are often not very fresh. I have to plan on using them right away, or I have to freeze them. There's also usually always a line, and only one employee available to check people out. Last time I went, I ended up spending more time in the checkout line than I did shopping. :( Anyone else have these problems?

I understand your frustration - but which do you prefer - lower prices or waiting in line a little longer? It's one of the trade-offs we must endure to get the better pricing - paying for bags or 'boxing' our purchases, renting carts, etc. Personally I would rather wait a few minutes than have to pay ten dollars more just to ensure someone is waiting around for a customer to come to their checkout.

I'm not trying to be snide - but that's a fact in our society these days. You have to pay in order to get better/more attentive service. It's a reason why many people aren't able to get the help they're looking for in Wal-mart, you have to sacrifice service for cheaper prices.

I am so surprised to hear that you have long waiting lines and slow service. I live in Topeka, Ks. and I have never, ever had to wait more than 3 or 4 min., even on a super busy day or people with full shopping carts. We know all the clerks and managers by name and they know us. It is such a wonderful friendly place and the service is superb. :D

Wow, I'm suprised some of you have had to wait in line so long! Normally when too many people (4 or more) are standing in line at once, the checkers at my Aldi's ring a buzzer and within less than a min another checker is there and opens a new line. I've never had problems w/the fresh veges and fruits either but maybe it varies from region to region.

LOL! Sure you are, but that's okay.

I will still go to Aldi because I like their low prices. However, many people won't. A little good customer service wouldn't hurt their business at all, in fact, it might help it. Did you read what mom363546 said? I've had the exact same thing happen to me. When the clerk noticed someone in line, he/she should've stopped unloading the pallet and went and checked her out. That's just not the way to keep customers. Good customer service shouldn't be the price we have to pay for lower prices. It may just be our stores--vealcalf isn't having the troubles that we are.

I've never had trouble finding employees to help me at Wal-Mart. Anyone else?

I don't work for walmart I work for a dairy company and do weekend promos. Now that I have been doing this since Dec. I have a different opinion of walmart employees. There have been times in the past were I have asked someone for help and they look and you like they have no clue.

Now I know why most employees at least at our walmart always works in the same dept. So they know were to find some things but get lost on others. I get so many people that assume I work for them because I am demoing in there I should know were everything is located. I try to do my best to help and have learned you have to find someone in that particular area and you will get better service.

This one young girl stocks eggs during my whole 4 hour shift and people will ask her for something like summer sausage she feels bad when she says she don't know but always go to find someone who does.

heart13, let's just forget about it, okay? I can see your point. :)

I know there are vendors who stock at Wal-Mart who don't work for Wal-Mart they work for Nabisco, Frito-Lay or whoever's products they are stocking. Maybe that is why I don't have complaints about finding help. I know you have to look for the people in blue vests. A lot of people may not understand this.

The Aldi's near us is VERY CLOSE to Wal-Mart. I check out the ads at Aldi's and Wal-Mart will match. For the past two weeks I bought fresh pineapple for $.97! Wal-Mart price was $3.99, but they matched the ad and I bought four of $4.00! I go to Aldi's occasionally and they do have good prices on produce and it is usually good. If the produce does not look good at Aldi's I take the ad to Wal-Mart and check out the quality there.

I am a huge fan of Aldi. I save so much money by shopping there. I don't mind waiting in a line a bit or bagging my own stuff when I'm saving a ton of money.

I've actually done a little experiment with Aldi. I took the same list of 'staple' items with me to a few different stores (Aldi, Kroger, Walmart) at different times. My bill at Aldi was half what it was at Kroger or Walmart. :)

I like going to Aldi's and saving money also. I only wish I could do all my weekly grocery shopping there, but they just don't offer everything I need. I think their frozen pizzas are the best. At the holiday time I buy all my baking needs there. Their prices on flour, sugar, cocoa, real chocolate chip and pecans are unbeatable. I usually have to wait in line, but it really is worth it.

I do agree aldis is a great place for baking supplies. I just don't frequent there as often as I should. The one thing I think aldis does have going for it is the cart mart system.

I have a huge dent in my van from someones cart at walmart. This would never happen at Aldis. It cost 25 cents to rent the cart we all go back to get our quarter back or sell it to someone heading that direction.

