Ah, $100 million dollars...decisions...decisions... What would you buy? How much would you give to charity? Would you move into a new house? Move to a new neighborhood? Quit your job? Drive something new? Think about it and then share your thoughts with the rest of the StartSampling community. Hey, it could happen! (as long as you buy a ticket now and again)

If I won a million dollars I would pay off my house, set a side money for my son's college education and give some to charity. I would invest the rest of the money and then see what it is that I want to do.

Fisrt I would have to give some of the money to my church , then i would buy acres of land and build me a large house with a stable for the horses. after that i would buy my dream truck and a donation to my High school and College Fine Arts departments, and the rest into saving for the future.

Pay off debts, give money to family and some friends. Travel all over. Build a house, get new vehicles. Give to charity. Invest. I'm sure there's other things I would want to do with it, but that's all I can think of right now.

I would make a percentage to my church and St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital, in Memphis.
Then I would buy acreage and build a home that I can relax with my husband for the remainder of his time with me. Then I would build each of our two children a home and buy each of us a safe vehicle.
The rest would be invested, our securitey and for educational needs of our grandchildren.

If I had a million dollars!! I would of course pay off of of my debts and then I would give to my church, buy a house and set up my child for life can't ask for anything more than that!!

If I won one hundred million dollars I'd probably faint first. After reviving, I'd get busy looking at house plans to build a new home for Hubby Dearest and me; I'd help my 2 grown children with their debts, set-up a trust fund for my 2 young children still at home; invest a lot of it; and give some to various charities. This is all AFTER taxes.:( So, unless the one hundred million is tax-free:D , there wouldn't be one hundred million in my hand; but, there'd be more than there is now.:p

If I won a million dollars, after paying the taxes, I would give my 10% tithe to the church, ask God what other amount He would have me to give and to whom. I would pay off all bills and debts, go part time on my job, and help my two adult children with their finances as well as giving putting money away for college for my two younger children who are still living at home. Then I would have fun for myself.:)

Pretty much the same as everyone else. Pay off my house, kids/college, start my own small business, children's charities and invest the remainder.

:o I guess the first thing I would do is faint. Then once I got some wits back, I would see a financial advisor. (I know...boring  ) Second, I would help my Mom out financially with whatever she needed. Then I would quit my job, join a gym and start looking for a new house and cars and take my kids SHOPPING and tell them they can buy clothes even if they are more than $20 each piece!! :D

The first thing I would have to do is pay the 25 million in taxes that would be due… lol. I would give 10% to my charity of choice (the Muscular Dystrophy Association), and then another 10% would go into a trust fund for my two children when they reach 21. I would give 10 million to the members of my family that have been nice to me in life. I would spend another $750,000 on a nice motor home and travel around the country. I would not buy a home or land for a while, there are too many places I haven’t seen and I don’t know where I want to live yet. I would put $10,250,000 into a bank account for spending cash and the remaining 25 million would be put into a variety of stocks, bonds and mutual funds. I might even run for president.

And yes, I have thought about this for a long time… ;) :)

I would do like most and upgrade my home, buy a car(not necessarily new), pay off my son's education, and invest.

One other thing I would do is select 3 area kids that have aspirations of higher education and no means of funding and pay for theirs too. I have always stood on the belief that a good education is a true gift. :D

:D
I'd pay off anything that my family owes, but I wouldn't let them know.:)
I'd have 2 house's built. One in Michigan and one in Florida. Each home would be handicapable. I'd invest some into whatever rich people invest in, lol. I'd buy my own private jet and hire a pilot, for all those places I've always wanted to see. The kids wouldn't ever have to worry about running out of food, or not having the new clothes they need. I'd hire a maid, a butler and a Nurse. I'd give $1 million to the following people who have helped my family in the past: Goodwill; Salvation Army; Father Fred Foundation and a few close friends would find a large envolope addressed to them.

I would pay off any bills I have and then find my dream home. I'd squirrel some away for my nephew's college fund and invest the rest.

First I would find me a good Heath Place to check into to get medical help I need that I cannot afford now. If I could get my back and knees fix good enough to get around if would be worth the money Of course pay off my credit cards and help my family and since I am a very giving person I'm sure I would be giving to a lot of people.

I would do all the normal things for my church, my kids and their kids. Then, I would build a small apartment complex(5 or 6 units) specifically for elderly, disabled people. One unit for me. All would be one-story, wheelchair accessible and roomy. Rent would be low. Housekeeping would be included. Also, comfortable transportation, a driver and a shopper, if needed. The tenants would pay rent because elderly, disabled people hate to be thought of as "charity cases."

