Today I received a call from the hosptial telling me that my son had tested positive for one of the diseases in the newborn screening test, but that they wanted to do more tests to make sure and other stuff.. I don't really understand what they told me because I got a sad, but tomorrow I have to go to a childrens hospital about an hour and a half from where I live so that they can take some blood and urine samples. I ask for your prayers that my son is alright..

Oh dear, hopefully the tests were wrong, which happens many times. Prayers for baby Jason, you and your DH for everything to be just fine.
Hopefully this is all a mistake. Hugs.

Prayers are on the way for Baby Jason and both of his wonderful parents...try to be as calm as you possibly can- this happened to my Godaughter- Mallie, she was not able to drink breast milk (allergic to milk- if she continued to drink it she would have been brain damaged due to the proteins in it.) Her mother, Mary Ellen, was horrified since she was breast feeding her but no brain damage occured- it would have if she continued. So she switched to a special formula and she is a beautiful 7 year old now! This is why they do the testing. Sometimes the can be wrong with the dx. but if they are right they can save many lives by doing something as simple as switching to a special formula.
Continous postive thoughts are on the way!

Thank you everyone!
I have been trying to be positive....
The results for the blood and urine tests will be ready in 2 weeks so until then my baby has to take some medicine to help him out. The doctors said that my baby might have Glutaric Acidemia type-1.... but that also like some of you said that the results could come out negative.
Thank you all for your prayers once again!!!! :)

Hi Carol,
The baby has grown so much already... He is lifting his head already, has gained over a pound and has grown about 2 inches.
I hate giving my baby a medicine they prescribed the baby for the disease they think he has.. It makes him have tummy aches and vomit at times.. I hate to see him like that... :( ... but other than that he is just a bundle of joy! :D

I got a call from the hospital finally!!! There are good news and bad news! The good one is that in the urine sample everything was normal! So HE DOESN'T HAVE GLUTERIC ACEDEMIA TYPE 1!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The bad news is that the blood tests still came out like they did in the newborn screening. There is something elevated and they want to do some more tests to see what my son has. If he does have something it won't be as severe as the GA-1 which the doctors had feared he had....
I have to take my son to the doctor monday to have some lab work done.
So the waiting continues to find out what my son has.........
I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE FOR YOUR PRAYERS!!!! :)

Thank you everyone for your prayers!
I am worried once again about the Glutaric Acidemia type 1. When I called last week to see if they had the tests results it was a nurse who told them to me because the doctor was on vacations. She said that the urine samples were normal so that the baby didn't have GA1.
On monday when I talked to the doctor he said that the urine samples came back normal but in the blood tests the levels of gluteric something (long words I don't remember) were more than twice the normal range. Because of that he said that he wants to do another test on the baby because he wants to completely rule out GA1. He would rather be safe than sorry just like us. The only thing to do to be sure now is a dna analysis. This is very expensive so we have to get pre approved by the insurance first before we can do this test. If the insurance says yes then we will get a blood sample from the baby and send it to Colorado for the dna analysis ASAP. There are only a few places that do this type of dna analysis and a university in Colorado is one of them. If the insurance says no then I don't know how we are going to be able to pay to have this done. :( .. I really want to have this done to my baby asap to find out and have peace of mind...... :(

I'll be praying for everything to turn out fine. One prayer has been answered already with the insurance company paying for the tests!
I know it's gonna be hard waiting for the results, but at least either way now the end is in sight and if the tests come back positive for anything, your son will be able to receive any care he needs soon. Try to sit back and just enjoy him right now! Don't let any worries and stress cloud your holidays...especially since they are the first ones with your son!

to get the results for this kind of test it usually takes around 6 or 7weeks  I am thinking since there has been many holidays since the babies blood was taken and sent for testing it is taking sooooooo long... I just want the tests to come back negative!!! :)
Scott Baio, best known as Chachi from "Happy Days," also had a scare with this possibly deadly metabolic disorder (Gluteric Acidemia Type 1). The result was found during his little girl Bailey's newborn screening test and fortunately, it was a false positive test result. They did a dna test on a piece of skin from the babies arm and that is how they found out it was a false positive!
I HOPE I HAVE THE SAME OUTCOME!!!
the babies new appointment is on January 22nd..:)