I definitely agree with you. I accidentally sideswiped a rebel cart at Wal-Mart once and knocked some of the trim on my car door off.

I don't go there as often as I should either. It's not a one-stop shopping kinda place, which is probably why.

We love Aldi's. Buying there and then shopping sale items at other grocery stores, saves lots of money. My husband is retired and does most of the shopping. Sometimes there's a line, but the savings is worth it. We, too, use the cardboard boxes instead of bags and then recycle them when we get home.

Aldi's is the bomb...I am not too proud to shop there. I go there all the time the only thing i dont get from there is the fresh meat and that is cause at my aldi i dont think it is that fresh. I get the frozen meat though I think alot of their stuff also tastes better than some of the name brands like their skillet dinners and instant potatoes and their vegis and fruits arent too bad. Also with the price of OJ you save alot getting it from there and it tastes good. The only thing they dont have that i wish they did is Baby Food. They just dont carry any baby food. Mabye i should put it in a suggestion box. For anyone who doesnt have an Aldi i am so sorry!!! You save so much $$$ :)

the aldi cherry that is. made my first trip today. i didn't really know that much about aldi until i read about it here. i can see myself going depending on my needs and other errands i need to run. Mine was a little interesting (or at least the patrons). I would go back tho. I got a bottle of Olive Oil for $3.99 and a bag of 3 romaine hearts for $1.49. I can see getting some things there and also going just to see what they have.
So glad I read about it here or I might have never gone.

Aldi's is great. I have shopped there for years and also worked for manufacturers that make products for Aldi's. Aldi's is extremely quality oriented and their consumer complaint division is top notch compared to many other companies out there. I've dealt with it from both sides--both submitting a complaint and answering complaints. They hold high standards for their products--Federal law requires a product be a certain percentage of one key ingredient, Aldi's went above and beyond and required a significantly higher percentage of the key ingredient than many national brands (their formula cost more to make than anyone else's). Some of their products come out of the very same plants as national brand products--off the exact same formula and line--the only difference is the box. Federal law sets a maximum for a certain natural microbial contaminant--that isn't good enough for Aldi's--they won't permit anything over half of the Federally mandated level. They are top notch. They run a very bare bones operation in their stores, but they are very good at it.

I also love the specials that Aldi's runs--like when they import some German sausages, breads, and so forth. The sausages were scrumptious! They carry so much more than groceries, too, which I really like. The very same flower truck that takes flowers to Walmart goes to Aldi's, but the bouquets are less than half the price at Aldi's. Just so many good things about Aldi's!

That's really great to know! I swear by their pure vanilla extract!! For $2 a bottle, the only difference is the price! I wouldn't even consider buying it anywhere else! It's double, and even triple (name brand), the price in all the other stores!

NOT a fan of Walmart, I stay away from them as much as I can, matter of fact, haven't been there in about 5 months. This is where ALDI comes in, it IS a great store to shop at! Who needs name brands anyway? Theirs taste just as good as a name brand. Bag your own, nothing wrong with that(you darn near do it at walmart anyway, 1 of the reason I stopped going there)
So, shop ALDI! support them! don't let walmart put them out of business also, they have done enough damage already.

We love Aldi's, in fact I just shopped there last night. The prices for produce, canned veggies, and frozen veggies/treats cannot be beat! No, they do not take coupons, checks, or credit however they do take debit cards now. We even buy their dry pasta, snacks, cereal, bread, frozen chicken patties and chicken strips which are delicious. I do not buy everything there... I purchase what we like and supplement my shopping at a full grocery. If you have one nearby (within 1/2 an hour or so) I would definately recommend you give it a try! :)

Walmart's prices are so much lower than the other grocery stores in my area. Thanks to Walmart, my family has a much better quality of life. Every penney counts in this household, and I simply cannot afford to shop at a store where every single item costs .25¢ to $1.00 more than they do at Walmart. The Walmarts in my area are very nice too. The other grocery stores are dingy and rundown by comparison.

I do shop at Aldi too, but they are small and simply don't have everything that I need.

