 Readers BEWARE, this is not a warm and cuddly story!
Have you heard about Michael Vick, QB for the Falcons??? He was indicted by a federal grand jury on felony charges of dog fighting. 52 dogs were seized from his property. The following is an excerpt from the court papers:
"The abuses described in the 19-page indictment are almost beyond belief:
In or about March of 2003, PEACE [one of Vick’s co-defendants], after consulting with VICK about the losing female pit bull's condition, executed the losing dog by wetting the dog down with water and electrocuting the animal.
In or about April 2007, PEACE, PHILLIPS, and VICK executed approximately 8 dogs that did not perform well in "testing" sessions...by various methods, including hanging, drowning, and slamming at least one dog's body to the ground.""
For more information please go to the Humane Society. Please Please help by writing a letter of protest so that yet another "celebrity" doesn't get away scott free!
I certainly hope that this isn't anything that isn't postable. If it is, I am truly sorry. I just thought everyone should know.

I am speechless.......I love animals of all kind. We don't have any two legged children, just a very furry persian kitty.....You have to wonder why in the world someone would be so cruel.

While this is very disturbing info to hear about it is common practice in the south. The only reason it is such a big story is because it is Michael Vick. What about all the other "normal" people that are charged each year with this exact same crime but we never hear about it. Instead of going after Vick alone the Humane Society should be focusing on letting the word out about signs to look for so everyone of us could report this crime if possible. Remember these people he is charged with are supposedly his family and why not use Vick as the scapegoat?? They are figuring he will get the heat, guilty or not, and take it off of them.

Excuse me, but dog fighting is illegal in all 50 states, check the law. The difference with this and why we are hearing about this is because he is a celebrity/sports figure and kids look up to him, yes this might happen all the time and we don't hear about it, but that does not mean it is right, and I do not consider anyone who does this as NORMAL!..... he is a poor example!

I personally don't care if you are the Pope or Joe Blow, as stated by Carol it is ILLEGAL, period. I hear about the dog fighting rings being busted all of the time. I live in the Dallas area, and they are really cracking down on it, FINALLY! Michael Vick is NOT being used as a scapegoat. If you read the entire article you find out that this ring has been under surveillance for a long time now. It wasn't a one time thing. There were undercover agents WATCHING him as he was involved in the actions, seeing him in the act.
Personally, I am a major fan of football as are sooooo many others. If it wasn't for us, people such as Vick wouldn't have a job because there wouldn't be a demand for the sport. So why SHOULDN'T one feel that those in the public eye be held to higher standards? WE keep them famous. He makes MILLIONS and MILLIONS because of us. He endorses products, (not for much longer though) that OUR CHILDREN want and buy. Is that really the kind of mentor you want for the children of today? I think we have enough problems in the world without some rich spoiled celebrity thinking that he/she can do anything and get away with it.
Perhaps if ALL of the rich and famous of this world were treated like the rest of us poor slobs, then this kind of thing wouldn't happen anymore. Paris Hilton would have done her time in jail no matter how much she cried. Lindsey Lohan would have been held accountable too and her new "anklet" wouldn't be a fashion statement. Michael Irvin (Cowboys) would have been fired from the NFL and thrown in prison for all of his cocaine busts.
One thing I know for sure is if it was me that had been driving drunk, been busted for drugs, or got caught doing any other heinous crime, I would wind up with the book thrown at me and I would never see the light of day again. I can assure you that since I don't have millions to hire a lawyer to get me off scott free this is what would happen. I probably wouldn't hear society rallying for my release either or pleading that I am just "misunderstood".
Everyone has a right to their opinion, and that I respect. I just hope that sometime soon everyone will be held accountable for their own actions and not have it blamed on music, tv, video games, etc.
I also hope that everyone involved in the killing of these dogs will be given an "eye for an eye" treatment. Therefore, they should be hosed down with water and have a battery cable go from their tongues to their testicles and then electricute them as they have done to the dogs that lost. Afterall, I know Vick has lost a game or two!
<steps down off of my soap box>
Thanks for indulging me and reading my view. I hope that you will share your feelings too.

I agree, and could not of said that any better, I too believe in an eye for an eye, and for anyone to think it is ok to hurt an animal for any reason let alone a human being that is sick.

