I belong to a mystery reader's club. Unlike most book clubs, we do not select a specific book to read each month, though we have done this every so often (about once a year). We've had a variety of programs, ranging from the simple: a discussion about books and authors we've read, to having speakers from the police department, a private investigator, a man who trains bloodhounds for tracking work etc. We've been fortunate to have gotten some authors to speak at our meetings, we have an annual English Tea, we have a Christmas party with a book exchange.

After 17 yrs, we're running out of new ideas and would welcome any suggestions from those of you who belong to common interest groups.

The majority of our members are women in the 40-80 plus range. We've had some younger members (in their 20's and 30's) but don't have any at this particular time though our group is always open to new members.

If you have any questions or ideas, you can e-mail me privately or respond to this thread.

Around the holidays, you can have a toy gathering and donate to toys for tots or another local organization. You can also do a food drive have everyone bring some nonperishable food items or personal care items and then donate in your groups name to a local food pantry. They can all use the help.
Have a book party, bring in some of your used books and either exchange or see if there is a senior center that can use.
Right now everyone is hurting and can use all the help they can get.

We here do they food drive starting in july and take some every month to a local pantry. We do not put a limit on what to bring ,just what you can.

In september we do the toy drive til beginning of december and then take to toys for tots.
All year round ,we take our books that we are done with and put together and have a book party at the local vets home,sr center and pantrys.

We also host a party for the local school(elementary) and adopt a class for the year.School supplies, book stores GC for giveaways, tutors in the class, adopt a family for the family, small gift for the holidays.
Hope some of this help.