I would buy a small house in washington state. I would want it on at least a half an acre of land with trees and and have a garden there. I would not use the money for a year so it would gain inerest in the bank. I would get myself fixed wherever I needed it. I would probaly give donation to the salvation army because they have helped quite a bit]

If I survived winning that much money and didn't have a stroke first I would buy lots of land and build the house of my dreams, which is a log cabin. I would also have lots of animals, horses, dogs etc. I woud definately make investments and set aside money for retirement. I would make sure that my children and grandchildren would never feel the want for money and have money set aside for their education. I would donate to charities, buy a nice truck and not worry about the price of gas anymore. I would take trips. I would also help out my good friend and my brothers and their families. :p I would also make sure that my mom is well provided for in her golden years. Bottom line is I would spend alot but not until I made sure that me and my husbands retirement years would be lived in comfort and not pay check to pay check like alot of people have to do. ;)

03-26-2007, 01:52 PM
first off guess I would have to buy a lottery ticket to win it but if I did I would build a wonderful house on a good fishing lake for my hubby and I and then I would pay off all our debts and pay the student loans for my son and his wife. and give his older brother the same amount to do something with. I would put money aside for each of my grandchildren. and then I would invest the rest so we would have a nice monthly income and we could retire and enjoy life :D

03-26-2007, 02:22 PM
If I won $100 million dollars I would first pay off my student loan. I would go back to school paying up front not having to worry about another debt after graduating. I would set aside enough to pay for my childrens education so they would not be in my situation. Last but not least I would open a clinic that provides free care to those that don't qualify for welfare but whose employers don't provide it pretty much good hard working people like myself. The clinic would provide free annual physicals & immunizations. This may seem like to no big deal to some but to those who have not had a physical in three years because they have no insurance iti s a big deal.

I would give 10% to the church, donate to a charitable place, give a scholarship for Caribbean students to my old college (there was none available while I was there), buy a bigger house with a walk in closet that's just for my shoes, help out my family and in-laws and help my husband get his dream started.:) Oh yeah, and most importantly set aside money for my kids for college..I'm sure its going to cost at least a quarter of a million by the time its their turn to go to college.

I would buy a new house, new van, and pay off debts. I want these things, not for themselves, but for what I can do with these things, adopt a child.

First thing first, pay off the house and the car. Not worry about anything. Smile when I sleep. Donate just about everything we own now to people who need the stuff. Get my husband a new waist line. Get me a gorgeous white smile and flat tummy. Get our son a tutor.
Buy...a couple 3 yr. CD's, furnished new home, wardrobe, 2 cars.
Did I say smile when I sleep, that and smile all day and night too.

I would hire a trusted financial advisor, and an attorney. I would pay off all my bills, sell my crap house, buy a nice new house, set up trust funds for each of my 3 children, purchase a car, re-write my will, and donate 20% of the winnings to my 2 favorite charities, then go into hiding.
:D

Other than I would finally own my own home just a small one and I would buy two dependable cars. Other than that life really wouldn't change except for the fact that now there would be no worries. I love my life now money would only take away the stress of bill paying. I would just do it at the first of each month and be done!! Yeah thats what I'd buy and do.

04-08-2007, 08:38 AM
Would that be before or after taxes? If I won a million dollars, I would first build the house I have been dreaming of since a teenager. Open up a couple of custom businesses (can't tell you what...secret :p ). Get my dad's house fixed and add a gate and some gardens. Invest in the education of my daughters and one of my nieces. Build some type of modern building for cats and dogs that aren't wanted (no one gets put to sleep). Last, but not least, I would donate time and money to American Cancer Society (since I would quit my job).

Yes of course bills and education would come first... but I definetly would want to give to Hurricane Katrina.. maybe sponsor a family that needs help getting on their feet, that way I am aware of who and how my winnings are directly helping instead of some CEO getting a new skyline office!!! Anyone agree??What with the whole United Way thing, little leary on charities and just how our donations really help those who need it.

mom363546
04-13-2007, 11:22 PM
yes all those charities are great. we agreed if we ever won we would pick ourbest friends and family members and decide how much we would give each one and then that was it. The rst of the money would be invested for the future of our children and possibly help toward paying college fees for the nieces and nephews.