I wanted to step in here because I feel like krodiguez is being misunderstood.
First of all, k says this:
What about all the other "normal" people that are charged each year with this exact same crime but we never hear about it.
k acknowledges that it's illegal, and is simply saying that it is a common crime we do not hear about because someone famous is not usually involved.
And, when k says this:
Remember these people he is charged with are supposedly his family and why not use Vick as the scapegoat??
K is saying his family is using him as a scapegoat. And in reality, they are. What are the names of the other people involved?
Not trying to cause hate and discontent, I just feel like this person has been misunderstood and is getting flack for something that was not said.

Basically it is wrong for ANYONE to do it. This issue should not of came out just cause Mike Vick is charged with it. What about the other people that do it all the time everywhere. I know that in Chicago there is alot of dog fighting. They should all be shut down and charged. It is so cruel. I wouldnt even have the heart to harm an animal (or in this case watch one kill another). I even have trouble killing spiders. :D

I think we have beat this one to death....abuse is abuse no matter who does it, and if anyone sees it they should call the police asap, and let them handle it.
I called the police one time when I saw a child in a baby seat all alone in the car....that is abuse too! I could not believe that a person would do that to there own kid. This is when a cell phone is so nice to have!

Agreed!
I have seen people leave their child in a baby seat all alone in a car before too. It sickens me! I have never called the police, but I have waited inside my car until the parent came back, just to make sure the baby was safe until mom or dad returned.
When you call the police, do they respond immediately? I never called because I didn't think they police would have enough time to get there before the parent returned to the car.

If you ever see a child alone in a car call the police! It is child abuse/neglect, and the police respond asap!! that is a priority for them...always get/give the license plate number too just incase the car leaves before the police come, this way they have a report on it and the license number and will follow up on it.

I cannot stand anyone who does anything to harm a child. That is so terrible. I would report abuse to children any day.

When the temperatures start getting into the 100's here in Texas is when we start seeing the news stories about "a child being left in a hot locked car and was found dead several hours later." What always amazes me is when the parent(s) say, "I don't know how this happened!?!" WHAT??? You don't know how it happened??? I suppose they are also the ones that get pregnant and say "I don't know how this happened."

who cares if he is being used as a "scapegoat"? (thats someone elses term, not mine) if he did it, HE IS GULITY. Does calling him a scapegoat negate the fact that he allegedly did it? good lord, there is always a group of people who have to claim that someone is being used as a scapegoat, when they dont seem to care that the people DID IT. and what does it matter if it is illegal or not: maiming, killing, injuring, shooting, fighting, etc etc ANY dog, cat, etc are signs of a sick, possibly sociopathic mind. A large majority of sociopaths have several things in common: bedwetting, a fascination with fire/arson and torturing or killing of animals. And I live in the Deep South and we also have ****fighting which is a sick, inhuman and inhumane acivity. But it isnt JUST in the south that this happens, so let's not do any
generalizations about this. And the people who paid to watch, stood around to watch, helped in an way, dug the graves, or knew anything at all about this activity and did nothing but sit around in silent acquiescence are themselves JUST as guilty as Vick and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Suspending people from a team makes me laugh--what a pitiful excuse for punishment!!! Those poor, poor animals--God made them just as he made everyone of us and they were treated as human-generated killing machines. They never had a chance for love in this world.

I couldn't agree more! They need to fire his sorry butt, making million's! this should apply across the board to all people weather they be professional's or not that breaking the law no matter who you are is NOT acceptable. I heard that Nike dropped him and the new shoes they were coming out with that had his endorsment, good for Nike to take a stand and scrap it!

You're taking your anger out on the wrong people. No one here is trying to generalize or say that it's not a horrible thing, for Pete's sake. We all agree that it's a horrible thing!
You said this:
And the people who paid to watch, stood around to watch, helped in an way, dug the graves, or knew anything at all about this activity and did nothing but sit around in silent acquiescence are themselves JUST as guilty as Vick and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Which is exactly what krodriguez meant when he/she said Vick was being the scapegoat. Go re-read the post.

I think we all agree this is wrong, and I think this was good for us to either agree / have different views, I think we have said all that can be said for this sorry situation, so I am closing this thread, you can still view it you cannot post on it any longer.
