Does anyone have a great recipe for frosting? Any flavor is welcome. When I made vanilla before it had a strong powdered sugar flavor. Thanks!

Butter cream Icing
1/2 C. Crisco
1/2 C. butter or oleo
1 Tsp. Vanilla
4C powdered sugar
2 Tbl Milk
Mix crisco butter and vanilla add powdered sugar milk. Mix well. Whip until light and fluffy.
I have used this recipe for years.I always double it. I get great compliments on all my cakes.
Cream cheese Frosting
3 oz cream cheese softened
1/4 C butter or oleo softened

MMM. You just made mouth water. Carrot Cake sounds great and I haven't made it for a long time. I just might have to go to the store and get what I need. I'll try your frosting! Thanks.

Here's my favorite!
Cream Cheese Frosting
4 oz fat-free cream cheese, chilled (half a block)
1/4 cup of butter, softened (half a stick)
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 1/2 cups of powdered sugar
2-3 tablespoons of skim milk
Blend together cream cheese, butter, and vanilla with a mixer in a bowl until creamy. Add powdered sugar, and milk, one tablespoon at a time until icing reaches desired consistency.
Here's my favorite chocolate glaze recipe. It tastes just like the icing you find on eclairs:
Chocolate Glaze
1/4 cup skim milk
2 tablespoons butter, softened
2 tablespoons honey
2 ounces unsweetened chocolate, melted (I use Nestle's pre-melted chocolate packets)
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
Combine 1/4 cup milk, softened butter, honey, and chocolate in a medium bowl; beat well with a mixer. Add powdered sugar and beat well. Spread chocolate glaze over cake.
Both recipes will cover a 9 x 13 cake. Enjoy!

Carol, I mean no offense to you at all, but how can you stand the canned stuff? It tastes terrible! Unless they've changed the recipe somehow. Remember when icing used to come in a mix? I liked that icing okay; but I simply cannot abide the tub stuff. Now, I don't mind boxed cake mixes--those are pretty good. In fact, I used one last night to make a recipe that was posted on the hints forum.

To tell you the truth, NO! I very rarely make a cake and when I do, I use a package mix and use real whip cream for frosting, of course the middle of the cake has banana's with some whip cream too, and the outside, drowned with whip cream, yes it has to be refrigerated, but it don't last long here, lol
