We are about an hour and a half from a big enough city to have one of these, and we only have one super wal mart (luckily it is 10 minutes from me!) within a 45 minute radius.

I dislike wal mart but shop there for the savings (LOL) but I am wondering if anyone has any of the target super stores near them? What are they like? Are their prices good? I wish we had one!

I have one near me and have only been to it twice since it opened a year ago. Seems like if there is a specific sale going on the prices are good but just their regularly priced items seem to cost more than Walmart. Of course, this is just in my area so maybe others have a different opinion.

Phooey. Not that it matters, since we don't have one, but I was hoping their prices were good! Where we live, household items are either cheaper at target (especially since they have sales) of within 1c to wal mart.

I joke that if I won the lottery I would never set foot in wal mart again, but who am I kidding, I am too cheap. LOL I'd want my lottery winnings to last! Hee hee.

That's the way it is here too. Target's grocery prices are generally higher than Walmart's. But, Target definitely has some awesome clearance prices! Unfortunately, finding a really good deal there is usually hit or miss. Personally, I like both of them; they each have their pros and cons.

The closest Target to me is about 35 miles away. They only time I seem to go there is when my girlfriends and I go out to dinner and drinks in that city!! Some how, we always end up closing down the Target!! We do our whirlwind shopping through the clearance aisle just so we don't have to go home yet!! It's amazing what you'll buy there after a glass of wine!!!
Walmart is my choice for almost all of my shopping. It's one of 2 stores that I shop at. Problem though, is that I always end up buying something I DON'T need there!!! lol

speaking of Target..........I printed a bunch of one dollar coupons for oscar meyer products yesterday off target site. Lunchables were on sale so after coupon would only be like 25 cents. I drove all the way into the city and darn it......they did not have them. Poo. I did not realize it was not a supertarget.

That was one of the hardest things for me when I started my budget crackdown. LOL DH was guiltier than me, but if you spend even an extra $10 at every grocery trip, 2x a week...well that really adds up!

My new rule is list items only and if it wasn't important enough to get on the list, it has to wait till next time. LOL

My regular Target has a cold refrigerator section that carries this type of thing, it is not the super Target, but they are building a new super target that is going to open the end of this month, I cant wait to see what it is like, and it is an hour away from me, lol, this is when I bring a cooler with me, so I can shop!

I have to say, I stopped shopping at SuperTarget for several years because they just got ridiculous with their prices. One Christmas after picking my Dad up from the airport, I stopped to pick up a couple of things he wanted to get. We walked around, and finally he looked at me and said "WOW, their prices are really HIGH aren't they?". When my Dad notices that prices are high, that is BAD! My Dad has always been one that if you need it, then get it, no sense in running from store to store. (within reason of course)

Well, just a couple of months ago, I decided to check things out again. I was VERY surprised at how much they had come down on prices. I even found many things lower than Wallyworld. I have to say, their Archer Food Brand, (their generic brand) is really good! I love their frozen pizzas better than the main stream ones like Freshetta, Red Baron etc. Their trail mixes and nuts are really good, really fresh and when on sale, really great price. Their Charmin wasn't on sale and it was cheaper then Wallyworld.

Now every corner with a Super Wallyworld has a SuperTarget on the other side here in the Dallas area, so I don't know if that maybe is a factor in their pricing.

At least at SuperTarget they have more than one cashier when there are 100 people in line. At Wallyworld, that constitutes for 2 checkers maybe 3 if you get really lucky! LOL

I was just in a SUPER Target last week with my daughter in law, It's a brand new store!! this is where I bought my new Digital Camera.....WOW!! the store is huge, of course I had to check out the food section and take home more food items I really didn't need..........but they were so inexpensive I told myself! They had so many frozen food Isles which I did not check out, thankfully!........next time I will take a closer look and bring my food keeper with me!!

I am quoting you because of the Wallyworld name. I say that here and everyone looks at me funny. I hate Wallyworld. I always say I will never go back and then there is that one item only they have on sale and I go. Ours near us iis filthy. We had a stabbing there recently. Someone dinged my car the last time I was there. 1 cashier and an unending line. I will take Target any day.

