I just finished reading that. I like to read Stephen King, Dean Koontz, James Patterson and Nora Roberts but since I read a book every two days and hate to reread them I have to find a new author to read. Any suggestions?

We like the same authors, although I have not read Nora Roberts. I will have to check her out!

Some more authors I like: Sue Grafton, Tami Hoag, John Grisham, Patricia Cornwell, and Sandra Brown. I also like to read the classics. Recently, I've been reading books by Gregory Maguire. Namely, Wicked (Saw the Broadway play at The Kennedy Center in December 2005), Son of a Witch, and I've started Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister. I put it down to read The Good Guy by Dean Koontz, and now Blaze.

Have you ever read The Time Traveler's Wife? It is an awesome, awesome book by Audrey Niffenegger. It's one of my all-time favorites:

Me too! I've read the entire Harry Potter series out loud to my kids almost four times! We are currently on Order of the Phoenix right now, hoping to get it read before the movie comes out. We probably won't get Half-Blood Prince finished before the new book comes out, but we'll just have to live with it! :D

I am currently rereading the Mitford Series by Jan Karon. They are fascinating. I am a big fan of James Patterson and have read the complete series that has recently been released at Wal-Mart. My sister bought all of them again so that we would be sure to have them.

I also really enjoy Debbie Macomber. Most of her books are considered Romance and they do have some romance in them but they have Mystery also. She has a series called "Cedar Grove Series" I have all of them that have been released. They are really good

I love to read biography/autobiography. Wether the books be about a certain time period or about someones life. I also like to read about different cultures and some romance but usually it has to be historical romance otherwise I am not a big fan of the romance. Anyways the book I am currently reading is Empress Maria Theresa by Robert Pick. Maria Theresa was the mother of Marie Antionette (who I guess was the youngest child out of 16 children!!). I am only on the first chapter. It is not bad so far, but might be a little confusing as in the beginning it talks about all of the rulers in europe before Maria Theresa's birth.

James Patterson writes the books faster than I can read them. Did not know about "You've Been Warned". I buy my books through ebay...wait a few months and get a good price. I bought my daughter the Maximum Ride series. She read them and said she like them. (She is 18 years old now) I probably would like the books too if I read them. I'm taking 5 English classes, so what am I NOT reading (I'm an English Major).

Just finished Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and an anthology of poetry.

This week I am reading William Shakespeare's Sonnets and A Midsummer Night's Dream, Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre, and a handful of short stories and poems.

Next week I read William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, Kate Chopin's The Awakening, Machiavelli's The Prince and more short stories and poems.

Oh for those of you who read but just don't have the time to devote to a book check out this site:
http://librivox.org/
LibriVox provides free audiobooks from the public domain.
I've downloaded several onto my ipod for free. This has been a lifesaver when I haven't had time to read everything because I can listen to a chapter or two in the car while I am driving.

I read MANY books! I read when I should be doing other things, ie-laundry, ironing, housework, etc. Since retiring several years ago I have read about 600 books. I keep a list of the ones I have read (by author) another list of books to be read (by author). I take both the list with me when I go to the library but I still check out a book more than once. The librarians are wonderful about making recommendations. I just read "The Notebook" by Nicholas Sparks for the second time and enjoyed it all over again. I enjoy Mary Higgins Clark, James Patterson, Iris Johansen, Barbara Taylor Bradford, and many others. Hope everyone has some time to devote to reading.

I love anything by Anita Shreve. My sister turned me on to her this year and I think I have checked out one or two of her books every time I've been to the library and have not been disappointed yet.

Any and all info would be greatly appreciated. I LOVE to read, am home-bound/disabled and read a novel or a paperback book per day. Its expensive and I usually go to the library to get their discarded books at $.50 for a hard cover and $.25 for a paperback.

I really liked it. Good back story on Rhett and how he got where he did. Funny to read the Gone With the Wind part because you know what's going to happen, but you don't because this is no Rhett's perspective. Great ending - different from Scarlett, I liked this one better, more believable.

It's about a teenage girl who has fallen in love with a vampire. It's very passionate and well-written. I feel the main character's passion and her pain. Right now, she's in deep emotional pain, and it is almost agony to endure it with her. Good stuff!

I'm with you. I read everything he writes! The TV show was not impressive, but I did enjoy the tv movie based on the first Women's Murder Club book with the newlyweds getting killed. Michael J. Fox's wife played the Lindsay.

It was a few years ago. Check out Lifetime if you have it, every now and again they'll play it. I believe the name of the book was kept as the name of the movie - 1st to Die.

I haven't read John Les Crouix, I'll have to look for him. I just finished Cross and have a stack to read so I'll just add one of his to the pile.

I read all of John Sanford and Dean Koontz also.

