Hello everyone. I am asking for prayers as I am currently seeking employment. I am a single mom of two kids..ages 12 and 16. I live in the Pittsburgh, PA area. My college degree is in Medical Laboratory Technology. Unfortunantly there aren't many jobs around here in that field. I don't HAVE to work as a Med.Tech. but that is what my degree is in so I prefer something along that line. I did submit an application at a nearby Rite-Aid store to work as a Pharmacy Tech( since I have medical experience), but never received a call for an interview. Right now...I just want and need a job! Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers.
God bless

I am praying that you will find a job. Have you tried your temp agencys. I know a lot of people who have had success with this and have even been hired full time after a certain period of time.

May God provide something wonderful for you! Have you ever tried the pharmaceutical sales industry? You certainly have the right background for it!

No, I have never even thought about that industry. To be honest, I don't really know what all that would involve. Are those the people who go around to doctors offices and give out samples, wanting drs. to recommend and prescribe those medications to their patients?
I just posted my resume online. Pray that God sends something my way.
I am very nervous. To make a long story short, I haven't been employed for quite some time now, I hope I would be ok if I do get a job. I hope someone will give me a chance.

Hi!
Do you know about Indeed.com? It's a service that encompasses all sorts of job boards like carreerbulder.com, monster.com. jobsin?.com, local newspapers, etc. You just go to the site, type in your keywords, your zip code, and how many miles you're willing to commute. It updates the lists all day long. In the past I've checked morning and evening to see what's new. I have set my preferences for email so that they send me a new list everyday. I keep this going even when I'm working in case something better comes up. Then I just go to the site, arrange it by most recent listing first, and apply right on line most times. It's a good way to cover a lot of bases at once. Good luck!:D

Just to update everyone on my job hunting. I put in a call to a friend of mine who I have known for years. I used to work with her in a hospital lab that is about 5 mins away from my house. Well, since I have left, she has become the lab manager there. I left a message for her asking her if she has any openings for me to work there again. PRAY she calls me back and it is good news. Right now I am looking for daylight hours, Mon. Weds and Fri. Thank you all for praying for me
God bless

Hi, Dawn!
Yes, pharmaceutical reps are the ones who take samples and the chemical product info to doctors, clinics and so on. It sounds like you at least have the background info for it. I've had a number of friends who've done it and they all had good people skills plus the chemistry background to understand how the meds work.
Whatever you end up with , may God bless you and provide something wonderful that you love!

Now I know I'm going nuts...the 3 yr old I'm babysitting is driving my nuts with a horn on one of his trucks and is shining a flashlight in my eyes because he's playing with the shadows...but I seriously thought the title of this thread said "Prayer for Single Men..." and I said ok I'm in on this one LOL
But anyway I am praying that you hear good news soon.

Hi there everyone. Well, I heard from my friend on Fri. 31st., she told me she is going to talk with the Human Resources department in the hospital and see if they will allow her to hire me on a part time basis. She more or less said there is nothing right now full time. I told her I was looking for 2-3 days a week, and that I would prefer daylight hours. She said Sat. daylight was always hard to find people to work, so that would be good if I was willing to work that day and shift. I should be hearing from her sometime this week coming up. Please keep me in your prayers that I get the job if this is where God wants me to be. Thanks!

I too am a single mom looking for a job. I've been off work since June !!! When you submit an application you should always send a copy of your resume with it, so they know how valuable you are. Also after a day or two (3 at the most) you need to call the place (Rite Aid, ect.) to follow up. Then the company knows that you are really interested and efficient. You should look at craigslist.com and search for jobs in your area. I submit my resume to 2 or 3 jobs a day and have had many replies in the past few weeks. Good Luck ! :)

Thank you very much for your reply and encouragement. In regards with the Rite Aid job...I put in two applications and still never heard back. I will look into the craigslist.com site. The problem I have is right now I am living with my mom and we only have one car( the one I used to drive was totaled in an accident I was in), so wherever I end up working can't be too far from home. And, as I stated, there just aren't any jobs in my field where I live. I might just have to look into jobs that aren't laboratory ones. I am just very down about this. I keep busy doing housework, running errands, cooking..etc..but it is depressing not having any money coming in( I only get child support once a month for both my kids). Anyways, thank you again for your reply and good luck with your job hunting too.
God bless!

