I have used coupons for so many years it is like second nature to me, I clip them weekly and then I have a friend save her coupons from the paper for me also. This is the first year where I am saving all of my grocery receipts so I can total the savings from coupons at the end of the year. My very best savings so far this year is $58.30 on one trip to the store, that was so much fun!! Our local Von's grocery store had sent out coupons for $10.00 off if you spent $50.00, that combined with all the coupons I used that day and them doubling the coupons (for a short time they are doing this) I saved that much! Now that was fun!

CVS drug store gives out coupons for money off on your receipt, I just had one that had $7.50 off anything in the store and one for $4.00 off any purchase, I had a raincheck for Folgers Coffee at $5.49 for the large can, I just used that raincheck and both coupons and paid a total of $15.95 for 5 large cans of Folgers, that was a nice savings!!
Ok, what is your best savings, and do you use the coupons weekly? I feel it's like found money!

last week I saved $16 on a $46.00 order!! My cereal and atkins shakes were both free plus I had several $1 off coupons on cleaners.I was tickled with the savings!! FYI Those atkins shakes didn't get a thumbs up from me.Even free I can't drink them!

I use as many coupons as I can as well. I really love free product coupons! I can't remember what my very best deal was, right off hand. There have been many of them! I probably do best at Walgreen's. I really love it when I have a good product coupon, and then I end up getting the item free after rebate to boot! They are actually paying me to buy the product!

Okay, I remember a good coupon deal. One time, Target had a box of Nicorette gum marked down to $8.00. I had a coupon to get $10 off, then I turned around and sold it on eBay for $20! Gotta love coupons and eBay!

I am absolutely coupon crazy too!! The most we ever saved with coupons and in store (Giant Eagle) savings was about $75!!!! That was insane! My husband was so tickled, he started doing all the shopping just to see how much he could save...although I do remember him coming home with items I had never heard of before! lol! The best part about shopping at Giant Eagle is the fuel perks, though. Right now they are giving you $.20 off every gallon for every $50 you purchase, including gift cards! Last week we filled up my car for $6.00!!! :D

Being able to buy gift cards really helps...If we are going to go to dinner, we just swing by the grocery store and pick up a $50 gift card, and there's another $.20 off gas! Same with clothes shopping, etc! Does anyone else get fuel perks?

Nada, lol, but then again I live in a resort town, almost everything is costly especially in our small gift shops....and gasoline is more costly than down the hill....meaning I live on top of the mountain.....so down the hill (as I call it) gasoline is 25 cents or more cheaper...

Thats funny!! It made me remember another good deal.At one time you could sell cigarette coupons on ebay.I didn't smoke and would get all these coupons in the mail then I sold them on ebay.It was amazing I could sell $100 worth of dollar of coupons and they would bring an easy $50-60. Oh the good ol days!! Thanks for the memory!!

My receipt says I saved 54% today....love it!!

Yes, for a short time they are doubling them, it is only because they remodeled the store, I have no idea how long this will last, lol I had a coupon for $10.00 off on a $50.00 purchase, then I used my Lassie coupon for the free dog food, that was $6.79 off, plus the other coupons I used, it was a good day!

my husband would often tease me about using coupons so when we took an extended vacation and visited several states we stopped at the state's welcome center and picked up the booklet with motel/hotel and restaurant coupons. I made a believer out of him when we often saved almost half on motel/hotel rates and lots of discounts on food. He learned to like "couponing " fast!!!

Beleive me this is the first time I have saved this much! But I had another $10.00 off coupon if you spent $50.00, then I had coupons for Glucerna Cereal, $5.00 and another coupon for Atkins Shakes, that was another $9.99 plus they gave me 10% off my entire bill and the other coupons I used that were doubled.....Yahoo! it sure added up today. I am taking advantage of the double coupons while they have them, it will end shortly, it is only because they remoldeled the store, as soon as this is over it is back to single coupons.....

I LIVE IN SOUTH FLORIDA. BEST WAY I USE MY COUPONS: I CLIP AND PRINT THEM, I THEN GET ALL THE ADS OUT OF THE NEWSPAPER LIKE CVS, WALGREENS,WALMART,KMART,PUBLIX,WINN-DIXIE,ETC. THEN I GO THROUGH ALL THE ADS, CIRCLE THE ITEMS THAT I WANT, ALSO I USE THE STICKY POST-IT NOTES TO FLAG ONLY THE PAGES OF ITEMS THAT I AM GOING TO GET. THEN I AM OFF TO ONLY ONE STORE WITH ALL MY COUPONS AND ALL MY ADS. THE KEY IS TO NOT ONLY USE THE COUPONS BUT ALSO TO PRICE MATCH THE ITEMS THAT I HAVE SELECTED FROM ALL THE ADS. WORKS FOR ME. SAVE A TON OF MONEY EVERY TIME. PLEASE TELL ME WHAT YOU ALL THINK. I AM NEW TO THESE FORUMS, NEED FEEDBACK. THANK YOU :)

I am really impressed with everyones coupon saving skills! I try to keep some in my wallet for products that I buy every week but when I get to the store, I forget to use them. Usually it is because one of my kids are talking to me or someones walking off, or my cell phone is ringing,,,etc. I'll have to try taping them to my forehead or something.;)

Kroger Food Store gives 10 cent off per gallon with 100.00 spent on products. If you have their credit card you get 15 cents off per gallon.
Its a good savings but we only use it if we need a full tank of gas because if your only topping off or getting a small dollar amount it is not worth it as they still take off the full 100.00 from your total purchases. :(

Back when I lived by Kroger, I used to always get great deals. They had a coupon exchange in there and I would go to it first and would find several things that would end up free after they doubled it. They ended up getting rid of it, probably because they were losing too much money. They didn't use to have any restriction on the number of identical coupons you could use either back then. I used to almost always save more than I spent. If I got say $80 worth of food, I would only spend $30 or $40 on it. I sure do miss those days!!