Between Sandford and Davenport and Paterson and Cross, there's like a million serial killers roaming around. LOL.

Koontz freaks me out and I always swear I'll never read another but I always do. Never heard of the Douglas Preston/Lincoln Child books, I'll have to look for those too.

I've read a few by Robin Cook, but he freaks me out too. Everytime I read one of his books, the main idea happens in real life - e coli, anthrax, MRSA.

Koontz's Intensity was a pretty good read. Did anyone see the tv version? Did it have the guy from Scrubs (Ted McGinley) as the bad guy like it shows on the cover of hubby's paperback version?

Yes, I saw it! I'm a Koontz fan from way back. I even remember when Watchers first came out.

Lynne, I will have to look for the Douglas Preston books! Too many books, not enough time though! I've got the the third Twilight book to read, after that I will read Rhett Butler's People, a book that Storzo was kind enough to send to me (Thanks again, Michelle!). A book on Mount Vernon's gardens--very nice book, and sad to say, it's been on the shelf for over two years, and I'm the first one to check it out--it's interesting as it gives you more insight to George Washington and his beloved Mount Vernon, introduces you to the farming methods, some of the failures, some of the successes (sixteen sided threshing barn, fishery, mill and his own brand of flour sold in the area, so forth)

I've been to Mount Vernon. In fact, my sister lives just down the street from there. It's an awesome, awesome place. It's so amazing how they used to live. George Washington was a brilliant man, but lived in such primitive conditions. Makes you wonder how he'd do today!

Okay, sorry for all the questions! Is that the 2nd Odd Thomas? I want to do an interlibrary loan on it! The Christopher Snow books are pretty good. The first was Fear Nothing, the second Seize the Night. The frankenstein is just called "Dean Koontz' Frankenstein" and was excellent! Never heard anything about the follow up, even though the first was pretty plain about there being another in the works. It was supposed to be picked up for a mini-series or movie, but they went in directions Koontz didn't want to go and it got axed.

No need to be sorry. I thought I was a Koontz fan, but I realize there's a lot of his stuff I have yet to read. The Christopher Snows might be my next choice - I like recurring characters in books.

Just finished a really witty, amusing, and somewhat silly book called A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore. It starts with a guy, Charlie, at the hospital with his wife and new born daughter Sophie. Charlie goes to leave and finds his wife's CD in the car and goes to run it up to her. When he gets in the room, there is a very tall black man in a mint green suit by the bed, the wife is dead. Charlie can see the guy and isn't supposed to be able to. Then Charlie starts seeing various glowing red objects, and eventually realized that he is "Death" - sort of. There is a lesbian sister, Jane, a goth sort of employee, an ex-cop employee (at one point, he thinks Charlie is a serial killer and Charlie suspects the same of him!), Minty Fresh (the guy in the mint green suit's mom named him after toothpaste, sewer harpies, dead/alive critter things in Victorian costumes, Officer Rivera following Charlie around, etc. It has some content that is a bit inappropriate, but it's all pretty hilarious! Very good read! Two bookmarks up!

Now I'm reading People of the Weeping Eye.....the latest in the first native north american series...excellent so far. Yep!! That is the book I'm reading!! Those Dresden Files books really grab you into the story quickly! I saw one of the episodes on tv not too long ago, so decided to check out the books - glad I did. They are fun.

Songs for the Missing is another one you will either love or hate. Stewart O'Nan does not fully resolve the story of the missing girl, so lets you draw your own conclusions at the end. (I don't think I'm giving anything away in saying that, I believe it is printed on the back of the book). I really like the book, even though it is not my normal style.

I'm currently reading The Betrayal. It's very controversial because it is as true an account of the actual life of Jesus as there can be. It is written by two of my favorite authors, Kathleen and W. Michael Gear. They are historians and anthropologists that study our native american cultures in minute detail. Their books are amazing. So far I have not been dissappointed with this one. This is all based in facts and academics so there is no Davinci Code like circus with this type of book. This is a book based completely of the reality of what could be proven. I find it fascinating. For some it may shake their faith, but for me it only strengthens it. I hesitate to list it in this forum because I don't want to offend anyone, but I think it's a book worth checking out, so I'm putting it in. If anyone is interested, you can go to www.gear-gear.com and read about this book as well as all their others. :D

I've made a list of authors & books you all recommend, so I'll know what to look for if & when we get a library again... due to budget cuts our county library closed more than a year ago. What I read is anything that's not harlequin romance type, or anything not TOO scary. I can't afford to buy books, so once a month I go to the goodwill store, where paperbacks are 10 cents, & get as many as I can find. Sometimes I can't find more than 10 I haven't read... last week I got 30, including Nora Roberts, Belva Plain, Tom Clancy, Mary Higgens Clark, Tony Hillerman... all old ones, but the price is right & I LOVE to read.
