Have you or are you planning a vacation for this summer? If you have already had yours tell us where you went and some fun things you got to do on your trip. If you haven't gone yet let us know where your headed and what kind of activities you have planned.

No plans here. My sister will be visiting us in August though, so I am looking forward to that.

Not really a vaction, but we will do some weekend camping.
We love to camp. We belong to a camping resort.
So if you want to "rough it" you can.
We tent it during the summer.
They have pools and planned activities for the kids.

Just got back yesterday from our vacation. We go to Myrtle Beach, SC and we spend a week at Ocean Lakes Campground. We rent a house for the week. The kids love it. They can enjoy the pool, kiddie pool area(has water squirters, things that dump water on you, etc...), mini golf, skateboard area,
a nature center, a recreation center, gameroom. We also like to "cruise" around in the golf cart. They can also ride their bikes. And of course enjoy the beach.
This year we also went to the Dixie Stampede. It was lots of fun. It is expensive, but if you think about how much you spend for a show and then to go out and eat you spend basically the same thing.

Our daughter turns one in a few weeks, so no vacation for us. We aren't ready to try taking her on a vacation yet, and we sure aren't going to leave her with anybody. She's only spent one night away from us. It was Valentine's night and she was with my mother-in-law, but it was just about more than I could handle being away from her that long.

Not taking a family vacation this year. I will be going with our youth group to Florida for a national youth gathering.
Previous years we have gone to Chicago - which is where I am originally from. They have stuff you can do for free if you research it correctly. They also have a visitor pass you can buy to use the "L" and the city bus system. Saves lots of money.
We also went to the Mall of America one year. I have two daughters. It was a little much for my 8 year old but my 11 year old loved it. My 8 year old and husband pooped out and stayed in the hotel room one day when we went back.

We went to Myrtle Beach last year and stayed in a condo at the Myrtle Beach Resort. My son and I had never been there and my husband had not been in about 40 years. I liked the resort and the town, except for the traffic. We did several things besides hanging at the beach like the Ripley's Aquarium, shopping, tons of miniature golf, etc. We also drove to Wilmington, NC one day and went to the battleship, out to Wrightsville Beach to walk on the pier and for dinner and on the haunted Wilmington tour. I highly recommend this tour if you have older kids or teens. Our teenaged son loved it. It is a lot of walking so young kids might want a stroller. All in all, we throughly enjoyed the trip.

This year we took our children and grandchildren on a vacation to Branson, MO. We stayed at the Big Cedar Lodge Resort, just outside of Branson. It was the first time we have all gone since we became grandparents 10 years ago. We had an incredible time. The lodge is awesome if you have ever heard of it. So much to do there. We saw some shows, visited some sites, and did some shopping. There is so much to do in Branson. I highly reccommend it to anyone. Hubby and I an our adult friends will be going back during the Christmas shows this year. If you go there, You must go to the Dixie Stampede Dinner Show. Take some baggies because they serve each person enough for for three people. We ended up coming home with four whole cornish hens and some BBQ pork.

My DH & I (& the dog) will be hauling the travel trailer to Fargo ND in August, to our annual family vacation: the pyrotechnics guild convention. Last year was Wisconsin, next year will be Wyoming I think. Where ever the convention is, that's where we go. Our DD is staying home this year (she's 25, it's ok) - she thinks we need a vacation from her, I guess. It's a week of living/eating/shooting/breathing/sleeping/dreaming fireworks! No boring speeches. Good seminars. Nightly shoots. Plenty of time to shmooze with friends we usually only see at the convention. It's like a week-long family reunion, with people who really enjoy each other (for the most part, anyway), complete with hugs and tears after the last night's display. Woo! It's a blast! ;)

Interesting.....had you ever been there before? What did you do for fun? What was the best meal you had and what restaurant?

The convention has been to Fargo numerous times, it's a really great site. Lots of room. Really nice folks, too. For fun, we spend the week taking seminars on various fireworks-related topics during the day, and then there are the marvelous fireworks every night. Some guild members have spouses/partners/children who aren't into the whole fireworks thing, and the convention & visitors bureau hands out city maps with all kinds of brochures on shopping, dining, and various other activities. We have a lot of favorite restaurants in Fargo, several Asian restaurants, Famous Dave's (ribs, etc), and a Space Aliens Grill & Bar (earthlings welcome). Most of the time, we eat fairly quick meals in our travel trailer so we can get back to the convention activities. My darling hubby & I are very much into the whole fireworks thing!
