My son hurt his foot about 3 wks ago and then rehurt it the 4 of July and we had him to the emergency room because his toes were turning colors from swelling, well we found out he broke it, and will wear a cast for about 8 wks, if it doesn't heal he will require surgery to put a pin in it, and his medical is about to run out as well.My son has a very high tolerence to pain and just figured he had sprang it or something. Please pray all works out, we see a dr on monday the 7th. and then an ortho spe******t if its needed. My son is also suppose to report to college on the 16th of Aug, his school is like 7 hrs from here, so I am not handling this as well as I should. Thank You in advance for your prayers

I have been in your shoes with my son as well, he was 2 years old at the time and it was his leg, from experience PLEASE PLEASE make sure your son is being treated by a good doctor and insist on xrays throughout the healing process, yes it can be done through the cast.My sons leg is NOT corrected from the break, its going to need surgery as well.
My thoughts and prayers are with both of you! Be strong and please make sure he follows doctors orders;)

I am so sorry to hear your son hurt his foot. Sometimes it is so hard to see those fractures....my DH broke his leg (tibia plateau)....it took an MRI to see it. An x-ray did not show this fracture. He did eventually have surgery to correct it. Thank goodness for that MRI! The Dr. at first treated it like a sprain. DH was walking on it!

It is hard when the insurance runs out....have you thought of a short term policy....I think it is considered catastrophic, we did this when DH company closed. We used State Farm, but I am sure any company could help. It was a fair rate....around 200 dollars a month for the 3 of us. Thank goodness he now has it through the company he works for. I will be praying for you and your son!

Terri, prayers for you and your son for a complete healing!
I hope he can see a spe******t, my DH broke his foot 4 years ago, was misdiagnosed as a sprang, when it was finally discovered he had broken his foot in 3 places it was already 6 weeks down the line, then he was in a cast for weeks and weeks. His foot hurts everyday, he sure wishes he had seen a spe******t now.

asumom I wish your son the best of luck with his foot, and my prayers go out to him for a quick recovery, and also to you in dealing with his departure from home. I can only imagine what you must be going through knowing he will be so far from home. I don't know how I would handle it, personally- it scares the crap outta me just thinking of it. My kids are both still at home~ one is 20....on his way home from a week long road trip back to NJ ((he's now only 20 mins from returning home, and I am starting to breath easier!!)) and I was upset the whole tiime he was away. He doesn't talk about college so much as moving back to NJ, But my younger son talks about going to college (he's 17). I just know I will want to move wherever my kids go......

I want to first thank everyone for there thought and prayers, They are well appreciated. We went to the dr's yesterday and he said yep, it's really broke, he decided to go ahead and cast it and he feels it will mend on its own, but we are trying to get in and see the ortho dr, before his insurance expires, just as a precaution, we were told they don't normally pin this kind of break, but stranger things have happened. He was lifted up and prayed for at church as well, my son is strong in his faith and has not let this get in his way.he keeps telling me it will be ok, and as far as college goes i am not doing to good, my son and I are fairly close and its ripping me apart inside, I do have some ladies from church who are going to help me get through this, I am sure, i will be alright.

Terri.. I just ran across your post. I'll keep your son in my prayers. DH broke his big toe on his right foot 14 years ago. A cast iron sink fell on it while he was at work.

Keep us posted on how he's doing.

Hugs,
Mae

UPDATE----We went to the orthopedic doctor yesterday, he said what he has is called a Jones Fracture and they were indeed going to go in and put a screw in it, just because they have a tendency not to heal like they should and then surgery is neded anyway. My son is a big boy and the dr felt it was needed, to help support.I know in my heart god is with him and all will be fine, but it is still hard to deal with. They did put him in an air cast walker which makes life easier for him to get around by himself, bathe and all those other things, it will also get him back to driving if he needs to. Thanks Again For The Prayers.

Oh I am so glad you went to an Ortho doctor! My DH sure wishes he had done that now, like I said before his foot hurts every day. Your son will thank you down the line as he may not be real happy right now, but you sure did the right thing!

ASUMom...I am so glad you decided to go to the ortho Dr. That screw will help it to heal so much better. Keeping it stabilized. Good Luck to him! Things will only improve from here. Keeping you both in my prayers! ~Kim

Bone pain is awful, not to mention that when your feet hurt everything seems to hurt in sympathy. And then there's pain from whatever incisions he may have had. Thinking back 24 years to when I broke my ankle I seem to remember being told that I should take the pain meds before I think I need to, at least for awhile, to keep in control of the pain. It will get better. I will continue to hold you all up in prayer. Hugs!

I just came across this post. Sorry I didn't offer prayers any sooner. It sounds like he is doing much better now.

Please tell him to show extra precaution when stepping off a curb. I ended up with a Jones fracture almost 3 years ago from a fall. My ortho said that one slight slip off a curb could break it again so very easily.

Sounds like he is healing really well. I was in a cast a bit over 6 months.

I just came across this post... I hope your son is doing better. Bone takes time to heal but with a screw I know it will heal great! (My mom did with her arm- she had two in fact)

I can't imagine sending mine off to college...it must be so hard! Let us know how YOU are doing!

Thoughts and prayers being sent!

Nancy :)
