Models: BMW 2004-2007 525i, 530i, 545i, 550i, 650i & 645ci
Number affected: 3,257
Issue: Vehicles have a software error that causes the communication between the Transmission Control Module (TCM) and certain scan tool equipment to be interrupted. This makes it difficult for technicians to properly diagnose potential emissions problems, and may cause some vehicles to fail State inspection/maintainance tests.
Remedy: BMW Service Centers will reprogram the TCM with an improved version of the software.