Stores do not lose any money by the use of coupons, they not only get face value they get 8 cents or handling, depending on the coupon, just read the small print, lol so they make out ok, I don't feel sorry for them at all, I proudly use those coupons! lol

I don't feel sorry for them either, but when you catch something they have put on sale for say 99 cents and they double the mfr coupon of 50 cents, they are only getting 49 cents for the product because they are eating (so to speak) the other 50 cents they doubled. I am sure they lose some money when it is one of their "loss leaders" that you are using double coupons on. But I say, their loss is my gain ;)

mom363546
07-28-2007, 05:32 PM
Loss leaders are often sold to that store at a steal! Making it affordable to sell it so cheap. You are correct they don't get the doubling part back. They get face value plus however many cents.(the fine print). The very first store I worked at when I was sixteen had a young girled who worked part time her title was a coupon clipper.I always felt that seemed dishonest! But thats all she did was clip coupons from leftover papers etc.. as well as handle incoming from the registers.

Another time real quick later in years I worked in a grocery store for over 10 yrs. Velveeta had a special going on for the store(lets say cheaper buy the pallet).Inside each box just under the lid was a $1 off your next purchase coupon that should have went to the buyer or customer as I like to be called.12 storesso figure that times each store and ours was the smallest.

They had employees (***'t managers the salaried ones) take out the coupon put the lid back on it and we sold them.So I don't feel bad using coupons at all! I know how stores play games!!

I go in and out of couponing, depending on how much time (and money) I have to get them, clip em, organize em, look at the ads and coupons, etc. Since im starting all over again, and trying to help my church, community, and single mom friend with coupons and deals, I couldnt believe start sampling had this! This is great! Out here, in the middle of nowhere (lol), we have one grocery store (which does not double or triple), we have a WM and a CVS. I got great deals before and look forward to doing it again.

I use coupons religiously. Everytime I shop I save at least $20-$50 dollars. I love usings coupons at stores that double them. That is how I usually stock up on cleaning stuff. Don't feel bad Carol, I live in Kansas and it's still $3.09 here too. I usually drive the 20 miles over to Missouri to fill up since it's about 20-30 cents cheaper a gallon there! Of course, if you drive about 100 miles of here in Kansas, it's cheaper up there too. Go figure!

do you have a giant eagle near you? We shop there (both of us in different cities) just because of fuel perks!! They will give you .10 off for every $50 you spend...although right now they are promoting .20 per $50!! The last time we filled up ~ both of us, we spent .38 per gallon!!! It is so worth shopping just at one store!! PLUS if you buy gift cards you get .20 off per $50 -- going out to eat, stop and get a gift card! Going clothes shopping, houswares shopping, even buying airline tickets? They have over 200 different gift cards!!!

Oh and I heard Sam's club is offering discount fuel now too!!!

Kroger also has fuel perks, but I like Giant Eagle because if you're going to shop at a department store like Kohl's etc, why not buy a gift card and get your $.20 a gallon? My daughter got $1.00 off a gallon on her fill up just the other day!

Wow! I wish we had gas perks here in MO! The best we get is 3cents off per gallon if we use a Wal-Mart gift card to get gas at the Murphy Station. Our Sam's has gas also but it is only a penny cheaper than the other stations and it is not worth driving to that side of town to save a penny per gallon.

When I worked at the main office of a grocery store chain doing bookkeeping, we used to send our coupons to a coupon dealer ( I can't rember what it was actually called) So.. we did not get the 8 cents per coupon because we did not do all the sorting and sending in to get the money. It was not worth our time. They gave us face value plus half of the 8 cents. So they got 4 cents for being the middle man. Grocery stores really jack up the prices. We used to pay 12 cents for a loaf of bread and then sell them to consumers for over a dollar a loaf. Granted I was working there 12 years ago but we pay so much more for groceries than they do to put them on the shelves. Of course, I know they must make money to pay the bills. I was responsible for 4 grocery stores bills and not one of them ever had an electric bill that was less than $3,000 per month.

Yes we have a giant eagle kinda close, but the kroger is closer and I like them better, our giant eagle store is an old Big Bear store and it is old and dirty, so I don't go in there to much. I never remember about the gift cards until after we go out to eat!

With the sale price plus my coupons plus the bonus rewards I was OWED $18 in rebate money PLUS I have a $2 mail in rebate on the Excedrin. My total was really -$20!!!!

These drug store prices are more expensive than, say wal mart but when they are giving you the full price in rebates plus you may have coupons how can you go wrong?! So much fun!!

We have cents off of gas here at our Tom Thumb Stores & Kroger. It is 10cents off with every $50 purchase, however, it doesn't accumulate like it does at Giant Eagle. So if we spend $200, we still only get 10cents off!

All of our grocery stores do double and triple coupons (Tom Thumb, Kroger and Albertsons) Up to $0.39 is tripled, and $.050 is doubled. Sometimes Albertsons will go crazy and do a "3 days only" Double coupons up to $1.00!!! I love that!

I live in California and I've noticed in the past couple of years that a few supermarkets are getting very picky about what coupons they'll accept. For instance, they won't take internet printed coupons and a couple of weeks ago the cashier informed me that the coupon I handed him had 2 letters missing from the coupon (it was cut wrong) in the paragraph section, but the UPC code, the expiration date and the amount the coupon was for was all intact. I told him that as long as the exp. date, product info., coupon total and the UPC code were intact that the coupon was still good. :p

I've also noticed that when a really good coupon (especially if it's a free product or a $2.00 or more savings coupon) comes out in the Sunday newspaper a few markets will either raise the price of the product or take it off the shelf until the coupon has expired!!

Has anyone had problems at their market such as this?

I love using coupons my husband has finally agreed that it saves a lot of money. He would never use them before and now before he goes to the store he always asks if I have a coupon. My best deal so far was 200 jars of baby food for $6.00 my husband was shocked. I also had him buy me one of the zipper closed binders with a pocket on the insided for my calculator, cell phone, pens, and credit cards and then I bought the clear plastic baseball card holders so that I could use them for my coupons. I also put a notebook inside so that I could have my list to use and cross off items as I purchased them. Using the binder is so much easier than using one of the small coupon holders. I have everything organized into different categories and can flip right to the section that I need pull out the coupon and put it in a different zippered pocket for when I get up to the register. My husband thought I was crazy until I explained what I was going to use it for.

well duh me! on the free product coupon & the empty shelves i thought ppl had gotten there on sun/mon to take advantage of the coupon. i think if i knew for a fact that the grocery store was removing the product from the shelves I would take the time to call either the grocery store headquarters &/or the product HQ. i'm sure the product HQ would NOT be too happy to hear that the grocery store had taken their product OFF the shelves when they put out a coupon. w/a free product coupon i was able to get the new cube type dish washer soap. 2 cans for only tax. i like it & as soon as all my other dish washer soap is gone will be buying it.