Same here--we have a super Walmart or whatever you call it, but I hate it. I'd rather go to Target and pay more-but we don't have a Super Target. Sometimes I'd rather just do without than go to the Walmart here. Never enough cashiers, dirty, unorganized--and if you have to go late, you'd think you just landed in the Jerry Springer trailer park.
and yes...we call it Wallyworld here.:)

I wish we had a Walmart closer here. Mine is a 10+ mile city drive away. I have a Super Kmart just around the corner but I refuse to go back in there. After many chances at different Kmart store locations I have found for some reason Kmart's cashiers/help are rude, lazy & don't know how to say "thank you". A huge pet peeve of mine...they don't have to say "Hi' or "please" when asking for my $$ BUT they better say "TY"! I actually had one little snotty cashier yell at me.
Anyway Target seems to be up-grading their stock & personally I & some friends feel they are pricing themselves right out of this area. Alittle snooty for this town.
& you know what? I'm getting old & fat & sore & I can't "DO" the football field size stores I once used to be able to run through. So I shop local grocery stores & if & when i need a house hold item I make a list & then go out to one of those huge stores pack a lunch & make a day of it (or that's what it feels like anyway).
"Super Stores" the young, skinny & fit can have them!

LOL! Thanks for the chuckle.

I'm not a fan of Kmart either. Here, the stores are unorganized, and they are bad about not having advertised merchandise in stock. I got tired of wasting my time.

I love Target, but not all of their prices. I love their clearance deals, and sometimes they have good sale prices. I love to go there and peruse all of their clearance items. I've gotten some really good deals there over the years. One time, I got a Star Wars Lego set on clearance for $15, and turned around and sold it on eBay for over a hundred.

Here, we have really nice Walmart Supercenters, and I love them. I know what some of you are talking about though, in VA where my sister lives, the Walmarts are exactly like the one's in Rebate Queen's area. I wonder why Walmart allows this to happen? You'd think they'd try to get all of their stores up to par. Maybe they are working on it? I feel fortunate that we have such nice Walmarts here. Their prices are so much lower than the other grocery stores, which is something I am extremely grateful about.

We just had a new Super Target open up in a neighboring city. I would rather drive the 15 miles to it than to drive 4 miles to the one by me.

Right across the street from Super Target is WalMart. I must admit, I am a WalMart shopper. It's been hrd to go back to Waly World since this new store opened up. They have such a nice selection of EVERYTHING!! The prices are just as good if not better on many things. Hopefully, this will not be a thing that changes anytime soon.

Our 18 yr old daughter who works full time has severe chronic asthma. She just found out that her medication will only be $4.00 per prescription there! She is ecstatic!! She has been purchasing it through Costco since they had the best price. Instead of her paying $150.00 per month, she will be paying $8.00.

My husband and I were down in the desert today, he had to go to the doctor right around the corner from St. Marys Hospital, I got to stop at the new Target on the way home, didn't get to shop as long as I wanted cause my husband was with me, he hates shopping, but I was able to get a few goodies, the store was pretty empty! I guess when they get all those smaller stores open it will help with business, looks like those stores are just about finished and should be opening soon!
It sure was windy today down there!
I remember driving through Apple Valley/Victorville years ago and the signs on Bear Valley Road advertising new houses for $49,000....those were the days! that, and not too many stop lights on that road....times sure change things.

Every time my daughters and I have been to the new Target it has been pretty empty. It's nice to be able to shop and not have to worry about running into someone on small cluttered aisles.

I absolutely HATE to drive on Bear Valley Rd. The bridge was being built that goes across I-15 when we moved up here. Now, It is so congested no matter what time you are driving on it. I remember those new house signs as well. Now you can't touch a new house in our area for under $300,000.

If they only knew how much of their hard earned money we save them by looking for "shiny objects" they'd faint! LOL!