I just finished talking to Jasons doctor and he said they have the results back! He said that the dna test shows there is nothing abnormal in his genes....:D that makes me soooooooooooo super mega extra HAPPY!!!! :D lol...
I am so thankful for that! and of course everyones prayers! He said "if you want my opinion I would say that Jason does not and I repeat does not have Gluteric Acidemia Type 1."
but to be on the extra safe side he said that he wants to run another urine test on Jason (since the dna test is not 100% accurate). He said that when Jason gets sick such as gets a high fever to take my son to his pediatrician or to the childrens hospital so that they can get a urine sample. The doctor wants to see if everything stays "normal" when Jason is sick and that nothing comes up elevated during sick time. If everything is normal then there will be absolutely no more tests to be done and he will put on my sons medical record that Jason does not have GA-1!!!
I am confident that everything is great with my son and that he does not have this horrible disease!!!I AM SO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!! You have no idea how happy I am right now!!! I am going to cry if happiness!!! THANK YOU EVERYONE for listening to me and praying for my son and my family! I am forever thankful!

Well I took Jason to his 6 month check up! I can't believe it has been 6 months since he was born!! time sure does fly! He is so big.
Anyways, Jason's doctor is going to refer us to a Urologist. This is because one of his test!cles still has not descended :(... So they might have to do some surgery to help that out. Jason also has a check up with his Geneticist in June. They want to make sure he is doing well (since they still haven't cleared him on the Gluteric Acidemia Type 1 disease completely). I just want time to fly by and for my son to be fine! I hate all of this but in a way am glad because it makes me appreciate my son so much more!

Lidia, so good to hear that you are all doing well! Funny that yu said Jason doesn't crawl. It reminded me of my nephew Jason, he didn't crawl either. He started walking by himself at 7 months as long as he was holding a bathrobe tie...LOL! If you took the tie out of his hands he'd fall to the ground, it was s funny!!
I'll say a special prayer that all goes well at the Geneticist visit.
Congrats on the house!!! That is indeed exciting!!!
Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!

Hi Mae! no we haven't moved into our home yet. A couple more weeks . I have to start packing :( I don't like that part lol.
Today I received a call from his geneticist and we had to reschedule his appointment because he was not going to be working that day. Jasons next appointment is on July 9th. Now I have to get a hold of the Urologist . Last time we called they said they had not gotten the referall for Jason. Hopefully there was not a mixup again .

Today we went to take Jason to the see the geneticist. He was explaining everything in more detail. Even though the dna test came back normal he said that it is about 95-97% accurate. So there is still a chance that Jason might have GA-1. This seems to be never ending!:(... He was also explaining how it is easier to prove you have the disease than to prove you do not have this disease. Since this disease is so dangerous every doctor will want to do many tests until there is almost no chance of Jason having the disease. The only thing left is to do a skin biopsy :( . They are supposed to call me tomorrow to tell me when this will be done. I hate that this has to be done but we just want all of this to be over with.
Tomorrow we are also taking Jason to the urologist to do some ultrasounds. I hope they have good news!
Thank you all for your prayers! They mean so much! :o

Well today we went to see the urologist and she says that they will need to do an operation on Jason. They will give him general anesthesia then with a little camera look to see how things are. Then they will do the operation. I won't be able to be in the OR with my son. I was also told that Jason is now at a higher risk of developing testicular cancer when he grows up :(..... This all just makes me so sad and frustrated! But I know God does things for a reason, and I am very thankful with him for giving me my son.
Hopefully this weekend we will take a trip to the mountains to take our minds off all of this.

Well, at least fake it real good. Just trying to make you smile. It's hard to be strong sometimes, but that's God's department, and he will see you, Jason, and family, through this. Lidia, I can sympathize with you not on a Mother's point of view but as a Grandmothers regarding general anesthesia. It is very scary for you as a Mom. But, please know, God will be watching over Jason, as well as the Dr's and nurses who are caring for him during his surgery. That's what has got me through, as well as Richard, Kim, and the rest of our family while Cashton had surgeries.
The little ones are pretty quick in recovering after surgery. They will do do anything that is going to hurt themselves. If it hurts, they'll stop.
Praying Jason will beat the odds and NOT develop testicular cancer as an adult.
Hugs!!

First, I have to say- after being away from here for so long- sorry! ( my surgery, vacation, etc.) I had to read to catch up) OMG! How he has grown ...and how CUTE is he...OOOOOO, I just want to squeeze his little cheeks! The girls are oohing and awwing over him too!
Did they say what the operation the urologist is going to do? I am just wondering? They will let you be in the recovery room with him- and know the the OR nurses will take care of him like he is THEIR son! Every operation we go into with a little one on the table that is how we feel- you need to know that. ( i just renewed my license online today)

I can't believe surgery day is almost here... His surgery is on monday and we have to be at the hospital by 6 a.m. He will be the first one to have a surgery that day. Surgery will take around 1 1/2 hours. I bet they will be the longest hours of my life. We will be at the hospital until the afternoon when he will be able to go home. I pray everything goes well.
I'll be praying for Jason Monday morning. My son had surgery when he was 9 months old and again about a year later. I remember how awful it was sitting in the waiting room and how hard I prayed for him and the surgical staff. I almost knocked the nurse down when they finally let me back into the recovery room because I was desperate to get to him. I know God and His Angels will watch over your child when you can't. Let us know how it goes.