I know the posting about Harris Teeter tripling coupons over the weekend was on here and now I can't find it.

I want to thank Coupon Princess for posting that. I only have one grocery chain in my town so I have to drive 45 minutes away to go anywhere other than there and the military commissary. I don't get the other stores sales fliers because I live so far away so I wouldn't have known about the triple coupon deal.

I got the best deal at Harris Teeter with tripling my coupons. I got 69.68 worth of groceries for $0.32!!!!!!! YES you read that right. I only spent 32 cents for almost $70 worth of groceries!!

Please, please, please post when you know of a grocery or drug store doing double or triple coupons along with any restrictions such as limit of .99 or only 20 coupons at a time. It saved me a ton of cash!!!

WOW on the coupon savings! That is awesome! I never heard of that store before. We don't have them here. We have only Wal-Mart, Food 4 Less and Price Cutter. Price Cutter doubles coupons but no triples. They used to do double plus 5 cents. My best bet is to get the sale ads and go to Wal-Mart for price match it saves money driving all over town. I use coupons as much as I can but I really don't have the option of waiting for a sale most of the time.

My husband has decided he wants to go shopping with me now, and of course we have to take our three girls(2,4,& 8) So shopping now is not very good for me! I loved doing by myself, so I could find the things that were on sale and use my best coupons, and have some peace while shopping!! But all has changed!! But we went the other night and much to my husbands surprise HE spent $117.00!! but when she rang up all my coupons we only spent $93.00, so he felt better about it! I wish he would just stay home with the girls and let me do it, but you know how men can be!!!

But After I Use All My Coupons, And My Mvp Card For Food Lion I Always Get My Groceries For Half Price. The Most I Ever Spend Is $250. Sometimes I Come Out For Less Than Half Price. That Is For A Months Worth Of Groceries. I Don't Go Back Unless I Run Out Of Bread Or Milk, Stuff Like That. You Can Save Alot More Money When You Use Alot Of Coupons At Once. And Also You Aren't Spending More On Gas To Go To The Store Once A Week.

Finally someone else that shops at Food Lion. I would probably just pee my pants if they would ever do double coupons. I try to go once a week and sale/coupon shop. If I do that, I can usually avoid going to the commissary for a while. I can get most stuff cheaper or at least equal at Food Lion. It's so much easier because it is only 3 minutes away, and it takes me at least 20 minutes to get to the commissary. And then there is always my favorite---Walgreen's, just 5 minutes away!!

As long as you are smart about using coupons for items that you already use, this can really save on those grocery bills. I've used coupons for years and find that if I am careful about comparing coupon price against what I normally pay, it really is like finding extra money

I came to a realization the other day. I spend 30-45 minutes every week combing through the Sunday paper and clipping coupons. Then once a month I spend another 30 minutes going through and weeding out the expired coupons from my organizer.

I've looked at our last few months of grocery bills, and I'm saving about $9 a month using coupons. So I'm spending 3 hours a month or so to save $9. That figures out to about $3 an hour. Totally not worth it for the little bit of money I save. (I've calculated it out, and for it to be worth the time I'm spending, I should be saving about $100 a month using coupons.)

I had two coupons for $1.00 off Treasures candy and they were maked down to $1.50, so I got those for .50!! and the new crunch sticks were $1. and the coupon was for .55 which they doubled!! So they game me that one, I think if you use the coupons for what is on sale it can really help! The coupons trains are a great way to get the coupons you need without spending hours clipping. I love useing coupons and it always saves us money!

I have been shopping with coupons for years and search the circulars every week for things I can stock pile. When I discovered how much I can save I was hooked. Couponing has become a hobby for me.

I purchase a double of issue of the Sunday paper for $2.00 and also collect coupons from my job so that I can have multiples of one item just in case that product goes on sale. I try to shop at store that double's coupons.

Recently, Superfresh in my area offered triple coupons up to .99. Fantastic was on sale for 2.25 and I had 5 coupons for .55 off making all them free. Today I went there again to stock up on frozen green giant veggies on sale for .94 each and I used several .25 each that doubled making them .44 each along with some other items. I purchased 38 items for 28.45. Giant has birds eye steam fresh veggies on sale for 1.00 and there are .35 coupons in the Sunday paper. So I'm on a mission to collect as many as I can!

To see coupons that are coming out in Sundays Paper check out this site: http://taylortownpreview.com/id30.htm

I think you have to enjoy the coupon process to do it. Although it can be time consuming at times it has saved me a TON of money. I saved over $200 in September with coupons and rebates. I probably only spent about $250 so that is almost a %50 savings. I have more food and non-grocery products stocked in my house now that I do coupons and rebates than I ever have in my life!!
I am also willing to buy a product I wouldn't normally buy if it is cheap enough. I figure I will try anything once. For example, I got the Pillsbury ready to bake bars for 0.50 with my coupons- I didn't like them but now I know. On the flip side I got some sweet and salty granola bars by Quaker for 0.30 and I love them.
Coupons are the best!!!

But how much of that was from coupons, and how much was due to sale prices? My concern is how much time I'm spending clipping coupons, when I could be doing more productive things. You still get the sale price whether or not you clip coupons.

If I had a choice between spending 30 minutes a week clipping coupons and saving $30 total on my grocery bill, or spending 0 minutes clipping coupons and saving $25 on my grocery bill... I'd rather save $25 and spend no time clipping coupons. My time is worth more than $10 a hour.

(And yes, everyone, I clip coupons while I watch TV or talk on the phone. But that's still 30 wasted minutes that I could otherwise be spending doing work for clients and making money, or just enjoying myself.)

