How much would you pay for a haircut? The most you would pay?

What is the most you would pay for hi-lights?

Some salons here charge $40 for a haircut and $75 for hi-lights.

I guess I'm a cheapo to. I go to the hair academy and pay $10 add that includes a brow wax.A perm or highlights usually run around $30 and that includes shampoo cut and style.I always make sure to tip the student that cut my hair.

I guess I'm a bigger cheapo then all of you. In the past 25 years, I've only had my hair cut about 5 times. I keep it trimmed myself. I don't highlight my hair but I do color it because I'm solid grey now. I've never paid to have it colored; I do it myself.

I have tried coloring at home and even highlights (i had my mom do it) and my hair turned an orange color, so she had this bright idea to redo it and it of course came out worse, so i HAD to go to the salon and get it fixed and i swore never to do it myself again lol. (or let my mom do it)

I just paid 24 tip and all at Jcpennys to have my hair cut and styled. My husband does my highlight and he's pretty good. I'm trying to convince him to go to beauty school. :D I won't pay over 25. I'm a cheapy. In sneedville it's usually around 15 for a cut and 40 for highlights at a salon.

Saw a couple here that turned that awful red on accident. I learned when I was 16 that when you go with a lighter color on my brown, you'd have to use something with Ash in the title, like Light Ash Brown, Dark Ash Blonde, etc. All the Goldens will go straight out red.

When I was 10 I went to FL to visit my grandma and my aunts left some color out and no one was around, so I colored my hair all by myself!! Boy was I in big trouble!! But I loved it and I have colored my hair sence I was old enought not have to ASK permission!! sometimes I will have it done at a salon, sometimes my sister will do it, but latley I have been doing the spray in stuff and using the hair dryer and using the shampoo to keep it looking good. I am ready for a big change.Every few years, I like a big change!! So I am going to a salon for this one, I don't care what it cost this time around!

When my son Logan was little, we were at a friends coloring each others' hair. We'd let all the kids have mac & cheese and then we got started. Quick as a wink, Logan had swallowed the hair dye! Within minutes, he was chucking up purple macaroni!!! All came up and he was just fine.

I figure if I don't color my hair before I die, the kids can make sure they shave me up good before they close the casket and give it to Locks of Love. If I do dye before I die, then they can probably sell it and have enough to get a little headstone, have dinner on me, or something like that. ;)

I actually donated my hair to the locks of love three years ago. I got her to cut it so short, she had to shave the back of my neck. Today, it's right back to the same length is was when I donated it. I work in a factory with almost all men. To my surprise, two of the guys I work with donated their hair the same year.

I've done it once before. :) When I finally cut it, I didn't get my hair cut that short though!

A guy at my gym recently donated his hair. He went from having long hair, to shaving himself bald! It was a huge shock, LOL!

Not more than $25 including tips. I'm really cheap when it comes to hair cuts, since I have to cut my hair every 2 months or so due to split ends, it becomes a considerable expense.

It normally costs me upwards of $80 for a cut and highlights. The girl I go to really isn't that expensive, but she has to charge me more because my hair is so thick. It's such a pain getting my hair highlighted. She uses the cap and pulls my hair through the holes...it hurts like heck because she has to pull more hair through than she normally would for other people. It always looks good when it's done though. A perm for me is twice the normal cost because she has to use 2 bottles of the solution to be able to cover my whole head.

She uses it for my hair just to be able to manage all my hair better and get a better result. We've done it with other methods and it doesn't come out nearly as well as the cap...sucks for me but it's worth it to look good.

ya sometimes they use the cap on me just cause i have SO much hair and when its long she cant foil it to well. thats why i like short hair, its much easier to get my hair done!

There were times when I paid over $100 for highlights and cut - but not these days. I've gone to our local beauty school and have been very happy with the results on foil highlights - $30 and a cut's about $10 more for my long hair. A friend that went to beauty school has moved back to town, so I'm lucky enough to have her come over to my house and cut and highlight for $30.
I've always wanted to donate to locks of love, but can't anytime soon because they don't accept bleached or color treated hair I think. One day I'll accept my brown hair and grow it out without color for them!!

I also go to Aveda Brown Institute!! I love it and YES it is way worth the price!

I received a free hair cut about 8 weeks ago because I donated 15 inches of my all natural hair to Wigs For Kids! I was crying so bad because I was thinking of the child who would receive my hair. Everybody at Aveda was teary eyed as well and they took pictures of me before and after because I had made such a drastic change.

I got a facial from there as well about a month ago and it was AWESOME!! They scrubbed my feet and even massaged me!! I felt so guilty doing something for myself.:o

Anyways kinda off subject but I think Aveda is the cheapest for the services you receive.:)

Oh and I always smell like a tree when I leave there!!

