I wanted to know if anyone uses this or has used this. I have read all the reviews and heard from peope the side effects but I wanted to know if anyone used it and stopped to try to get preggers. I have read it can take up to 2 1/2 years to get pregnant after stopping it. We don't want to wait that long to have a baby, so I am trying to figure out if it is a good idea for me. I don't know how long it takes to get pregnant after the pill I take either (can't remember the name of the pill I take). Just wanted to see if anyone knew first hand.

I take the shot and weight gain is terrible! Ive gained over 30 pounds! it doesn't take that long for you to get pregnent once your off the shot.. My dr said it may take up to 6 months for my body to be regulated again, but I know women that have gotten pregnant a month or so after not taking the shot.

I agree with Denise---I took it for over 6 years and gained a ton of weight. I would say close to 40 pounds.

I would recommend Nuvaring. It is the easiest birth control ever and I love it!

I took the ring. It was great. The guy can feel it during s e x though. It is kinda wierd.

The ring was either $25 or $30 for me. I really liked it. I was hard to get in though.

They want me on the shot because it is the highest mg dosage I can get. I know about the weight gain, my friend took it. I am just going to have to watch that and work out a little more than I do now. My friend said it made her hungry more, but we barely ever have anything bad in our house so when I am hungry I eat fruit or veggies. So I don't think that will be bad. I was just worried about how long it takes to get pregnant after. Now that I know it doesn't really take long I am better with that.

I didn't feel it unless it was in wierd, but he said he could. I really liked the ring though. I can't remember to take the pill for anything. I like the shot, but I have heard everyone gained between 20 and 30 pounds:eek: That scares me.

How long after starting the shot did everyone gain weigh? That way I can watch. My doctor told me I can have Seth give it to me and the nurses were shocked when I told them I was allowed to do it myself. I am sure Seth will love poking me in the bo oty with a big needle.

I had this scenerio to the tee!!! About 10 years ago and when I stopped the shot .. got pregnant in a months time.. and went back after baby .. realized I can't lose the baby weight ( or any for that matter ) and stopped the shot again.. and went to the IUD.. lost 20 lbs almost instantly

I since then just use a IUD.. that has no weight gain and comes out when I am ready and also the BEST is no more "time of the month" for me

I recommend the IUD but it does hurt .. like a bad cramp.. at time of insert and also the removal. Goes away with motrin and a heating pad

I have the Merina IUD and it is awesome! I haven't had a period for almost 5 years now and have not had any issues with it at all..no weight gain, no pain...hubby had me go get the string on it shortened right after I got it because it was poking him but that was kinda funny.:D I have to have it taken out in May since my 5 years will be up, but I will probably just get another one put back in.

Just wanted to mention something regarding this: I worked as a pharmacy tech for over 3 years, and I saw a few women on the shot. They ALWAYS had to go to their doctor's office to get it. I had one woman who had a friend do it, but the friend was a nurse. They would always wait until the last minute to get a refill too-and we didn't always have it in stock.

As for the time of getting pregnant, we saw everything from a few months to a few years after coming off of it-that is going to depend on your own body and it deals with the hormones.

I had to go to the health dept and get mine in my arm every 3 months.. never heard of giving it to yourself. Its as thick as elmers glue and it feels just like that when it goes in and my arm was sore for about 2 days afterward.

My Daughter is getting the shots for birth control and she likes them BUT if she doesn't get in to her Dr before her shot is nolonger effective. She has to go thru another pregancy test before she can get her shot again. Her Dr told her that it only takes 2 weeks after shot wears off for her to become pregnant again

Yeah same here. You have to go to a medical professional to get the shot. You have a time frame you must get it or you will have to take a pregnancy test before they will give you another shot.

I was on the shot for about a year and I gained around 30 pounds. I had the shot in my rear every three months done by my gynecologists nurse. After getting off the shot I got pregnant with my daughter within a month after not receiving the shot.