I went to Walgreen today - I don't shop there often - items were a total of $47.00. After coupons I paid about $20.00. Since I don't shop Walgreen often, I don't like it because I have to search for everything but the specials were several things that I needed and the prices were good. I also had two manufacturers coupons for $5.00 off on Tylenol. So it was worth the time since I was near the Walgreen for another errand.

elliedoom, I would estimate that I spend about 1 hour per week sorting coupons and planning my trips.
I have a benefit cause my Mother-in-Law sends me her, my sister, and Grandma's coupons. I live in a military town and our paper gives VERY FEW coupons. So I just sort the coupons she sends me, I don't really have to clip very many. It takes me the longest to match up the sales and rebate deals to the coupons I have simply because I have so many coupons. The 3 drug stores I go to aren't out of my way and I have my sales flier circled so I know exactly what I am going for.
I am new at this so I haven't experienced what it is like to not get my rebates yet. So far I have gotten everything I have submitted but I can tell you that I scan and save my receipt and all the rebate requirement stuff like forms and upc symbols in case a rebate request gets lost.
My favorite store is CVS since they print your 'extra bucks' right on your receipt, nothing to mail.
Now that I think about it I probably spend the most time in the grocery store cause I will pull the coupons that will expire during that grocery period and decide if it is worth using while I am in the store to compare the price to the coupon. That probably adds 30 minutes to my big grocery trips but I only do big grocery shopping twice a month.
I know it sounds like work but I really enjoy the whole process. It really doesn't take me that long either. Let's say that I saved $200 last month, as I estimated. If I did spend 1 hour a week that is like $50 an hour I am making!!! Now if we add the additional hour a month from the grocery trips that comes to a little less but I still enjoy it and find the savings to be worth it.
How fun is it to go to a register with over $60 worth of groceries and only pay 30 something cents!!!!!

I got alot of items for free and at the end of my transaction I received a catalina coupon for a free case of of their store brand of water! :D .

I'm presently stock piling coupons for a future triples sale. I think the pattern is for triples at this store turns out to be once per month. Superfresh used to double coupons up to $1.00 but changed their policy to up to $.99. Still not bad, but not being able to get $1's doubled is kind of a buzz kill at times. Triples up to .99 is great for m:)

That was a huge savings!! I am a stockpiler myself....I have food in places that no one would ever find without a map....my son makes fun of me, especially if I happen to run out of something, it's MOM I can't believe you are out of XYZ... but I hate to run out of anything.
I wish we had a market that would triple the coupon value here.

I am the same way Carol. I have tons of food in the house and hate when I run out of something. It just makes things feel off in the house.;)

Yeah I think that may be it...and then I have to have 2 or 3 or more of eveything..... especially when it is on sale. I have enough Pasta, all different kinds to feed my entire city I think! along with the sauce too!
Alot of it comes from growing up, we never had a lot of anything, and my mom never shopped like I do.

I totally agree with all you. I cannot seem to buy one of something unless its a pricey item. My household consists of me and DH and my family is blown away when they come MD and see how well stocked my pantry, deep freezer and personal care items are stocked. I cannot remember the last time I paid for toothpaste and deodorant. Im collecting lots of coupons for the next triples sale and purchased a larger coupon organizer to hold all my coupons.

I know the posting about Harris Teeter tripling coupons over the weekend was on here and now I can't find it.

...

Please, please, please post when you know of a grocery or drug store doing double or triple coupons along with any restrictions such as limit of .99 or only 20 coupons at a time. It saved me a ton of cash!!!

That's right, Harris Teeter WAS tripling last week. I am signed up on their email list (also signed up to Lowes Foods and Food Lion) and get a weekly email from them all. It's definitely a good idea to sign up on their mailing lists, although you still have to give each email a good hard look to see if there are any triple coupon events (they are usually listed at the very bottom). My mom and I went to the grocery store with our 20 coupons each and ended up spending $67 and saving $68. I'll post the next time I see one. On the other hand, Harris Teeter and Lowes both double up to 99 cents on a daily basis around here (NC).

I use coupons every time I shop. A few days ago I had a coupon for $10.00 off a $20.00 purchase at Goody's (clothing). I bought a sweat shirt, a long sleeve tee shirt, and a short sleeve top. It was also on a Wednesday with is "seniors" day and I received an additional 15% discount. The total cost of the items at regular price was $84.00. With the after christmas sale (the items were NOT christmas clothes), the $10.00 certificate and the 15% off for being a senior, the total cost was $16.00. Two of the tops will be given to friends/family as birthday gifts. Not bad! I loved it.:)

There is not one grocery store in my area that accepts internet coupons. I have to let so many great ones just pass me by! When I see the printables online, I would write the companies and ask to be sent the same coupons that they have on their website.

I really wish that they would realize that with all of the fraud out here, not many stores do not accept them.

http://www.walmartfacts.com/search/default.aspx?srchtxt=coupon+policy

This is Walmarts corporate coupon policy. Print it out and take it with you to Walmart and ask the Manager why his store is not going by policy. Then take his name and email Walmart corporation and let them know that your store is not abiding by the policy and how much of a burden that is for you, etc. See what happens. You never know!

The Wal-Mart near me will accept computer generated coupons if they will scan. Don't know how long this will last but it was working last Wednesday.

I used two of Kraft's Live Active coupons that were computer generated.
The two packages of cheese were about $5.75 and I paid $2.00. This is a really good product. I would like to have more of the coupons but have printed the maximum number allowed from coupon offer on-line.

When you guys talk about doubling or tripling up coupons does that mean the coupon says you can use it more than once or what?

It means the store will double or triple the face value of the coupon. IE.. the coupon is worth $1 off. The store if they double it will take $2 off, same goes for triple it would be $3 off. Hope this helps.

Our local Wal-Mart will accept them without any problems too. My last trip to Wal-Mart I saved $58.00

Harris Teeter had 2lb frozen ez peel white shrimp (diveined even) buy 1 get 2 (yes 2) free. The bag was 17.98 making it 6 pounds for $3 a pound. I had a $3 off your order coupon that printed last time I shopped at Harris Teeter (using eVIC card). So I got 6lbs of shrimp for $15 - 2.50/lb. I am happy - freezer is full. I went to Aldi's yesterday and stocked up on Cederlane frozen entrees ($2.99 ea).

My Wal-Mart takes them. It specifically states on their site that they will take these coupons. One time my Wal-Mart gave me a hastle and I had them call over a CSM. She said they could take them as long as they scanned. The problem was...the cashier had scanned the coupon and it was asking for an amount and she just kept hitting enter. Once she put in the amount, it went through no problem. I try to go to the same cashiers most of the time and I haven't had a problem since.

You can go to Wal-Mart site and print off their policy about coupons and take it with you. They HAVE to take them!:)

I have found that if you call the company of products, whether it is a compliment or complaint, they will send you free product coupons AND cents (or dollars) off coupons. You may have to ask, but MOST of the time, they will send them to you. If they ask if you want to be on their e-mail list, I do it and get coupons on a regular basis from a lot of them.