My house is paid. off. I have no college loans or children needing trust funds. If I won BIG money I'd continue to invest in efforts to reduce poverty and world hunger. I'd work hard to see that the orphaned and vulnerable children like those living in Holly House in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya have access to food, basic medical care, housing, clean water and a chance to go to school.

Actually If I did win that much. I wouldn't want it. I'm sure you would be wondering why would I say that. That much money will not make me happy. What am I supposed to do with it? It's too much!! I would at first pay off my debts and find a home and get a better car due to terrible high gas prices and put some money away for my children and help people who needs it. Get family resturant business. I also give some away to my Church for the Lord Jesus and the rest I will put away for whenever it arises that a emergencys for people I help are strangers.

If I won the lottery, I'd first pay off all of my debts. Then I'd set aside enough money for my son's college education. (He will be a freshman this year at University of Pittsburgh). Then I would go on a cruise (probably more than one) back to the Caribbean. I'd make a huge donation to our local humane society. We adopted our girl Katie from there. Aside from the vast amount of shedding, she has been a real joy to us. I'd make sure that my hubby and I had enough put aside to le more than comfortably for the rest of our lives. Then I'd just buy things for random people. For example, if I saw someone who's car broke down along the road, I'd buy them a new one. Or if I saw someone struggling to by food for their family, I'd pay or their groceries. Just imagine how cool it would be if some stranger came up to you in the grocery store and offered to pay for your groceries. I know the old saying that money doesn't buy happiness, but I'd sure like to give it a try. LOL

I like this idea! Garth Brooks lives in Owasso, which is a bedroom community of Tulsa. Every so often he makes the local news for doing stuff like this. Last time I heard about him doing something, he'd seen a family broken down by the side of the road, helped them, then bought them a car. Every time I hear about him doing something like this, it just melts my heart. What a great guy!

We paid cash for our house and we have no debt, so I wouldn't have to waste any of it paying off bills! I'd probably fix this house up and sell it or offer it to my mom. Then, I'd buy us a nice, bigger house on some land. I'd definitely have to have it built to my specifications, of course. I'd want a roomy kitchen with lots of counter/cabinet space. I'd also like to have a nice bathroom with a big, sunken tub/whirlpool. I'd also want a small indoor pool!

I'd definitely set up college/trust funds for my kids. I'd want them to go to college no matter how much money we had. I would also help out other family members.

I agree that money doesn't buy happiness, but I'd sure like to find out for myself too!

If I had a million...I would find a nice sized property in the country with a pond on it and build me a 2 story house. I would pay off what little bit of debt I owed. I would buy me and my fiance new cars, for him a Maxima and for me a Trail Blazer. I would put money in the bank for my babys college, and start him a savings fund for when he wants to leave home. And I would invest alot of money into fixing my teeth. Then I would buy my mom and dad a new car and new double wide trailer (their dream home). And some money to travel the country with. Go shopping with my mom and just walk in the store and if I like something get it. And finally I would adopt a child. I would love to give a child without a family a nice home. I just cant do it right now. So much more I would do, but not nothing fancy.

$100 million!!! Wow, that's a lot of money! I think the first thing I'd do is hire a body guard! Who knows what kind of people would claim to be related!
Next, my husband and I are both from large families and there isn't one of them that couldn't use some extra money, so I'd probably start there, including nieces and nephews that are grown with families of their own.
I would also give a large chunk to our Church. Our Church supports our school and I know that this money would be used for it however they needed.
I also like the idea of "Random Acts of Kindness". There was a gentleman in Kansas City, MO that would hand out $100's of dollars every year at Christmas and did so anonomously. It wasn't until last year or so that his identity was revealed, but at that time, he was diagnosed with cancer and died shortly there after. I believe he was only in his 40's!! He had grown up poor. What an amazing mark to leave upon this Earth when you leave!!
There are some material items I'd like to have, but like it's been said, money can't buy you happiness, only you can create that!!! Of course, it doesn't hurt to have a little either!

2) I would visit Australia (and take all my friends with me) to see our beloved friend that lives there

3) Give money to the battered woman's shelter

4) Buy some rental property

First I would call the IRS and tell them to come get their money.

Then, I would build my dream house, take my day off and generally have a good time.

I always wanted to see the country by train. I would do that. I would also be investing my money as well so I will have an income to keep me in the lifestyle I would grow accustomed to.

I think I would like to open my own business. I make really good pickles and would only be open during busy times at the Fairgrounds. The State fair, the hobby fairs, etc. Then I would be closed the rest of the time.