I wanted to go to cosmotology school just so that I could do my hair and my friends, but I always take on too much so I figured I shouldn't. I get my hair done by my friend, but we couldn't get the black out (we bleached it for 3 hours and still barely anything!) so I am going back to my other friend who actually does it in a salon. She has something that can get it out, thank god. She charges $25 for a cut and style and then coloring and highlights start at $65. That isn't too bad for how good she does.

Here is what my husband said about how you should tip your hairstylist:

He said not to think of it like you would in terms of tipping a server or someone like that because getting your hair done is much more of a personal thing...and also that there is no scale per say on how to tip your hairstylist...
he gets a bit wordy so i will try and give you the short version :p

basically, consider your overall experience...how many times has this person done your hair or have you been to this particular salon...did they do a good job and what you wanted...were they friendly, outgoing...and did they make you feel comfortable while you were there...he said to put all of this together and remember why you get your hair done in the first place...you want to look good and looking good helps us to feel good about ourselves...this person is helping you do that...and that's what makes it so personal...

keeping that in mind he says...tip what you feel is reasonable for the experience and don't base it on what you are already paying for the cut and/or color...
in other words, if you pay $10 for the haircut and think that tipping $5 is too much cause it's half...throw that logic out of your mind and consider the experience and when you really think about it $5 is really not too much to tip...

i guess he really didn't have any clear guideline per say...he said it really is just what you think after you consider these things...and here's a few more things he said that hairstylists think but wouldn't tell you about tipping:

-tipping less than $5 is just plain being cheap
-if you have a coupon for a free haircut and you do not tip because you didn't pay for the cut, the stylist will just plain never want you in their chair again and they will tell everyone about you
-when you tip your stylist well, they will do favors for you like stay late or come in on a day they're not supposed to work to do your hair, things like that

hope this helps a bit...:D

Please don't fool around with color by friends who know nothing about the professtion PLEASE I've seen alot of disasters in my time Leave it up to the professtionals . Also I read you want to go to school well I also taught in this professtion and believe me if you don't have it in you don't do it I told my Children that are now Adults. She is really good at what she does, I just don't have time to wait for her to make time to do it when I am paying her really well. Plus my other friend that does it (which she works in a really nice salon) has some stuff to take any color out because she has clients that do really crazy hair coloring and change it often.

Gals, I need some suggestions pretty please! I am going to the salon on Saturday to get "spruced" up before I leave for Acapulco. I have never dyed or highlighted my hair before.. I have naturally light brown hair and was wondering what color/colors of highlights would look good in my hair? Blonde? I don't have a clue!:o

Yeah I am light brown/blonde?? Not really sure what I am? Dirty blonde? When I lived in Florida my hair was a lot lighter because of me being in the sun everyday!

Weave? Like extensions?

You could do blonde or if you like red do a brownish red color. You can always do blonde highlights and brownish red low lights. If you have a good hair stylish then she can probably tell you a little better since I don't know the exact color of your hair. Hope this helps!

You are most welcome! I have blondish/dirty blonde hair naturally myself... it gets pretty dark in the winter almost a light brown, but I have had blonde and caramel highlights both, and they both looked great! So it's just really your prefrence. Caramel is more of a honey color... and the blonde is a little more white. :)

Hey, maybe I am wrong, lol wouldn't be the first time, lol, what makes it a weave using foil is that the hair is not just parted in a line, it is taking a line of hair and going in and out with the comb end and taking strands of hair instead of a line of hair. I am sure a weave is the same a what you call a foil? Is that how they do foil or do they just take a line of hair and color it? skip a line and then color the next line?
Here is an interesting site I found too.

The lady who usually does my hair doesnt charge much. with the tip and all I pay about $20 for a cut, style and shampoo.

Someone mentioned that Porcuts took walk ins and they are not too bad on price... I needa haircut TODAY.
has anyone heard any bad things. I know each and everyone are going to be different.... but any suggestions?
All the other places here charge an arm and a leg for a cut

My hair is half way down my back as of now. I have been growing it out to donate to "Locks of love" I am absolutely bored to death with my hair because I cannot color it due to the chemicals, and I can't do any kind of drastic cut to it. Does anyone have any suggestions on something I might be able to do to give it a little spice? Maybe a certain cut style or anything? A small cut would be okay but like I said it cannot be drastic. Is there any cute styles out for long hair? I am just dying to do something different with it!

The bangs swept to the side might be cute! However the layers is a problem because the shortest layer has to be 10 inches long. That might take me forever!