I like to save up my free product coupons as long as I can and use all of them @ once. Now that feels rewarding!

My best savings ever was @ Stop N Shop in Groton, CT. I had diapers, baby food,(my daughter was about 6 mos old) lots of meat, tons of cereal, all that I would need for 2 weeks of groceries. It totaled to $96 and I paid only $2.81!!!!!! Of course, this was 1994, and they were tripling coupons to full value(if it was a $1 coupon, I got $3 off, even if the product was less than $3!!), not how they do it now, only up to 0.50 and a limit of 4 coupons.

I will always be a coupon addict.....it's better than anything else I could be addicted to.....and I hope to pass this onto my kids as my mom did to me. We work hard for our money and there is no reason we should have to pay full price for anything!!!!

I have done pretty well at CVS and with over 900 in savings and 20.xx out of pocket spending YTD. I started CVS'ing in Novemeber and I must admit I am addicted. I keep a binder with all of my coupons and it makes it quite easy to go through when I am shopping and love it!!!

Another great place to shop is Target they have there own coupons combined with manufacturer coupons it works out to be a big savings, I have learned to do most of my shopping there and then purchase meats and misc products at my grocery store. I don't have a super target by me so I can't take advantage of there meat and produce products that they offer but it might work for some of you. Something to look into if you have not taken advantage of their savings.

For some reason I don't do to well when I am at the grocery store unless they are having triple coupons, which is like once a year. I am on the east coast and it seems I am missing something when it comes to couponing at the grocery store.

I moved your post to this thread because it is more appropriate, you posted what you saved on coupons, B1G1 and extra bucks.

I received 3 coupons for $2 off Honey Bunches of Oats Chocolate Clusters, and it's $1.98 at WalMart, so they came out free, and I got $0.06 off the rest of my purchase! I also got a coupon for a free box of Vive Kashi cereal from Vocalpoint (along with a sample, by the way), and I spent $17 on 33 items summing up the other stuff with other coupons!

:) When I looked at the inserts in the Sunday newspaper I decided to devote Monday, June 30, to "deal shopping" at CVS, Walgreen & Winn-Dixie.

At CVS I bought Cottonnel, Crest toothpaste (2), Swiffer starter kit & swiffer refills. The regular pice of these items was $31.37, Sale price was $22.35, I had $8.75 in coupons. My final cost was $13.85 plus I got $6.00 in extra bonus bucks! This was like getting $31.37 worth of items for $7.85!

At Walgreen, I got Polident, Colgate toothpaste (2), NOrthern tissue (12 giant rolls), Dawn dish liquid, Kleenex (2), and Freedent gum (4 @1.19 each)
The regular price was $29.49, sale price $20.13, coupons $10.76, final cost $9.37.

Actually I don't ususally buy gum of any kind, however when the cashier rang up the toothpaste a coupon for free Freedent was generated. Since I don't go to Walgreen often I decided to go ahead and get the gum while I was there. The gum was free ($1.19) so all I paid was tax. When the cashier rang up the gum, another coupon was generated. This happened four times! I finally told her that if it generated another coupon to give it to someone else, as I really don't want any more gum!

At Winn-Dixie Pert shampoo was on sale for $1.99 - regular price $3.69. I had $7.00 in coupons so I got five bottles of Pert for $2.95. Not bad!

I enjoyed doing this and will do it again. If some items are free or nearly free I will donate them to a charity.

Anyone else have problems using printed coupons in different stores???

I went to Walmart and was ready to use some of my printed coupons and they would not take them! They absolutely refused and when i tried to point out the watermarks and how to spot a real from a fake they flat out said that "if it is printed from the internet they will not take them real or fake!" This was the manager and assistant manager on the floor at the time!

I had to argue with someone in Pathmark as well before she would take them.

What is the point of getting great coupon deals online if no one wants to take them?

My boyfriend joked and said get some shiny paper and a copier with decent color and they may take them faster!

Am I alone in this?

I have not have this problem either. But that's probably because I don't want to be put into a situation where they refuse a IP, So I asked around to people I know if different stores take them before I actually went and tried it.

The WalMarts I go to in IL take them, but one time I was in Indiana and went to one and they wouldn't. I have heard of some people that print out WalMart's policy that says they take them and show that when/if they have a problem. You may want to contact corporate and see what they have to say about your situation. The only other time I wasn't allowed to use them was at a small grocery store. I told the cashier guy that I didn't know that they didn't take them. He said he didn't either, until he was yelled at for taking them-lol. I rarely shop there, so that one isn't a big deal to me. I have a feeling that more and more stores are going to stop accepting them. It's ashame that fraud and the worry of fraud prevents us from doing something that's totally legitimate :(

I don't know if the Wal-mart stores down here in Georgia take printed coupons or not, but I don't mind asking. I do recall there being a bit of a brouhaha either last year or the year before about counterfeit printed coupons (the ones you print at home), resulting in both my local Kroger & Ingle's not accepting them (they even had signs posted on the doors & at the cash registers to that effect). Not sure if they've gone back to accepting them or not since I don't use them (I'm on a Mac & have learned that some of the coupon printing software ain't compatible with it -- pooey!).

Have learned that my local Wally-world won't accept coupons for "free" items or BOGO items either (not even for gum).

I do like, though, having the Proctor & Gamble coupons linked to my Kroger card -- all I have to do is pick out the ones I want online & when I go in the store, the coupon amount is automatically deducted from the price when the cashier scans my card. That's really nice & convenient.

Hi all! OK- I read the WHOLE thread... trying to learn something new. Love to use coupons myself. We don't have stores that double or triple here either (they used too!) :( And certain stores won't take internet coupons either- although I haven't tried in 5 years

I will have to see if the local store have policies on internet coupons- great idea!

For any of you pressed for time on coupon cutting I have found there is something wonderful called 'children' :D that love to do it! Mine, of course, are old enough and like it- they cut out ALL the coupons and whatever Mom doesn't want goes to Aunt Lori. (And for the money you save a dollar or two can be given to the kids for cutting them out! ;))

Still haven't received my Sunday paper and I'm going NUTS...so I guess I will have to go and get one (called the paper twice already)

For those who use the coupon sites- do you have a regular coupon holder or do you have binders? What do you use?

