How do I get a different avatar?

Help!!!
I wanted to use a different avatar than the one that start sampling offers, but everytime I attempt to choose one from my own computer...it either says invalid file or too big.
I want a nice picture....lanscape, sunset, sunrise, nature or something like that.

Someone help a sista out....please:)

Find a gif to use, they are usually the right size, we also have a thread that has lots of gifs you can look at and take to use also. It is in the general thread also, you can use the search to find it, search is located in the black bar near the top of the page. (I'll try to find it for you)

You know how to get to the page for the avatars? click on Quick Links in the black bar, then click on User Control Panel, then on the left side of the page, Edit Avatar.