I was so psyched when they opened an Aldi's in my town-always had to go there when I went to visit a friend a couple towns over.W/ 3 boys & a hubby,I always stock up on their canned goods-asparagus 79 cents a can, most vegs are alittle less than 3/$1,my hubby loves their canned chicken for sandwiches.Their produce here is hit & miss, but I have a hispanic grocery store by me that I buy most of my produce from cheap(limes 25/$1,avocados 3/$1,oranges & apples are somewhere around 39 cents/lb,10 # potatoes are always $1.99 unless on sale,& they have the best homemade fajitas(chick, beef & pork)-all you do is stir fry.I haven't been to Walmart in mos,but when I do,it's usually for something specific.I usually get good deals @ Walgreens for household & toiletries(& the sale stuff)Unfortunately,I don't really do 1 stop grocery shopping, but I don't travel too far to get deals.Deb

Ok ladies..dont get mad... I really dont care for aldi's:p Dont you have to pay for your own bags?? Or you can bring your own bags??

Yes, you would have to pay for your own bags and you bag it yourself, which is one of the ways they keep their prices so low. It is so easy just to bring your own bags or use one of their cardboard boxes to put your items in. They also have the cart system where you put a quarter in the cart and get it back when you put the cart back. This way they don't have to hire someone to do it. I think it is a great concept. I am willing to do a little more to save money. I can see how if it was your first time going there, you might feel bad about paying for bags. Once you know, you just adapt. My friend keeps bags in her trunk for when she goes there. I would give it another try if I was you. Just go into it knowing they are saving you money by doing the things they do.

I dont shop there because of the bags..its the food. They dont have food there that my family likes and that they would eat. To me their selection of food is small.

You must have a small one, the one I have has alot of name brands for cheaper...There are a few select things that I just wont buy from there like bbq sauce, but the majority of the stuff is the same...they have fresh fruits a vegies for low prices, and there bread is really really cheap, I think like 40 cents a loaf! They have a really good selection of meats too! What kind of food does your family eat?

They do actually carry fresh chorizo--just can't remember if they have it all the time or just when specials are carried. My husband likes spicy food and I've bought it there a few times. He really likes it but I'm a whimp and can't eat it (too hot for me!) The tortillas are the run of the meal 10 in a pack, they maybe just seem slightly thicker than some of the name brands. Probably not what you're looking for but I will say they make great tortilla pizzas and for 89 cents it's a good price! They frequently carry Mexican themed specials in their flyers maybe check it out and see if it's anything you're family is interested in. They also do German and Asian specials too.

I like Aldi, not love it. I do agree that it is super cheap. If I do go there I stock up on cereal, bread, buns, milk, eggs, sour cream. Their frozen hamburger patties & pizza's are really good. The produce is hit or miss. They also have imitation crab meat that's awesome. I make up my mind about going there depending on how crowded the parking lot is. They never have enough cashiers working, so if it's busy I don't go there. If you have never been to an Aldi and you have one near you I would suggest shopping there at least once.

I really appreciate your information VealCalf..My husband is picky..Like I said I doubt the chorizo or the tortillas will pass the mexican taste test!!:D I highly doubt the chorizo and tortillas are made in the store, fresco(fresh) like we get where we buy it now.. Its just our preference not to shop at aldi's.. We love our fresh Mexican food!!!:D But Thanks again Vealcalf!!

Ooops nope they don't make it in the store! Sounds like your family wouldn't care for it too much. I betcha the fresh made in the store is far superior to any store brands. Uh oh, here I am talking about food again wondering what's in the cupboards here at home :o

I buy produce items, nuts, eggs, milk, frozen fruits and frozen shrimp. Their prices are lower than the average grocery store and I shop at different chains for other items.

The bags are .05 for paper ad .10 for plastic. The bags are good quailty and every time I go I bring a few used bags and only purchase more if I'm low on them.