I went to target yesterday to find out they are no longer taking their internet coupons so good luck.
I like going to kmart, lowes food, harris teeter, bilo the most they have awesome deals and if you do it right you barely pay anything. I have seven children so I have gotten good at making it work.

Target is no longer taking the printable $5 off of $25 toy purchase due to fraud in some areas. They still should be taking regular internet coupons as long as they scan. There are posts at the registers, but it pertains to the toy coupon only.

I saw this posted by the register at Target yesterday... But I had a printed internet coupon and the cashier took it, but it wasn't for a toy, but it was still an internet coupon so I think they will still take most as long as the computer will let them scan it :o

I am in north carolina near charlotte so if you have these stores around there are deals and cutting coupons. Kmart has general mills cereal 5 for 10 and there is a 1.00 off 2 coupon, Sauve body wash 3 for 5.00 we have a buy one get one free coupon and a 1.00 off two coupon that makes them 6 cents for two of them. If you sign up for their email you get a five dollar coupon. I got 8 body washes and 36 boxes of cereal and spent 12.00 dollars after all that. I have seven children so I know the deals if you are around me I will gladly help you out with showing you the deals. Foodlion has lysol wipes BOGO and we have a 1.00 off coupon I love it!!!!!!!!!!

Our local walgreen accepted both coupons for my purchase (store & manfacturer coupon). It is confusing when different locations of the same store operate by different rules. The "one coupon per product" usually means if you use two coupons you must purchase two items. This is usually dictated by the manfacturer. Keep us updated!

My grandma and mom always clipped coupons, now the tradition has been passed on to me. The most my bf and I have saved was at Food Lion, we had $24 in MVP savings and $17 in coupon savings (on a $250 trip). People that don't want to waste their time are missing out.

I have been stocking up on any of the $3.00 of any two huggies cleanteam items. I live on a military base (I am Army veteran, husband is active duty Navy...) and I shop at the commissary which is SO much cheaper than regular grocery stores...so the Huggies cleanteam wipes (these are the flushable kind) are only $1.85 so after using the coupon I only pay .70 for two of them. I am stocking up on as many as I can...I just bought 20 of the coupons off of ebay. You can never have too many baby wipes around!!:)

A month ago, I decided as an experiment to stop clipping coupons. Guess what? My grocery bills are nearly the same. Plus now that I'm not wasting my time clipping, sorting, and tossing old coupons, I have an extra hour or two a week to devote to other things!

Thats interesting to hear that your grocery bill is practically the same. My guess is that your buying fewer items, or going to different stores.
I don't know about anyone else, but since I have started clipping coupons, I am saving SO much money. But like my mom taught me, it's not about using coupons, it's about using them at the right time.

The key to saving money with coupons is making sure you are using them on sale or clearence items. If I didnt use coupons I couldnt buy half of what I buy. Just last week I bought 4 boxes of special K bars for 1.99 because of sales and my coupons. Otherwise they would have been 2.99 a box.
My guess is you were just picking the items up just because you had a coupon. When you do that, you do end up spending the same amount, because you get a product because you want it not because you need it.
It is time consuming for me but I spent 75.00 for 3 weeks worth of groceries, without coupons I would have spent a fortune.

Yep, I agree with you.
This past week CVS had the BOGO loreal deal, and there were also BOGO coupons out there. The original price is 4.49 and I got for bottles for free. Before my coupons, I was using suave, simply because it was the cheapest. Now that i'm using coupons, i'm able to buy better quality items for less money that a bottle of suave.
It is time consuming, but I think it's worth it. My goal for the summer was the have a little stockpile of things I tend to spend money on during the school year. Now, I have enough shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, and shave gel to last me til May. It may not sound like a lot, but every little bit counts when your in college :)

So the coupons saved you $4. How much time did you spend clipping and organizing your coupons to save that $4? I know how much my time is worth per hour, and spending 1-2 hours a week for a mere $4 in savings is simply not worth my time. Maybe some of you with big families see more savings and thus it is worth your time.

DeAnna, try multi-tasking and clip coupons at a time when you would normally just be sitting. For example, I clip coupons while waiting for my computer to boot up, or while I am watching TV. Like you, I save a ton of money using coupons, so it is worth the little bit of extra time it takes for me to clip them.

:( :) I had three coupons for "free meal" at Captain D's (one for me, one for DH & one for son). I went to Captain D's close to the Wal-Mart and showed the coupon and asked if they honored it. The cashier took it in the back "to ask". When she returned she said "No, it does not have a name on it". There was a space for a name and since I had only entered an initial to print the coupons, only one letter appeared in the name area. I asked to talk to the manager. He said "There must be a name here". I said "the only name I use on the computer is my initial, it is shown on the form and here are my drivers license to show that my name begins with that letter. He agreed to take the coupon. The two pieces of fish they chose for my meal must have been punishment for challenging them! They were both extremely small and very over cooked.

Two days later I went to the Captain D's near my home and presented the coupons for my husband and son. These also had only an initial. They were accepted with no questions asked and the meals I received were excellent!
This Captain D's knows how to get return customers! I will visit them again.

If I did not use coupons my grocery trips would cost me close to $150 a week while using coupons only cost me around $25. I buy coupons off ebay as it is much easier that clipping them. I can get 200-300 for around $4. I plan my grocery shopping perfectly to save the most money. Most of what I sell on ebay has been purchased with coupons. Example, I will sell 10 refills cans of Lysol Neutra air freshmatic air freshener for 39.99. Well I only paid 15 cents for each can so.......that is a great money maker! I read different forums and learn tricks for using coupons. I love it!!!

Well $4 here and there adds up. I save about $100 a week on different things. I dont know about you but $400 a month is worth some time and effort to me. I dont have a big family, it's just me and my hubby. But we take the money we save and do other things like go on vacations, pay for gas, ect... It may not be worth it to some, but it sure is a life saver to me:)

The funny thing is that I do most of my coupon shopping on lunch and I make my hubby go with me! Everyone has to decide what's right for their situation. If cutting coupons is not worth it to you, then of course you shouldn't do it. What's the point in making others feel stupid for doing so though?