We got home about 3 1/2 hours ago. His surgery went great, and it took 2 hours and 10 mins to complete. Jason right now is still sleepy from the anesthesia and the lack of sleep last night. He has 4 incisions but they look fine and hopefully they will remain that way. I would hate for him to get an infection or anything bad. I just wanted to thank everyone for your continued prayers for my son.

Thank you all for your prayers!
Jason yesterday turned 1 year old! I can't believe how fast time has passed. He was active yesterday almost as much as he was before surgery. He was up and walking around the furniture, crawling, and playing with his toys. He really hasn't complained, cried, been nauseated or anything like that. At night after an active day he does cry a little but after I give him his medicine and sing him to sleep he is ok. His incisions are looking ok. One of them is starting to look bruised up but the doctor had warned us about it. I am not worried about it but I still don't like my son to look bruised up. Other than that he is back to normal. Thank you all once again for your prayers. HUGS!

Lidia... So happy to hear Jason's surgery went well. Babies are amazing when it comes to healing. They won't do anything if it hurts to do it. Happy Belated 1st Birthday Jason!! YES, time sure does go by fast, so hold on to the days while he is small! God Bless!

One of Jason's incisions is a little bit infected but not so much to prescribe antibiotics . He has been a little more quiet than usual though not so talkative. I miss that about him. I will try to post up a picture soon when I have some time.

Jason is doing better each day and I just hope that it stays that way. In a month he will be checked again to see if everything is great now or if they will have to redo the surgery.
I am going to try and see if the hospital has gotten back the results for the biopsy. Hopefully they have or will have them in then few days. I want to know the results so bad it is driving me crazy sometimes.

Just got off the phone with the hospital. They still have not gotten back his biopsy results. One of the doctors is going to call the lab and see what is up with that since they should have already received them. As soon as they know if the tests are done they will call me to tell me the results. I am so nervous. I want the doctor to call me today and tell me everything is fine and that I will never have to see them again.

I am saying a prayer right now for you all. I hope the doctor calls you back today also....I wonder if they honestly know what stress they put on you. God Bless. Please keep us posted. HUGS
Prayers that you will get the results soon and that they will be exactly what you want them to be. I really don't think that they realize what stress and anxiety they cause when the results don't come back quickly.

A week ago Jason had some other blood tests done that his doctor ordered. Well now they tell me that he wants to talk to us about the results in his office. I am thinking is some bad news? If everything was fine wouldn't they just leave us alone or say something through the phone? I try not to worry but I just can't help it. I will know what the results are on Tuesday.
Thank you everyone for your prayers. HUGS!!!!

Today we went to see Jason's pediatrician for the blood test results. The doctor says that Jason is very anemic now. He will have to take iron for 2 months, and then he will have some more blood tests done. I feel like I am a bad mother now which I know I am not. I just wish we would know the results for the biopsy. I know the geneticist is doing all he can but I just want to know so badly if my son has GA-1 or not. That way I can feed Jason more protein and food rich in iron so that he wouldn't have gotten to this point as well. I try my best to be strong around my family and relatives but I know I am just torn inside. The only thing keeping me up and still happy is Jason. Even though he is anemic he still has so much energy to turn the house upside down :). Thank you for letting me vent a little here, and for your continued prayers!

Lidia, I was an anemic too when I was young and had to take liquid iron every day from the age of 4 until I was a teen. I can still remember the nasty taste of that thick red-orange syrup!! :p My parents said I was a tornado on toes with all the energy I had...LOL!!
Hun, YOU ARE NOT A BAD MOTHER!!!!!! I know you might feel like one, but, you ARE doing what is THE BEST for Jason!!
I hope you hear back soon with the test results. Still praying for your family hun!

I want to say thank you to everyone! On friday the genetecist finally called us and said that they have the test results. It is absolutely negative. Jason doesn't have GA-1. He said sorry for having made us go through all of this but that it was necessary. Jason doesn't have to go back to see him again. I am so relieved. Now Jason doesn't have to be taking the nasty medicine, and can eat whatever he wants. Thank you all for your prayers once more. :)
