Hi everyone. I am hoping someone can help with a problem my daughter is having. She is 16 years old and has acne on her face, arms and back. She has tried just about every over the counter medicine there is but none seemed to help. My sister even ordered Proactive for her to try and actually it made the condition worse! Body washes and lotions don't seem to help either. She does have sensitive skin, so I am thinking the Benzoyl Peroxide products are probably too harsh for her. I am out of ideas to try. If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate them! My daughter and I thank you in advance.

I had acne when I was younger. The dr suggested that I try changing my pillow case every 3 or 4 days. It did help. I used retin-a to finally make it go away. But the side effects are that your skin peels, and it can be expensive. Has she tried anything like witch hazel?

Proactive works really well for Seth, but that new SkinID thing, where you take a quiz about your skin type and they give you the products that match you, it works really well. Here is the link: http://www.skinid.com/econsumer/clearskin/index.view Just make sure they answer the questions honestly and take it maybe twice to make sure they get close to the same numbers. If they don't answer 100% honest then it could not work.

I say peroxide. Years ago I heard this on some talk show. I was a teen with pimples and thought what the hect. OMG it took away the infection and the redness. It worked great.

I swear by a daily facial regimen. My daughter is 7 and has never used soap on her face.We use clear & burst for sensitive skin ( it might be clean & clear) anyway after she gets dry she always applies nuetrogena face lotion ( I use several other items).

Becca has a wonderful complexion but... shes only 7 so we'll see how it goes when shes a little older. As for me I'm 43 and still get at least one pimple every month and when it hits I know I shouldn't but I pop it and then peroxide it and it usually goes right away.

I'm also a believer that you don't have to have oily skin to have acne. I have extremely dry skin and if I don't keep myself well moisterized I break out on my back to.

My daughter is 14 and has/had bad acne on her face and back as well. When she went in to the Dr's for her yearly physical..the Dr wrote her 2 scripts for her face...and her face cleared right up!! She still uses the 2 things day and night and she too has sensitive skin......

Also together these two scripts were only $14.....but thats without insurance...some cover these medicated facial applications.

They are:

Benzoyl Peroxide Creamy Wash 4%- she uses this first..

Erythromycin Topical Solution 2%- she uses last

The Dr said the antibiotic solution would really help her face and it has...I recommend asking for these from your daughters Dr.

Oh gosh, come to think of it, I have some witch hazel around the house somewhere lol... didn't remember I had it until you mentioned it. Why is it sometimes we can't see what is right under our nose :D ? Might as well give that a try and see what happens. Thank you for the suggestion.

Thank you for the link. I will defiantly make sure she answers honestly, no use in lying and not getting the right product recommendation.

Thank you so much for recommending those medicines. Jenny is due for her yearly check up at the drs. so I will see if she will write her out a prescription for those medicines! I bet you Jenny does need an antibiotic.

I hope I can too! Jenny doesn't have very good self-confidence and I am thinking a lot of it is due to how her skin looks. So I am praying if we can get that cleared up her self-esteem will be better too! I am glad these medicines helped your daughter.