As someone who used to work for Rite Aid as a tech in Baltimore, the best piece of advice I can give you is to be VERY persistant. Does the store you are applying at have a help wanted sign on the front door? The stores that truly need the help will put a blue sign on the front door of the store.
In addition, try to find out who the pharmacy manager is-they are the ones that have the true hiring power. This information might be posted on the front door as well. If not, you can always call and ask whoever answers the pharmacy line-best to find out when he/she works.
If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to ask/PM me. I worked for RA for over 3 years and left them as a Senior (RA) Certified Technician.
PS-I'm also originally from the Pittsburgh area..howdy old neighbor!!

Hi there Cindy,
Always good to talk to a fellow Pittsburgher!!!( well former Pittsburgher lol) I don't live right in the city, but about 30 mins north.
I applied for this job at Rite Aid back in August of 2007. At that time they did have a sign in the window saying they had openings for pharmacy techs. Now I did NOT go to school for that, but I figured I should apply because I did have a medical background. This store is only about 5 mins away from my house so I thought it would be perfect, because it was so close. So probably they don't even need anyone by now. I did fill out and hand in two applications back then. Thank you for your reply! I am just very discouraged at this point.

Good evening Dawn!
I'm sorry to hear you are discouraged:( My next piece of advice is to try again, if it's something you are still interested in. I worked at three individual stores, and we went through so many people during my 3 years there. The turnover rate is unreal! As for not having the education, that is one good thing about this job-you don't need it!!! It's on the job training, and within the state of PA, you don't need to be certified. There is a certification program that you can do through RA though. My mom works part-time as a tech in PA.
As a total sidenote, I grew up in Indiana county-born and raised. I will go back to the Pittsburgh area in a heartbeat, as much as I love living here;p
Ooo, just had another thought-do you have a Target near you? They are good to work for. I got hired with them in March, and they let me push my training date back 3 weeks when my husband needed surgery. Unfortunately, I needed to leave due to medical reasons, but I would recommend Target to anyone!

Someone suggested temp agencies but most regular temp agencies to not do medical temp work because of liability. But try a medical temp agency. Sometimes the work is not steady but they usually pay more per hour.

Just thought I would update everyone on my looking for a job status. I haven't heard from my friend and I think I know why...the hospital is in financial trouble and may be forced to shut down. I saw a story about it on the news last night. So the job at the hospital is OUT. I wish my friend would have called to let me know what was going on, but oh well.
Now what do I do? :(

This may not be what your looking for but why not try substituting in a local school that is what I did and after one year they hired me has a full time aide.
Our school pays 50.00 for a full day and 25.00 for a half day. Your school district may pay better as I'm in rural texas.
I would even tell them your background as they may need substitute nurse aide also.
Good luck and god bless you!!!!:)

Our schools here pay about the same, but if you have 2 years of college you get like $65 a day, 4 years $70 a day, and the more you work for them the more you get. It definately is a good idea. You have to take a really easy test (the teacher that told us to do it said the test had about 12 spelling errors, so that tells you its pretty easy) and you will have to do a drug test, background check, and some might make you get fingerprinted. They are always needing them. I know lots of girls that do it and normally they have a job when they need it. Good suggestion, I never thought to suggest that.

I know you said that you have medical background but if you cant find a job in that, I would think any job that would pay bills would do intill you can find that perfect job. I have 4 college degrees in Business and more but if I cant find a job I would take anything that paid the bills. Keep looking and you are in our prayers.
