View Full Version : Saying goodbye
Cindy

My husband and I have had to make the biggest decision of our marriage-to say goodbye and let go of our sweet cat Patches. She was diagnosed with kidney failure and cancer, and within days she stopped eating, drinking, and she can't walk without falling. We are now spending our last six hours with her-she is my baby, and I don't know where I'm going to get the courage to let her go.

Cindy, I am so sorry to hear about your precious cat. I am posting the Rainbow Bridge for you. Hugs.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Cindy I am so sorry you are loosing your cat.:( Pets tend to come in and be a part of the family just like a child would. When mine are sick I feel so helpless, because they cant tell you what's wrong. You and your hubby will be in my thoughs and prayers. I am so sorry:( :(

I'm so sorry you're going thru this. What a relief it will be for Patches tho, and what a journey to take! I'm sure Patches will be favored in Heaven as the lap cat to the angels since the concept of loving and being loved had been instilled so deeply by you and your husband. I'm so sorry for you pain at this time, and I'll say prayers for Patches to make a pain-free transition and for God to give you comfort and ease you pain as much as He can.

Cindy - I can empathize with you. I had to put down my cat Princey several years back, he had the same symptoms and diagnosis.
I can remember that night like it was yesterday, and it was 7 years ago. I still get teary eyed when something brings his memory to my mind. A slice of cheese or french fries - his favorite treats - strange as it sounds. I always like to remember the funny times when he was with us. Visiting the Rainbow Bridge site helped - seeing all of the memories of others and their pets. It will be difficult, as I understand how much a member of the family our animals are. Don't hesitate to cry and let it all out, and take a few days for yourself and your husband.
We'll all keep you and your family in our prayers.

I am so sorry to hear that you are losing your beloved cat. They become such a part of the family, it is like they are your children. My husband and I had a dog that we loved dearly, and he was hit by a car several years ago. (Before we had children) And to me, he was my baby. It hurts so bad to lose them. I will say a prayer for your precious Patches, as well as you and your husband.

I am so sorry to hear this .you made the right decision. I know how awful this is. We had a Rottweiler that had to be put down a couple of years ago (cancer)
my thoughts are with you. He was the best dog .absolutely wonderful with kids and other animals. A great big mush he thought he was a lap dog at 110 lbs. a really big lap dog.

Oh Cindy, I'm so sorry! {{{{HUGS}}}} to you & your husband. It's a difficult decision to make, I know. We've had to let go of several furbabies over the past 28 years. Fortunately we have been blessed with a vet who has developed an extraordinary bond with each of our pets, he has taught us that knowing when to let go is the utmost level of love and respect for a pet. And he has sent them across that Rainbow Bridge in the gentlest and most tender manner, after first gazing into their eyes and making sure they were calm and as comfy as possible.
Someday, you will see Patches again. She'll be waiting for you, in the arms of the Angels. I wish you all well, I know what you're going through.

Thank you all so much for your kind words and comfort. You don't know how much this all means to me.
Our wonderful vet told us that based on the recent bloodwork that we were doing the right thing. There was no chance of her getting any better. She was up there in years-they estimated 13-14 years old. She had been living with a thyroid condition for the past few years, and coupled with the cancer and kidney failure, it was her time. It doesn't make things easier though.
We still have our other kitty, Penny. I just feel like a part of me is gone.

And my Rose, Roxy, Smokey, Sushi, & Chester. When they're tired & needing a snuggle, I'm sure they're all crawling into my Dad's lap.
Hugs to you all, I know this is a sad time for you.