Aldi's is definately a money saver! :) It is getting to be more convenient, they now take debit cards (would not even take checks before) and they now have extended hours, including Sunday's. I am sure they changed both payment method and hours to stay competative. I do not buy their fresh meat (a bad pack once) and have only bought specialty burgers and chicken strips frozen. You cannot beat their cereal, "fake" Fritos and Cheetos, milk, pasta, crackers, stewed tomatoes, sundae cones, salad dressings, baking items, and such... the quality is excellent and the prices are very good. I also LOVE their fresh produce! I don't buy everything there, in fact I only average going about one time per month. I stock up on what I will buy/do use when I go. Often they even have name brand items in house as well. My MIL/FIL use to snarl their noses at Aldi's, only shopped our local grocery for name brand items (never a generic) even though we raved about it! They went to a new Church, were a couple of people they became friends with shopped Aldi's. Now my MIL is their biggest cheerleader (peer pressure never goes away...LOL)! :D We have one Aldi's and two Sav-A-Lot stores locally. I have shopped Sav-A-Lot but did not like several things I tried plus they just were not as cheap so I only shop Aldi's. My mother on the other hand prefers Sav-A-Lot because it is so close to where she lives.

I shopped at Aldis when they were first new.....that was until I found something pretty gross in a can of ravioli...never shopped there again. I do agree about the breads though....I used to like their soft buns, and breads!

Of course you know I sing Aldi's praises all the time, but I just had to point out something else I really like about their store. Now maybe they don't do this at every store buy mine will frequently put their fresh meat on clearence. Often the clearence price is really fantastic. For ex, this past week I picked up a package of 90/10 hamburger for $2.00 off. It still had 3 days left before the use by date. A couple of weeks ago I picked up a spiral sliced ham for $5.00!!!!! The regular price on the ham was almost $13.00 and it still had over a week to be used. I'm getting kind of crafty about their clearence deals, I'll often scope out the store and see if anything is within a week of that use by date and I pretty much know in the next day or so that it'll be on sale. Now I do have a word of caution, I watch out for their "special" buys that are listed in the flyer. Often times when the next week roles around they'll have them on "clearence" but it's often the same as the original special price-so yeah it's maybe still a good deal but it's probably no cheaper than what it was last week. I normally try to keep track of those prices so I can decide how much I really like that item and if I'm getting the best deal possible.

For the past two weeks the local Aldi (located very near Wal-Mart) had one gallon of milk (whole, 2%, skim) for $1.99 per gallon. One week it was advertised, the next week it was not advertised but continued to be $1.99. Their buttermilk was $1.99 for 1/2 gallon. It was $3.35 at my regular grocer. I really like the "Live & Fit" yogurt. I also buy the 3# bag of boneless/skinless chicken breast at Aldi - usually $5.99 per bag. I have bought many bags of this and never gotten a bad piece of meat. Since Wal-Mart matches their ad I sometimes get items at Wal-Mart instead of going into both stores.

Let's not forget they have awesome prices on veggies and fruits. I love buying strawberries for 99 cents! Mmmm

Aldi's still had milk for $1.99 as of 4/14/08. Regular price at Wal-Mart is $4.00+. Milk was not advertised by Aldi but continued to be $1.99. They had fresh pineapple for $.99 but it did not look very good. Did price match at Wal-Mart and got very nice pineapple for 99cents instead of almost $4.00.
The also advertised apples (Golden & Red delicious, Fuji, Granny Smith) for
$.25 each - unfortunately they only had Granny Smith & Fuji. I prefer delicious. Since Aldi sells by the piece and Wal-Mart sells by the pound, Wal-Mart will not price match. Oh well, can't win them all.

we finally got an Aldi's store apx. 4 mls from home. my neighbor & i checked it out after i read EVERY post here on this thread (TY 1 & all). we are thrilled! HD likes the canned chicken & the chunk white tuna for his lunches. huge savings there! since i'm not a coffee drinker i drink diet cola in the morning..$2 for a 12 pk?! mine! eggs $1.49 pr. doz. oooo yeah! milk for a gal..$1.99. but all Aldis are not equal in price. neighbor's daughter's store sells gal of milk for $3.99 10 miles from here. i have found that either ppl love this store or they hate it...doesn't seem to be a middle. so far we haven't found much wrong with the products we have bought. i personally didn't care for the fake lobster bites...too chewy. i go to Aldi's 1st & then off to my reg. grocery store. we think the 1st time we went we each saved apx $20-$40. 8 oz fresh mushrooms (sliced or whole) 99¢! can't beat that! i'm all for Aldi's!