I agree with Cindy. Getting pregnant and or gaining weight will all depend on your own body chemistry. It could take a month or a year. Everyone is different. Also, I was told to take a vitamin D supplement with the shot as I was told it could cause osteoperosis.

My doctor said I can have my boyfriend give it to me because he is going to EMT school. He said he will know how to do it.

The IUD is based on age and such here. My doctor will not give it to you unless you are 25, have, a child, or are married. Since I am none of those, I can't get that. Plus he wants me on the shot because it is 150mg dosage from the shot and I have to get as much as I can for medical reasons. Otherwise I would take something else (like the ring). The shot is the only thing that really helps me with pain. As far as weight, I have actually lost a few pounds, not gained, but I have not been on it too long. I have changed the way I eat alot in the last few months, so I think I will be ok and not gain a lot.

I am good at getting my birth control filled early. I hate waiting until the last minute to do it. I have to take the next one right around my birthday, so I will get it filled about a week before with the paycheck I get the week before.

With the ring, I didn't have a period. I just left the ring in for 4 weeks and then changed it instead of leaving it in for 3 weeks and leaving it out for a week. As long as you have a ring in, you won't have a period.

So, you would go to the pharmacy for the shots and be able to bring them home and have your boyfriend do them?

I used Depo Provera after my daughter was born. I gained a tremendous amount of weight, and I lost my s e x ual drive. Didn't care about having s e x, didn't care that I was gaining weight. My hubby finally had a heart-to-heart with me and asked me to stop using it.

Currently, I have the ParaGard IUD. I love it! Takes the worry right out of birth control. The ParaGard is good for ten years. I got mine at Planned Parenthood.

Yes my doctor said I can have my boyfriend give it to me. I will just go to the pharmacy and get it. Even if I had the doctor do it I still had to go get it myself.

I know a few people that have taken the shot and didn't gain weight. I am not really worried about gaining weight anyways. As far as the s e xual drive, I lost mine 3 years ago (yes I lost it when I was 18) because of medical reasons. Since about a month ago, I have had an increase in the drive and it has not gone down since I started the shot.

The only thing I was really worried about on the shot was how long it would take to get pregnant once off of it. I have discussed all the other stuff with both my doctor and my boyfriend and the benefits of the shot are much better for me than the side effect. It is the only brith control I can take to help me not be in pain every day. I know I will have to continue to watch what I eat and keep working out like I do, but that is something I need to do even if I am not on the shot.

I asked him about IUD and he won't give them out unless you have had a child, are 25, or married. Plus that didn't have the mg that I needed. I tried everything I possibly could before taking the shot. I have changed my birth control every 6 months for the past 2 1/2 years. This is the first time I have not had very bad pains everyday.

Bottom line: you just gotta do what you feel is best for you. Did you ask your doctor how long it could take? Clearly, it's different for everyone, so I'd try to find out the range. You can always try it out, and if you don't like it stop taking it. :)

So the shot is GREAT for me! I have not gained any weight (I am actually not as hungry and can only eat about half of what I used to eat), my s e x drive has improved A LOT, I don't have mood swings, and I have not had any of the other side effects (head aches and all that stuff). The only bad thing is that I have been breaking out. That could be because we have not had our normal face wash and I have been a little stressed with the holidays and such, but it is not that bad. I am very suprised my appetite has shrunk so much and that I have actually lost a few pounds! I guess everyone's body is much different because I heard everyone gained weight. Maybe I am the odd person out this time! I like this even more than the ring! I HATED trying to get that thing in. I think my doctor knew what was best for me! I have not had my pain as often, but when I do have it it is still bad. I think that is something I am just going to have to live with. My woman parts are just not normal, but atleast they think I can have babies!!

I take prenatal pills everyday. My doctor wants me to take folic acid, but I can't take it unless it is with other minerals and vitamins cause it makes me very sick. I take Calcium pills every once in awhile, but need to take more once I have my surgery. I am glad this worked well with my body. I can't stand changing my birth control all the time.