I was in a coupon train a couple years ago and then had to stop for some reason...I really can't remember. But when I told my husband about the coupon trains being started on here, HE'S the one that told me to do it. I didn't initially want to do it because I didn't think I had the time to cut the coupons and send them out when I was supposed to. Little did I know that the coupon trains would actually make my life easier when shopping. I just got laid off for 2 weeks then I go back for two weeks then I get laid off again until probably January. Needless to say, I'm looking for another job. I guess my point is....with all these other people also taking the time to cut coupons and share them with the rest of us, I only do about 1/6th of the cutting and get LOADS of coupons in return which saves me on my grocery shopping which is important to me right now. You just have to know when to use your coupons. Usually 4 weeks after they come out in the paper it goes on sale. Couponing is like a game to a lot of people I hear. ;) Ok, I guess just my 2 cents that wasn't asked for. :p :D

I usually don't have enough time to just "sit around" either. Most people don't. Everyone is usually busy with their families, jobs and other activities. But if coupons are important to you, you'll make time to clip for 20 minutes, a few times a week. It's not a chore. I bought two papers yesterday, sat down for about 15-20 minutes and clipped. I did it while my laundry was finishing, and before I was going out to dinner with my boyfriend. I'm fortunate to have summers off of school, which also gives me a little bit more time. During the school year, i'm going to have to get just a little bit more creative with how I spend my time. I'm thinking of bringing the coupons to work, and doing it during my lunch... or when I'm waiting for a class to start.

No one is "stupid" for clipping coupons. In fact, were all geniouses in my mind. Most people never even consider couponing to save money. But if you simply do not have any time what so ever...then don't do it. Simple as that.

Not from anyone on the forum.

I realize I wasn't asked about my 2cents on coupons but here goes...
I have been refunding and couponing since 1978. I started when my middle
son was born...he is now 30 yrs old. Couponing and refunding is an everyday
thing in our household. We have had our ups and downs with financial
difficulties...we are not a wealthy or well to do family...we live on a "shoe
string"..we live from paycheck to paycheck. Right now, we are on
unemployment...I've been layed off for months, my husband can't work-I'm
now on my unemployment extention (thank God for that one) and we support
our 12 yr old grandson fully and he has lived with us 24/7 since he was 5.
I am a stock piler like many of you here...if it wasn't for stock piling I would
be standing in line to sign up for food stamps and financial help. There is
nothing wrong with that if it much needed but I for one don't like doing that.
I never have...My couponing has helped in that matter.
I have also made many GREAT friends couponing and sharing-they are like
family.
A couple weeks ago I was standing at the check out and the girl was
scanning my coupons I had given her off my groceries. I had quite a few
along with some FREE cpns I was turning in. The man behind me was standing with his wife and NOT patiently waiting...He looked at me with
daggers in his eye and spoke up....He said, you know my ice cream is
melting and the gallon of milk I have here also will be spoiled by the time I get
to check out. I THEN SAW "RED".....My husband knew what was coming
when he saw the look on my face and walked in the other direction, laughing
my grandson decided it was time to check out the arcade they have there.
LOL I looked at this man and 'exploded'!!!!
I flat out told him he was very RUDE. I told him...I don't even know you.
You don't know me. I told him by the looks of what you have waiting to be
checked out there you are pretty well off, aren't you? He didn't say a word.
I told him for your information-We are living off my unemployment.
If it wasn't for me using coupons we would either be starving or I would be
on Food stamps and "YOU WOULD BE PAYING FOR MY GROCERIES", wouldn't
you??????? His face turned RED and his wife had a smiling smurk on her face.
I didn't say another word and he just stood there with is mouth hanging to
the floor. When the gal was done scanning my coupons I had saved over
$75 on my grocery bill and the cashier told me what a GREAT job I did and
how did I get all those great coupons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Diane, my hats off to you! I too have been clipping coupons for years and years, personally I find it relaxing to clip the coupons.
I do not work, I sit on my behiney at the computer. I can monitor this site, clip coupons, find and print coupons, play games, answer emails, pet the dog, and watch a movie all at once, along with having clothes in the washer and dryer.

I have had those stares at the grocery store, I just smile to myself. Once I had a cashier try to make me feel like 2 cents for using coupons, guess cause I had so many, anyways I just looked at her and said if this store didn't play games with their Von's card (If you don't use it you pay the higher price) and I wasn't on a fixed income, but I guess you wouldn't know what it is to be on a fixed income??? she shut up real quick.

:) :( I am often teased by family members and sometimes by friends about my "couponing". I try to take it in stride and not become offended, but sometimes that is really hard to do. DH & I are both retired (he on diability) and I try to stretch our money in any way I can. I use coupons 99% of the time when I shop for food, cleaning products, paper products and personal care products.

One person who bugs me is my SIL. She would NEVER shop at a thrift store (can't stand to think about wearing something that someone else has worn!). I tell her, if you wash it or have it cleaned, it is just as good as if you had bought it new. She and I are both diabetics. She whined about her glucose meter being old and she wasn't sure if it was working right. I told her several times that almost all the drugstores have meters that you can purchase, mail in rebate form and the meter becomes a freebie. She didn't want to "go to the trouble". Well, DUH! Finally I told her that I have one that I received as a freebie on line and she could have it. By this time she had complained to her doctor about the meter and he gave her one. Unfortunately it required test strips that were not covered by Medicare! When she went to her pharmacy to get the test strips, they gave her a meter that Medicare accepted for the type strips she needed.

She uses a pharmacy which is 25 miles from her current home. They moved to their new home about ten years ago and she has continued to drive the 25 miles to the pharmacy just because "they are so nice". Well, I think it is time she established a relationship with a pharmacy near her. Maybe the cost of gas will encourage her to do so.

I usually have a nice outfit for our family Christmas gathering. She has sometimes asked "Is that from the thrift store? It is really pretty!". I proudly say "yes the whole outfit cost less than five dollars, including the shoes". She sometimes says she want to go to thrift store with me, but once we get there she "can't stand to touch the merchandise". Needless to say, I have only invited her once or twice.

Well, I could go on and on, but I really get fired up when I think of her comments and her lack of handling money in a way that could save them a lot on food and clothing.

Next week I will make my weekly trip to the thrift store (by myself) and enjoy every minute of it!

To my StartSampling friends - keep up the good work, keep the freebies, coupons and suggestions coming!

Well, Thanks Cpogie!!! :)
I am a multi tasker also...not working I am sitting on my "BE" hind...clipping
coupons, watching a movie , washing clothes and fiddling around with
something else besides other things. My hubby is retiring and just waiting for
his first payment now....You turn 62 and still have to wait 2 mo afterwards
to get your first $$$.

