 Okay, I need a little advise. Gavin is 2 and 1/2. He is not interested in potty training. He says no potty and he would rather run around in a poopy diaper than admit he has it and let me change it. He is all boy and totally different from my girls and how easy they were to get out of diapers.

Any suggestions? Don't hold back!

My brother had a problem getting his boy to do the same...this might sound funny what he told him but...he said if he did not use the potty that the poopy monster was going to get him if he pooped in his diaper. He got so scared that a "Monster" was going to get him he started using it. Personally I am not that far with my little one but I am sure that the ladies on the forum will give you some really good advice!!! :D

My son was 3 1/2 and I just got him potty trained. He was the same way and would hide after he went in his diaper. I finally decided that it was time so I had him throw away his diapers himself and put big boy underware on. We had 2 days of accidents on my floor every couple of hours but every time I would run him to the potty and he would go a little in it. Then by the 4th day he was still refusing to learn so I told him we can't leave the house at all until you can potty like a big boy. (It took more restrain on my part to be in the house constantly until who knows when.. :D ) But 2 days later he was using the potty almost perfectly with only 1 or 2 accidents over the next week. Hope this helps because I thought my son would NEVER get this down. Just keep in mind that it is a battle between you and him and you will win eventually!!!!!!

I agree with the above post. You just have to take the diapers off during the day and put on big kid pants. That is what we did with our 3 year old. She FINALLY got it. Also put one of those training pottys somwhere he can get to it easily like in his room or hte living room or somthing. the bathroom was a big part of my daughter being aprehensive about training. Now that she is used to using her potty it is now in the bathroom and once she gets used to that room we will graduate to the toilet. We do still put her in a diaper at night even though she wakes up dry I just dont want to deal with that mess in the morning. (not a morning person lol) Good luck!

Does anyone have any advice on how to get a subborn 3 1/2 year old to stop pooping in his pull up and training pants? He finally got the potty part down but insists on pooping in his pants! Im so confused! He is doing so well otherwise! Does the poop part take longer? I dont remember this part with my older son! HELP!! Thanks!

After his breakfast, put him on the toilet/potty chair and give him some books to look at or some toys. Keep him there for 20 minutes. If he poops, make a big deal and reward him with some fruit (grapes are always good). If he doesn't, try about 1 hour later. Keep trying until he poops. Make sure he's drinking a lot of water which helps with the pooping. There is something about boys that they think this is a treasure keeper and they don't want to part with it. YUCK!!!

Stop buying Pull-Ups :) I think we all tend to over think things. They all figure it out if given the chance.
Good Luck :)

My three year old finally is potty trained durring the day, and I have to say out of 7 kids he was by far the easiest he just goes in and goes I walked by the bathroom and he was sitting there pooping I was shocked how fast he took to it and with no effort, it will happen when it happens

All six of mine went at different ages from 2-3 1/2. If they don't show interest at first, it's usually best to back off a few weeks and then try again. I think my boys were a little more challenging than my daughters. One thing that really helped was the start of preschool. They wanted to go because there were so many neat toys, but they had to be potty trained. We worked on it during the summer (which I think is best since they can wear very little clothing) to be ready for. Sometimes having Daddy help with a little boy can have a huge impact, even if they're sitting down. Just remember that when they do finally start going, you need to keep encouraging them. It also makes it difficult if you go from Pull-Ups to underwear all the time. Make sure that you are using the Pull-Ups at night only, their bedtime undies!!
With the pooping in the pants, I had one that did that also. What worked best for me was a "special" gift after going in the potty for two weeks. I would take them to the toy store and they would pick out one thing they really wanted (not extravagant), then we'd go home and work on earning it.
Just be patient and gently remind them that they are too big to go in their pants and that big boys/girls can't do that! Good luck and hang in there! One day you'll wish it was the only "hard" thing you have to do!!