Recently I had to shop for clothes for my in-laws 50 anniversary party for my hubby. Our daughter said she'd purchase them since we paid for her airfare to fly to San Francisco for the party. We went to a competitor of Target and WalMart. She bought her Dad a pair of really nice dress slacks they were originally $75 got them for $25; his shirt was originally $45 got it for $15; his tie originally $50, got it for $10! I have trained all my kids to look for bargains no matter what store they are in.

hi

i seen one of the Super Targets there bigger than most Super Wal Marts there state of the art stores one side is the store the other is Archer Farms Market

Kmart started the Super Stores and JM Feilds in the 60s far as in the US they faze them out in the 70s than Wal Mart copy it and open in the 80s Target came with them in 1995

Than Wal Mart copy Great Land Targets and now Wal Mart is redoing there store layout like the Super Targets when wal Mart copys Target than Target seems to change there format

Wal Mart has nothing on a Super Target there is nothing like it there always Clean and big we have 20 somehting Targets in Georgia and 10 Super Targets i hope they open a Super Target in Augusta GA

we have 6 Super Wal Marts and i hate Wal Mart i shop at Target and Kroger we have a Big Target that has almost every thing dry food and Dairy

Target is honest and lables where there food is from Wal Mart does not and Wal Marts meats are precut and treated and most comes from Mexico they can lable is USDA but Targets try to get the FDA make all lable where it is realy from

here are links what Wal Mart is doing and why people should not shop at Wal Mart Wal Mart also has people mach prices for them there over priced than they have you come in and mach and you don't even get paid for doing there job

Links taken out....

We have a super target near my house and my work. I prefer Target becuase it seems like they have better things sometimes. But if I am looking at shampoo and certain foods I think they are more expensive. I always have bad experiences at WalMart, but if I have to go there I do.

I got a pump liquid hand soap dispensor that was regularly $19.99 for $4.98.

A cookie jar that was regularly $29.99 for $5.14 (how do they determine these prices?) I am going to give this to my mom for Mother's Day.

Botanics moisturizer for $4.98 (was $9.99).

Sally Hansen Hand Treatment Lotion for .74 cents (was $5.99).

A fishing lure kit for my dad for Father's Day that was normally $9.99 and was marked down to $2.57.

Two cans of Wolfgang Puck Organice Soup for .76 cents a can (they were $2.99 a can).

A two-box package of Kellogg's Special K cereal with chocolate bits for $3.48, and there was a free workout towel inside the box that's going to be perfect for me to use in Spinning class! :D Interestingly, my family loved this cereal so much it's already gone! I bought it for me, and didn't even get to try it, LOL!

Finally, a two-box package of Malt-o-Meal Tootie Fruities cereal for $3.48.

I can't remember what the regular price was on the cereal.

I love it when I go to Target and find good deals. :D

I love those end cap markdowns! I have gotten some awesome items in the past. I heard a rumor from my BIL that he heard from the Mayor of Big Bear Lake, he said Target wants to build a store up here! that would be so welcomed to this town as the K-Mart is a total joke, with the same complaints everyone has about them, poor customer service, dirty stores, cashiers that know nothing, sale items missing! and poor markdown's!

Carol.. I thik I remember reading a little blurp about a "Super Target" going in in Big Bear in 2009 in the Daily Mess oops I mean Press...LOL!! In the article it said Walmart was "projected to build 3 Super Centers" in the Victor Valley and 1 in "mountain communities." So far... we do not have 1 "Super Center" here in the Valley! At least 1 of the store was supposed to open last month! LOL!!

Our little and I mean little hometown paper, the Grizzly never tells us anything! It only comes out on Wednesday, and can be read in a matter of 5 minutes reading ultra slow!
I know the Walmart plans have been tossed from what I heard, if they build any Target or Walmart it will have to be in Big Bear City, not Big Bear Lake, because Big Bear Lake does not allow buildings larger than 22,000 sq.ft. our Vons grocery store is the largest store we have up here, lol, but I relish the thought of a Target in my city!! that is like giving candy to a kid...I sure hope it happens!!