Mspete...I am also a GOOD WILL THRIFT store shopper. My grandson who
lives with us is required to wear a uniform to school...consists of a plain
colored polo shirt with no logo and dress pants (no other type) or dress
shorts. These items are expensive even at walmart. A pair of pants is
anywhere from $12-$16 (he wears a mens size) shorts are about the same
price and shirts as well. I can get 3 pair of dress (uniform) shorts, pants or
shirts for the same price as if I paid for ONE at walmart.
Normal price is $3.99 each at the Good Will. The first year the school
system changed over from regular clothes to uniform-I spent over $200
getting him 3 sets of clothes for school. Now he has more than one set
for each day. I have found at the Good Will for myself...clothing still with
the original price tags on them for $3.99-$4.99...I got a nice shirt here not
too long ago when price tag still on and the shirt would of cost me $35
at the original store and I got it half price at the Good Will for $2.50!!!!
I go to the Good Will store each week and on the first Saturday of the month
everything is Half Price...YEE HAAA....
HUGS

Two of the thrift stores near me (Goodwill is across town, about 20 miles away) use color coded tags. Each week three colors are designated as "discount" - 30%, 50% or 70%! At one store Monday is "senior day" - 10% discount, and at the other "senior day" is Wednesday - 10%. I love the extra savings on these items and days. On Wednesday I usually go to Wal-Mart and the thrift store that has "senior day" on Wednesday is on my way, so when I get an item for 70% off plus the 10% senior discount, I am a happy shopper!

A few days ago I bought a very nice winter coat, a Alfred Dunner sweatshirt (new) and a pretty yellow sweater all for less than $6.00! I buy very few clothes from a "real" store and I have PLENTY of clothes!

I have been going to thrift stores since I was 14. My Aunt was the first to get me into it. I remember the first time I went, we found a pair of gap jeans, that looked brand new for $3. I was so amazed at this, that I kept going.
I love it. When I was in high school though, I would get made fun of. Because someone would ask where I got that "awesome" shirt, and I would say a thrift store. People thought I was "gross" for wearing used clothes. HELLO! I wash them of course. I guess people feeling uncomfortable over thrift stores doesn't stop after high school. Now, there's a store around here called Plato's Closet. It's meant for people my age and you can go and sell clothes and get money for it! Then you can buy new (but slightly used) clothes! I love it, and i've been able to get some good money for clothes I don't wear anymore.

Way back when my daughter was in High School she wanted GUESS Jeans, which were in at the time, they were too expensive and I refused to buy them. I told her lets go to the thrift store and see what we can find, she said I'm not going there, well eventually we did go and to her suprise she found almost new GUESS Jeans for about 2 dollars, in fact she found those and other nice brand name jeans all about new or slightly used. I told her she did not have to tell anyone where she got her clothes, in fact most people would assume she had bought them new. I can just imagine the brand name jeans that are in thrift stores now!!

Asumom, if you have an Aldi store near you check out their milk. It has been $1.99 for about three months. They have only advertised this once that I am aware of so you can't take advantage of the price match option at Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart is very close to Aldi's in my area and I use ad match at Wal-Mart a lot.

Have you considered using powdered milk? My kids won't drink it, but I don't have a problem with it at all. I also use it in all my cooking and baking. My kids don't notice the difference there. :)

If You asked for the Dove shampoo sample it came with a $2.00 off and $1.50 coupons. so you get 2 bottles for $1.50 cents.

If You didn't order the sample there was a $1.50 cents coupons in the inserts a couple of week ago..so You end up paying $2.00 for 2 bottles... ;)

A couple of years ago a local newspaper ran a contest of the biggest savers using coupons. I submited my reciept with say $50 in coupon savings and a week or two later I had a really big savings of $100+ so I submited it in my husbands name doesn't he get 2nd place. My husband does'nt even know what a coupon is. Well the prize for 2nd place was 75$ in gift cards to a local grocery store and he got his picture in the paper, so for a couple of weeks eveyone was calling him the coupon king. I did get the gift cards though. After the contest he always asks me do you have any coupons if I am sending him to the store.
I send my expired coupons to my daughter who is stationed over seas. When she first arrived at her base she did recieve a packet of coupons from family services of expired coupons and she was thrilled. I brought my daughter up on (if it is not on sale and I don't have a coupon we do not get it. So I know she can't bring herself to shop with out coupons.)
I know there are links around for the addresses of bases to send the coupons to. The cost of every thing overseas is overwelming for alot of our servicepeople and their families, so I know every bit helps

Yes, that is a great deal. That deal was exactly what I had written on my shopping list, too. But, then I went into Dollar General, and they had a few bottles of the Dove Go Fresh on clearance for $2.50 and one other Dove conditioner on clearance for $2.25, so I beat Walgreens by just a smidge--$1.25 for both bottles with the coupons, versus the normal $9.98 shelf price. It's mind-boggling that people from all walks of life do frequently pay shelf price for this stuff.

Every quarter or dime here and there helps! It's a game, really--how much can you get for free or for significantly less than original price. Actually, it's fun! :) I'm a perennial clearance aisle and clearance end cap cruiser, and sale ads peruser, coupon organizer ever at the ready.

i just have a little question concerning coupons. If you have a coupon for a free item and its on sale for buy one get on free, does it mean you get two free or what? and also if, for example an item is on clearance for $3 and you have a coupon for $5 off, can you still use the coupon and how much do you get off? One last question, if an item is free after rebate and you have a coupon, do you get the rebate check of what you paid with or without the coupon?

Sorry if i posted it in the wrong spot.
Thanx a lot!!

I know at my local rite aid and food city if you have a B1G1 sale and a free item coupon then you do get the free item. Same thing on clearance if the coupon states $5 and the price is $3 then you make $2. With rite aid you get the full rebate offer even if you use a coupon. I've actually got dishwasher detergant for less that 50 cent!!!! And made a $1 on toothpaste and toothbrushes. But as with any store check with a cashier first. My local CVS has issuse with the B1G1 items with a free coupon.:( SO i tend to hit my rite aid when i have stuff like that. Rite aid will even let you use a coupon in their sales paper with a regular coupon and a rebate!!!! Hope that this helps.