I would give 10% to Church and charities/non-profits.

I would give my job a 2 week notice. I would buy a house here in IL and one back home so I can be a Winter Texan. I love the idea of opening an animal shelter, and I might go back to college. I would turn my soapmaking, bath and body hobby into a business. I would start college funds for the God-kids and help friends and family get on their feet and ahead for awhile.

I would invest for my retirement.

$100 million sounds great right now, but if it's won through lottery, you also have to think about the 40% taxes the officials take off of your sum total! If it was a whole 100 mil, though, I would definitely move back to the Hamptons and get my kids their spoiled dreams! :p

 first off, I would thank God. Then I would split it with my husband because we promised each other that's what we would do. I would donate to St. Jude's, Make a Wish Found.,Jimmy Hale Mission, etc. Then I would buy my beach house down in LA(lower 'Bama). Me, my husband, our one cat, and our four dogs would be beach babies. I couldn't quit all work 'cause I would get really really bored:o . Other than that I don't know. That is something I think you would have to take one day at a time:) OHHHHH. I would have to keep my husband from buying all of his dream cars:D

What I would buy with $100 million dollars? There so many things badly needed and some wanted I would start with that. First of course I would invest the money well so it would last. I buy several dream homes one in Chicago, Hawaii ( warm weather) and Spain. :) I would go on a very long vacation. :D

I would first pay off any type of loans (school) or debt (car payment...credit cards...) I had.
I would purchase a modest sized house, nothing too fancy, but comfy.
I would make a donation the rescue I work with (this would be a large donation)
Iwould also buy me 2 orginal art works of Skipper and Max by dean Russo. (I want one of these SOOO bad... but at this moment I wouldnt be able to purchase it)

My dogs would have their own room at my house. It would be a long narrow room that served as a "sun room" along side of the house.
how cute!

until then i will keep wishing.

I would also set a little money aside of course for my duture and set up a trust fund for my future kids, as well as my baby sister.

Instantly, there would be a carepackage for every service member overseas. I would start my own company to ensure our "boys and girls" over there had all of the equiptment that they need, and a box of what they want to make their lives easier.:D

If there was anything left over, I would buy my husband a truck with a warranty so he didn't have to work on his when it needs repairs...and then hire someone to do all of the "honey do" list for our house so he wouldn't have to work so hard.;)

Once that was all taken care of, I would take my husband to Key West to relax. We haven't had any kind of a vacation in 7 years due to my medical bills. His vacation days are either set aside for my hospitalizations or we cannot afford to go anywhere so we stay at home. It would make me smile to see him relax and not worry.:)

After paying off all my debts, and giving some to my kids for school, debt or investment, I would give my 2 weeks notice and live off the interest as income. Also, would buy a brand new John Deere Tractor with implements.

Okay, you got me dreaming now....... first pay off all bills and cancel any credit cards or other services I don't need/shouldn't have. I think I would move to an area where there was a lot more contiguous land so I could own about 300 acres. Or close to a state/national forest with lots of riding trails, maybe down to Tennessee. I would like to set up funds for teen moms, a ranch for troubled kids with the right people to run it, a theraputic riding facility (where I would work), give my kids about $500,000 each. Not enough to get into trouble but enough to buy a nice home, a good car and go to school. Then set up trusts for them to get when they are old enough to know what to do with it, when they are about 35 IF they have a job and some sense to them. I would like to help out people without them knowing it, maybe give a large monthly donation of goods to food banks, set up a fund for people who need help with bills, not people on welfare but people who work but could use some extra once in a while. Like to pay bills, buy food, go to the doctor. My family has done NOTHING for me ever so I would avoid them like the plague. Probably disappear to them. I would also take my husband to Germany for real treatments for his back trouble. The junk they do here in the states for people with back injuries is a joke. For myself, I just want a nice show horse I can take to open shows and place with. Don't need the blues, just to do it for fun. And work with Big Brothers/Big Sisters to help out kids who's parents are overworked, underpaid and need some help. Can you tell I was a young, single parent with no help? I would help out my sister cause she has been thru a lot of crap too. Other than not having to worry day to day about my bills, I am not sure how much I would change. There would be some inevitable changes, everyone would expect you to do for them, but I would still want to be out working in the garden (although I might hire some help or do things a bit differently than I do now) mowing the grass, building fence, and more. I would love to find a couple people who needed a home and who would work well and give them a place to live on the farm and let them work with me so I could get more done each day.
